Glyphosate, Cancer and her book 'The Monsanto Papers' With Carey Gillam
Carey is a veteran journalist, researcher, and writer with more than twenty-five years of experience in the news industry covering corporate America. Her most recent book, The Monsanto Papers: Deadly Secrets, Corporate Corruption, and One Man’s Search for Justice (Publication Date: March 2, 2021) tells the inside story of Lee Johnson’s landmark lawsuit against Monsanto after a workplace accident left Lee doused in Monsanto’s herbicide and facing a deadly cancer. Lee was the first to take Monsanto to trial, drawing attention from around the world as his case became one of the most dramatic legal battles in courthouse history. Her 2017 book about pesticide dangers, Whitewash: The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer and the Corruption of Science, won the 2018 Rachel Carson Book Award from the Society of Environmental Journalists and has become a part of the curriculum in several university environmental health programs. As a former senior correspondent for Reuters’ international news service, Gillam specializes in finding the story behind the spin—uncovering both the risks and rewards of the evolving new age of agriculture. Gillam’s areas of experience include biotech crop technology, agrichemicals and pesticide product development, and the environmental impacts of American food production. Gillam’s reporting and writing have led her to become recognized as an international expert on corporate control of agriculture and the health and environmental impacts of a pesticide-dependent food system. She was asked to testify before the European Parliament in 2017 about her findings and was an invited speaker at the World Forum for Democracy in Strasbourg, France, in 2019. She also has been a featured speaker at events throughout North America, Australia, The Netherlands, Brussels, and France. Gillam left Reuters in late 2015, becoming a research director for the non-profit organization U.S. Right to Know, an investigative group focused on exposing corporate wrongdoing and government failures that threaten the integrity of our food system, our environment, and our health. She also writes for The Guardian. Gillam resides in Overland Park, Kansas, with her husband and three children. Why Organic Wine Is Better for You with Paula Paradise
In this podcast, we talk with Paula Paradise, from Paradise Wines in Buffalo, NY. We chat about sustainable, organic, and biodynamic wines and how they are healthy for you as well as delicious and affordable. Paula began her career as a chef working in kitchens around the country, putting herself through college as a creative writing and philosophy major. She earned her M.A.H. at the University of Buffalo. Over the years, Paula worked for some of the best chefs in Buffalo as a pastry chef. When she had the opportunity to meet Burt Notarius, owner of a very large wine shop in Buffalo, he convinced her to segue her love of making food to the art of wine. She worked for Burt for 12 years as a copywriter for their website, newsletter, and in-store promotions. She then became the Director of Wine Education, setting up the model for their classes and guest speakers. The same year that Premier moved to the suburbs of Western, New York, Paula was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and underwent surgery that kept her home for almost 2 months. During that time she decided that she wanted to have a wine shop that focused on organically grown grapes and support farmers who were working to put nutrients back into the land instead of stripping them away with chemicals. On March 3rd, 2015, coincidentally Paula's last day of radiation treatment, she was able to realize that dream with the help of her best friend Lauren Kostek, who was able to buy and renovate the ideal building for their dream wine shop. They have now been open for almost 6 years, focusing on wines made from sustainable, organic, and biodynamic farmed grapes. How Candles can Pollute your Home and be Harmful to Your Health
Candles can be toxic. Many are made with paraffin wax, which is a petroleum by-product and can release carcinogenic soot when burned. Soot can cause respiratory problems and will aggravate the conditions of those who already have asthma, lung, or heart problems. Many are also scented with synthetic oils which can irritate your lungs and could cause other health problems. Some candles have lead in their wicks which can be even more toxic. Exposure to high amounts of lead has been linked to hormone disruption, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, and numerous health problems. In this podcast, we chat with Katie Roering, owner of Fontana Candle Company. We discuss the ingredients in traditional candles that can be harmful to your health and your indoor air quality. Katie never set out to own a candle company. She is an entrepreneur at heart and was running her dream dog training and grooming center when she got sick. So sick, that she had to sell her shares of the company. She intended to take a year off from work to heal but ended up needing 3 years to regain her health from what she discovered to be mold toxicity. Health and wellness became an important pillar of her life. Candles entered the picture when she was gifted with a conventional candle for Christmas and burning the candle made both her and her husband Eric feel sick. That led them into researching candles and making their own as a hobby. That was when Fontana Candle Co. was born. https://www.facebook.com/FontanaCandleCompany https://www.instagram.com/fontanacandlecompany/ www.fontanacandlecompany.com Follow the Green Living Gurus: Website and blog www.thegreenlivinggurus.com Facebook Healthy Living Group Facebook Green Living Gurus Page Instagram YouTube Services For further info contact: Therese Forton-Barnes email: Greenlivinggurus@gmail.com Cell 716-868-8868
