But it takes self-brain surgery. This episode is about worldview, self-editing, and how to change your mind. Faithfully Different, with Natasha Crain
It’s Self-Brain Surgery Saturday!Today’s guest is author and acclaimed podcast host, Natasha Crain. Natasha Crain is a national speaker, author of four books, blogger, and podcaster who is passionate about equipping Christians to think more clearly about holding to a biblical worldview in the midst of an increasingly challenging secular culture. She has been featured on radio and TV shows across the U.S. and Canada, and lives in southern California with her husband and three children. She writes at natashacrain.com.Book introduction (from Amazon.com):Welcome to your place in a worldview minority. In an increasingly secular society, those who have a biblical worldview are now a shrinking minority. As mainstream culture grows more hostile toward the Bible’s truths and those who embrace them, you’ll face mounting pressures — from family, friends, media, academia, and government — to change and even abandon your beliefs. But these challenges also create abundant opportunities to stand strong for Christ and shine light to those hurt by the darkness of our day.In Faithfully Different, author and apologist Natasha Crain shares how you can live out your faith with conviction, discernment, and courage. You’ll be equipped to:* Identify and respond to today’s most significant worldview pressures, such as cancel culture, secular social justice, progressive Christianity, deconstruction, virtue signaling, and more.* Engage effectively with a world that ridicules biblical truths.* Defend your faith from misguided influences and live as a bold witness for the Lord.As the standards of our day mutate and devolve, Faithfully Different will give you the insight and encouragement you need to believe, think, and live biblically no matter what you face in these turbulent times.Check out the important Unchaken conference, hosted by Natasha Crain, Alisa Childers, and Frank Turek.Natasha’s podcast is powerful, and a great way to learn more about the Biblical worldview.Pre-order my new book, Hope is the First Dose by clicking the button below!Self-Brain Surgery with Dr. Lee Warren is a reader-supporter publication and podcast that gives you the tools to change your mind and change your life through the combined power of neuroscience and faith. Mind Change March 2023
It's Mind Change March!Hey, it’s almost March 1. We’re going to call it “Mind Change March,” and we’re going to make sure that every single day in this month, we’re going to press deeper into changing the things we need to change to get where we want to be in our lives. No more wasted time. No more regrets. 31 days from now we’ll be smarter, richer, wiser, fitter, closer to God and others, and we will be much better self-brain surgeons.I have a question for you: are you tired? I don’t mean sleepy. I mean, you’re looking around on social media and you see that everyone else seems to have it all together, but you can’t get a job or find your keys or the rent is due or your relationship is on the rocks. Or instead of having two of the best months ever to start 2021, you not only didn’t keep your resolutions, but you can’t even remember them. And you’re just so tired of it all? Like instead of Jump Start January and Fabulous February, you had “Just like last January,” and “Failed Again February?”Well, you’re not alone. I’m hearing a lot from people all over the place who are just so tired of being stuck and they don’t know how to change it.Guess what friend? It’s going to be okay. It’s mind change March, friend. And we’re going to start today.Scriptures from my friend Clay (you need to get you some promises too, friend!):Hebrews 6:18God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged.Psalm 34:18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.Psalm 73:23-2623 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you.26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.Lamentations 3:22-2622 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”25 The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;26 it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.Proverbs 3:5-65 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Isaiah 41:10So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. You can now pre-order my new book, Hope is the First Dose: A Treatment Plan for Recovering from Trauma, Tragedy, and Other Massive Things!Other Scriptures Mentioned:Deuteronomy 6:1-9These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.Micah 6:88 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. Reconstructed, with Philip Yancey (Self-Brain Surgery Saturday)
Philip Yancey has been a great friend and mentor for me for years. His books have helped millions of us search out the path to faith and hope again after life brings us pain. He’s one of the first people who gets a call when something terrible happens- Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Columbine- because he helps people honestly answer the questions such tragedies provoke, and to find hope again. Philip was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, a neurodegenerative disorder that causes a variety of issues with postural control, balance, steadiness and speed of movement, tremor, and other issues. And all those years of helping others look into their troubles and hold onto faith have prepared him for his own. This talk covers a lot of ground, from deconstruction to chronic illness, evil and suffering, church abuse, to finding strength in the community of the church. It’s inspiring, encouraging, and it will help you hold on, no matter what is happening in your life. Be sure to check out drleewarren.substack.com for more!My four all-time favorite Philip Yancey books:* Where the Light Fell: A Memoir is Philip’s intensely personal story of how he rebuilt his faith from the ashes of years of church abuse and the discovery of a family secret that devastated him. Incredible. I highly recommend the audiobook!* Where is God When it Hurts?* What’s So Amazing About Grace?* The Jesus I Never KnewYou can now pre-order my new book, Hope is the First Dose: A Treatment Plan for Recovering from Trauma, Tragedy, and Other Massive Things!Self-Brain Surgery with Dr. Lee Warren is a reader-supported publication.
