Watchmen, Syria Head Fake, Al Baghdadi Bloodlust

Abby and Robbie dispel some of the hype around the Joker movie and give a review of the politically charged Watchmen series. Mike Prysner from Eyes Left joins the show to go over the scandal in the latest Call of Duty depicting the "Highway of Death" as a Russian war crime. They then go over the timeline of Trump's "troop withdrawal" from Syria, which was really just a rerouting of forces to the perpetual occupation of Iraq while keeping hundreds stationed to protect the oil fields in Syria. The episode closes out talking about the death of ISIS leader Al Baghdadi and the sickening ritualistic bloodlust surrounding these targeted assassinations. *Warning Watchmen (comic book & movie) Spoilers 10:00-30:00* Thanks for listening! American Exceptionalism & American Innocence w/ Danny Haiphong

"Did the U.S. really “save the world” in World War II? Should black athletes stop protesting and show more gratitude for what America has done for them? Are wars fought to spread freedom and democracy? Or is this all fake news? American Exceptionalism and American Innocence examines the stories we’re told that lead us to think that the U.S. is a force for good in the world, regardless of slavery, the genocide of indigenous people, and the more than a century’s worth of imperialist war that the U.S. has wrought on the planet." The Disney Blob, George Lucas Betrayal & the Staying Power of Lovecraft w/ Leslie Lee III

While Abby is off touring the country to screen her new film 'Gaza Fights for Freedom' Robbie holds down the fort and brings on special guest Leslie Lee III from the Struggle Session podcast to have a wide ranging discussion on Disney's 'woke points', the sagging Marvel Cinematic Universe and their betrayal of Star Wars creator George Lucas (who called Disney 'white slavers'). The last third of the discussion turns to the idea of public domain fiction that can't be 'bought' by a corporation and why Leslie thinks horror writer H.P. Lovecraft still has so much staying power today. Leslie also addresses Lovecraft's 'virulent' racist views but explains how those are not necessarily central to his actual horror writings. Tasmanian Alkaloids and the Johnson & Johnson Opium Poppy Monopoly w/ Peter Andrey Smith

Robbie Martin interviews Peter Andrey Smith about his trip to Tasmania investigating opium poppy farmers who supply the licit aka legal pharmaceutical opioid market in the United States. This DEA sanctioned legal opium market is largely dominated by Johnson & Johnson, using a subsidiary company Tasmanian Alkaloids, that produces large quantities of opium poppies (over 80% of the market) potent in thebane, an important ingredient for the manufacturing of Oxycontin. Johnson & Johnson was recently ordered to pay over $500,000,000 in fines by a judge in an unprecedented ruling for its role in contributing to the opioid epidemic. Peter Andrey Smith's article 'How an Island of the Antipodes Became the World's Largest Supplier of Licit Opioids' can be read here: http://bit.ly/2lv0G53 Thanks for listening!
