National Park After Dark
Audioboom Studios
Hosted by two friends who share a passion for the wilderness and a fascination with what can go wrong there, each week hosts Danielle and Cassie explore the darker side of our National Parks and explore these treasured places in a whole new way - because behind the iconic arches and towering trees lie layered histories, grisly encounters, extraordinary stories of survival, tragic ends and so much more. But it isn’t always chills and thrills. By sharing inspiring tales and their desire for protecting our planet’s wild places, they hope the show will inspire listeners to lace up their own hiking boots and take a walk into the wild to create meaningful adventures of their own.

127: Bruno of Borneo. Gunung Mulu National Park. Part 1.
Home is where the heart is. This phrase that is scrawled across on wooden sign boards and hung in countless houses across the world may be cliche, but it’s true. Bruno Manser may have been born in Switzerland, but his heart was in Borneo. A place where he fell in love with the jungle and the people in it. It was paradise, but it was in peril. The home Bruno found was in serious danger. A home he was willing to fight for the death to protect.

123: A Strand in the Web. Torngat Mountains National Park.
“Whatever happens to the beasts also happens to man. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the children of the earth.” Those words spoken by Chief Seattle centuries ago merely echoed what his people knew for a time immemorable, and what modern science is now proving – we are not separate from the environment, we are of it. Our actions, or inactions, have long lasting ripple effects on everything around us, and while we may not see the results in our lifetimes, they are becoming apparent in places like the Arctic, where the consequences of our actions are rearing their heads in a fight for survival.

120: End of Watch. Mount Rainier National Park.
*Please note, this episode includes descriptions of domestic violence and an active shooting*
I wish I had your job! If you’ve ever heard that and cringed – chances are people have a skewed idea of what you actually do. No one knows this to be more true that NPS LE Rangers. Yes, they are employed in some of the most beautiful places on Earth - but they also hold some of the most dangerous jobs in the world, and are often not recognized for it. When an active shooter enters Mount Rainier National Park on New Years day 2012, Margaret Anderson would pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep the people and the place she loved the most, safe.
