Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Normandy Beach in France. Over 150,000 members of the allied forces led by General Dwight D. Republicans Pan President's Executive Order As "Smoke & Mirrors"
President Biden signed an executive order on Tuesday that aims to limit the number of illegal migrants crossing the border. The executive action would restrict migrants from seeking asylum when the average number of encounters exceeds 2,500, which is a number that has been regularly exceeded at the border in recent months. Republican lawmakers criticized the President, saying that he had the power to do this throughout his entire presidency but only chose to do so near the end of his term, coinciding with a sharp drop in the polls. Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-TX-19) joins the Rundown to share his reaction to the executive order, how it could impact his district in Texas, and what needs to change to truly secure the border.Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill banning social media for kids under fourteen in March, and now New York State is looking to enact similar legislation. Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that New York will be the first state to specifically target social media algorithms, restricting how users under 18 will see posts in their social media feeds. Dr. Fauci Goes to Washington
On Monday, Dr. Anthony Fauci testified before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. The former top infectious disease official faced heavy criticism for his handling of the pandemic response, with lawmakers’ questions focusing on the lack of scientific reasoning behind six feet of social distancing and if the suppression of the lab leak theory came from a federal level. Former Director of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Robert Redfield, joins the Rundown to share his thoughts on the panel testimony, the evidence behind the origins of COVID-19, and Dr. Fauci's statements on gain of function research.Driving into the country's largest city just got more expensive. Starting at the end of the month, those entering New York City below 60th Street will now be subjected to congestion pricing and pay at least $15 to drive in lower Manhattan during peak hours. The goal is to relieve congestion in the city daily by reducing traffic by 120,000 vehicles. Those with no other option than to drive into NYC are furious with the state's decision, with eight lawsuits pending in New York and New Jersey.
