All opinions expressed here are those of the individual and do not necessarily reflect those of the Krulak Center, Marine Corps University, the United States Marine Corps, or any other agency of the U.S. Government. “Please @ Me, #Sergeant: Social Media and Military Professional Development”

Back in March, the Army Leader Exchange decided to run its own #MarchMadness tournament highlighting military media content creators, and after many intense rounds of voting, the finalists, who all joined the #BruteCast on this panel, stood poised to claim the title of Content Creator Champion. Now, while few us needed an excuse to build yet another playoff bracket during March, this contest also shined a light on just how different military leaders and curators of military professional development content were using #socialmedia platforms to share useful educational knowledge with a wider community. So we were very excited to have the finalists join us to share their perspectives on the uses of social media as a knowledge base, engagement tool, and professional development resource for those in uniform looking to prepare themselves and their subordinates for the challenges of future warfare. Our panel guests were: Sasha Maggio, Nikki Dean, Dr. Elena Wicker, and LtCol Travis Hord, #USMC. Enjoyed this episode? Think there's room for improvement? SSA Joseph Garbato, “The Law Enforcement Instrument of National Power”

U.S. policymakers and strategists have long understood there are many more instruments involved in national security policy development and implementation than the DIME model (Diplomacy - Information - Military - Economic). Law Enforcement, often misunderstood, if not forgotten, is one of these instruments. Yet it possesses a powerful combination of hard and soft power, complements all other Instruments of National Power, and can be wielded at all levels – political - strategic, operational, and tactical. In this discussion, Marine Corps University's FBI Chair Supervisory Special Agent Joseph F. Garbato addresses existing generalizations and misconceptions, defines the instrument, and underscores its utility. Enjoyed this episode? Think there's room for improvement? Maj Steven Gore & Capt Brian Atkinson, “Naval Systems Integration, JADC2, and Force Design 2030”

This #BruteCast continues our look at one of the themes we’ve discussed a lot over the last several months, and that’s the many different ways entities around the Marine Corps are contributing to the Fleet-wide changes underway with Force Design 2030. We welcomed two guests from the Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity (MCTSSA), Major Steve Gore and Capt Brian Atkinson, to tell us more about what MCTSSA does, their specific roles in naval systems integration and JADC2, and how this all feeds into Force Design 2030. Capt Atkinson mentioned the Project Convergence-22 exercise; learn more about it here: https://www.army.mil/article/260345/project_convergence_2022_to_demonstrate_futuristic_joint_multinational_warfighting_technologies Learn more about MCTSSA here: https://www.marcorsyscom.marines.mil/MCTSSA/ Follow MCTSSA on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/MCTSSA/ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/MCTSSAinfo LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/u-s-marine-corps-tactical-systems-support-activity/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mctssa/ YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UC97h3xddTpI38NmlW3pOlXQ Enjoyed this episode? Skip Crawley, “Operation Downfall: The Invasion of Japan”

1 November, 1945, was supposed to be "X-Day" - the beginning of the largest amphibious operation in history, landing Allied forces on the Japanese island of Kyushu. This would mark the start of Operation Downfall, the invasion of Japan's home islands, which Allied leaders expected would be necessary to end World War II. Ultimately, Operation Downfall was cancelled after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the entry of the Soviet Union into the war against Japan. Yet Downfall was well into the planning stages when World War II ended, and estimates of the invasion's possible outcomes expected casualty levels in the millions for all sides. #BruteCast alumnus Skip Crawley takes us back through the preparations and anticipated execution of the invasion that never happened. Down the Rabbit Hole on the Russia-Ukraine War #37 – ISIS With Snow, And An Intel Tale Full of Discord and Dismay

Well, this is what we get for waiting too long between episodes - Dr. Yuval Weber, #TeamKrulak's #Russia subject matter expert, had a lot of ground to cover today. BGen Valerie Jackson, USMC, “Inside the WEZ: Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa”

Strategic competition requires persistent presence and engagement with partners and allies around the globe. And while competition with China in the INDOPACOM region garners regular attention, the US AFRICOM area of responsibility has become increasingly critical to effectively countering the pacing threat. Under AFRICOM, the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) conducts operations to enhance partner nation capacity, promote regional stability, dissuade conflict, and protect U.S. and partner interests. BGen Valerie Jackson, USMC, deputy commanding general of CJTF-HOA and director of the Krulak Center, joined us live from Camp Lemonnier to discuss the valuable work the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines of CJTF-HOA are doing in the region to support African partners and allies, and strengthen the strategic influence of the United States against global competitors.
