Charles Upton’s first books of poetry were published in 1968 and 1969 by Lawrence Ferlinghetti of City Light Books in San Francisco. He was then considered the youngest member of the “beat generation” as he was still in high school. He has subsequently written many books associated with the traditionalist school of spirituality including The Science of the Greater Jihad, System of the Antichrist, Vectors of the Counter-Initiation, Folk Metaphysics, Alien Disclosure Deception: The Metaphysics of Social Engineering, and Day and Night on the Sufi Path. These examples illustrate his sense of how a soul might progress in the supersensible realm. He also points out that the premier metaphysician of the traditionalist movement, René Guénon, did not accept reincarnation as traditionally taught. Instead he argues that memories can persist and be transferred to individuals, a process referred to as metempsychosis. He discusses differences between traditionalist and “new age” perspectives. William Peters, M.Ed., MFT, is a licensed psychotherapist at the Family Therapy Institute in Santa Barbara, specializing in end-of-life counseling as a means toward psycho-spiritual evolution. The light seems to be a destination in the NDE. There are more presentations of light in the SDE. The light acts as a portal or bridge that come down as cylinders. Light beings may come out of the light to greet the dying. The SDE experiencer may accompany the dying up cascades of light or observe their loved one ascend into the light. He shares ways to have a SDE with a loved one or a pet. Reinerio Hernandez, JD, MCP, is currently the Director of the Consciousness and Contact Research Institute (CCRI). He is editor of several anthologies including Beyond UFOs, and the first two volumes of A Greater Reality. William Bengston, PhD, has recently completed twelve years as president of the Society for Scientific Exploration. John Lockley is one of the first white men, in recent history, to become a fully initiated sangoma in the Xhosa lineage of South Africa. He is author of Leopard Warrior: A Journey into the African Teachings of Ancestry, Instinct, and Dreams. John was born, into a divided Apartheid South Africa, with the mark of the sangoma on his face – a band of white birth skin around the eyes. He was serving in the South African army as a medic (during the war with Angola in the 1980s) when he had a strong, prophetic dream calling him to train as a Xhosa sangoma. He suffered from the thwasa, a severe period of ill-health that is inherent in all ancient shamanic cultures, which can only be cured through apprenticeship to a shamanic teacher. Because of the restrictions of Apartheid (which ended in 1994) it would take John seven years to find a Xhosa teacher. He returned to post-apartheid South Africa and completed a 10 year apprenticeship with a medicine woman from the Xhosa Tribe. His website is johnlockley.com. The name he was given, Ucingolwendamba, means messenger or connector between people and cultures. Neuroscience research shows that attachment to these thoughts can cause physical and emotional pain. The way toward love is by becoming aware of cognitive distortions, separating from thoughts with mindfulness, non-attachment to the ego, compassion, and nurturing joy. Matthew McKay, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist, professor of psychology at the Wright Institute, co-founder of Haight Ashbury Psychological Services, founder of the Berkeley CBT Clinic, and co-founder of the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic, which serves low-income clients. He has authored and co-authored more than 40 books, including The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, Seeking Jordan: How I Learned the Truth about Death and the Invisible Universe, The Luminous Landscape of the Afterlife: Jordan’s Message to the Living on What to Expect After Death, and Love in the Time of Impermanence. Through messages from his son, Jordan, he shares that the love between all souls continues in the afterlife. Matthew states that love is what connects everything. The purpose of life is to learn how to love in the face of pain. While much of what we experience in life is impermanent, the soul, consciousness, and love continue. He offers ways to keep and hold onto love in our eternally changing environment.
