He describes the southern USA practice of snake handling and drinking poisonous substances as one such example. Paul Kalas is adjunct professor of astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley. He is known for his discoveries of debris disks around stars. Paul led a team of scientists to obtain the first visible-light images of an extrasolar planet. He has been recording his own dreams since his teenage years. He is the author of The Oneironauts: Using Dreams to Engineer Our Future. Here he describes dreams he had that, after careful examination, he believes were precognitive in nature. He explains the process by which he came to rule out alternative explanations. One of these dreams, in particular, appears to have contained detailed information regarding one of his major astronomical discoveries. He suggests that the study of precognitive dreams could be accelerated through application of sophisticated computer analysis. Christine Simmonds-Moore, PhD, is on the faculty of the psychology department at the University of West Georgia. She has been active in the field of parapsychology for many years. She is coauthor of Anomalistic Psychology. She is also editor of the book, Exceptional Experience and Health: Essays on Mind, Body and Human Potential. Here she presents a number of psychological parameters that correlate positively with both laboratory studies and subjective reports of paranormal and psi experiences. She describes several varieties of synesthesia and explains how this is potentially related to psi. She discusses schizotypy, a collection of personality traits, that are sometimes viewed as pathological and sometimes viewed positively as fostering creativity. Jeffrey Mishlove reports on research conducted by Petter Johnstad, from the University of Bergen, Norway, who conducted interviews with individuals who reported experiencing telepathic states while under the influence of psychedelic substances. Most of these individuals were not able to reproduce the experience at will. Several experienced psychological discomfort. However, some found it to be both replicable and enjoyable.
