The Exchange: Speaker of the House Paul Ryan

Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan is playing the role of the adult in the room while the Republican presidential candidates one-up each other with increasingly outrageous rhetoric. The new house speaker chided Donald Trump's proposed ban on Muslims entering the country, saying it's "not what this party stands for." With Ryan potentially playing a leading role should the party wind up in a brokered convention next year, we went back into the archives to our chat with him, in which we discussed his views on crony capitalism, taxes and entitlements. The Exchange: Joe Stiglitz

The Nobel Prize-winning economist and author of a new book - "Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy" - believes both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are “right on” when it comes to the issue of income inequality. Democratic front-runner Clinton also gets kudos from Stiglitz for tackling short-term capitalism. Maybe no surprise there – the former White House economic advisor's new book is thought to be a blueprint for Clinton's economic plan. The Exchange: Ben Bernanke

As he tells Rob Cox, and outlines in his new book “The Courage to Act,” the Fed was given little help by a dysfunctional Congress, in reviving the U.S. economy. In the absence of fiscal policy, the Fed had to do all the heavy lifting. As Bernanke tells Rob, it’s one reason Bernanke, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, has dropped his affiliation with the Republican Party. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
