In this episode, you will hear Morgan first talk about psychokinesis, also called telekinesis. Psychokinesis in parapsychology, the action of mind on matter, in which objects are supposedly caused to move or change as a result of mental concentration upon them. The physical nature of psychokinetic effects contrasts with the cognitive quality of extrasensory perception (ESP), the other major grouping of parapsychological phenomena. In this episode, we learn of the inspirational story of the father of parapsychology J.B. (Joseph Banks) Rhine. Rhine rejected faith early on in favour of a hard scientific education obtaining a Ph.D. in botany. He was eventually drawn to the paranormal, after learning of a number of cases of what he perceived as legitimate “psychic occurrences”. His intuition began to nag at him. Perhaps his earlier close-minded thinking was off base. In the second part of the episode, Morgan and Mike speak with Mark Boccuzzi of the Windbridge Institute and Windbridge Research Center. Morgan takes a dive into the topic of exorcism and how it relates to psychology. Later in the show, Mike and Morgan speak with Andrea Perron, eldest daughter of five to Carolyn and Roger. Their story was made famous by the well-known 2013 horror film, The Conjuring. The Perrons though, don’t feel the movie got it right. Eileen J. Garrett is considered by many as one of the most active mediums of the twentieth century and known for her objective approach to psi phenomena. Naturally sensitive from a young age to things psychic, as an adult Eileen began to formally hone her skills under the direction of James Hewat McKenzie at the British College of Psychic Science in the 1920s. “I have a gift, a capacity — a delusion, if you will — called ‘psychic,’” Mrs. Garrett wrote in her book of personal memoirs, Adventures in the Supernormal (1943). “I have been called many things, from a charlatan to a miracle woman. I am, at least, neither of these.” First Morgan tells Eileen’s life story, highlighting some of the famous medium’s involvement in some well-known experiments in psychical research with the aim to gain a better understanding of supernormal perception. She is known for her co-founding of, and tireless work within, The Parapsychology Foundation.Later Morgan and Mike interview Eileen Garrett’s granddaughter, Lisette Coly, who has served as Vice President of the Parapsychology Foundation since 1978, charged with maintaining the foundation’s valuable library which is struggling to stay afloat in these difficult times. In this episode Supernatural Circumstances we take a look at the possible involvement of the Yeti in one of the most enduring mysteries of modern times, the Incident at Dyatalov Pass and whether Yeti might have been involved. Mike covered this story in Chapter 13 of the Perpetual Puzzles section of his bestselling book, Murder, Madness and Mayhem, available at fine booksellers now. The story began in 1959, in the Northern Ural Mountains on Kholat Syakhl, which translated from the local Mansi dialect means "Dead Mountain". A group of nine experienced hikers, two women and eight men, on a skiing expedition from the Ural Polytechnic Institute in Yekaterinburg, Russia, died on the mountain that February under mysterious circumstances. The site was later named Dyatlov Pass in memory of the group’s leader, 23-year-old Igor Alekseyevich Dyatlov. There are many theories about what happened - some say avalanche, some say something more sinister occurred.
