Beijing has suspended the export of all rare-earth elements as the trade war with the United States intensifies. The demand for rare earth elements, or metals, is growing as the world uses more clean energy sources and more higher-end microchips for the next generation of processors. Today is officially Tax Day, and parts of the tax code have changed significantly over the years. One significant change occurred during President Donald Trump's first term with the implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Currently, Republicans hold a supermajority, and it's time to renew many of the cuts established in 2017 that are set to expire soon. The Trump administration is facing legal challenges in efforts to deport pro-Hamas and anti-Semitic protestors that have caused chaos, including violence, on college campuses around the country. A federal judge ruled on one such case last week, marking a victory for the administration, saying the government had reached their burden of deportation in the case of Mahmoud Khalil. The judge said that Khalil's involvement in anti-Semitic protests, disruptive activities on campus, and receiving citations for unlawful conduct during the protests at Columbia University as grounds for removal. Eligible American taxpayers who did not claim the 'Recovery Rebate Credit' on their 2021 tax returns can receive up to a $1,400 stimulus check per individual on the return. The IRS announced in December they would be issuing the stimulus checks after finding out that so many eligible taxpayers did not claim it.
