I Love My Kid, But...
This is a safe place for parents to get away from it all. It’s a cliche that having kids is both the most rewarding and the hardest thing you’ll ever do. And it never ends: just when you’ve figured out how a newborn works, the kid becomes a toddler, then a tween, a teenager and beyond. And kids don’t come with an instruction manual or an off switch. Sure, you love your kids, best thing that ever happened to you blah blah blah, BUT…Welcome to I Love My Kid, But… a weekly escape where comedians Megan Gailey, Kurt Braunohler, Chris Garcia and guests unload about the joys and challenges of being a parent, all the hell their kids put them through, and how they might reclaim some of the glory of their pre-parenting life. You might learn a few things about how to be a better parent along the way, but it’s more important that you get to laugh and enjoy three very funny people vent about parenthood with other moms and dads who “get it.” No child psychologists here, no educators, or noted experts… just three comedians embracing all the L’s they take on a daily basis and celebrating all the small victories that make it all worth it. And if one of them lets slip that they might’ve sent their kid to school without lunch because they stayed out the night before with their college friends WAY too late, that’s ok too. No judgment here.Listen to I Love My Kid, But... on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. Binge all episodes ad-free on Wondery+. “Hand Over the Pedialyte Kid” with Andy Richter | 10
This week, comedian and legendary late-night sidekick, Andy Richter, joins Megan, Chris, and Kurt. They love their kids…..BUT, there are no days off with kids, even if you had 2 or 18 drinks the night before. Going out with friends and having a few isn’t what it used to be and screens can’t babysit all day, so slug down some aspirin and throw a plate of bacon down your throat because momma, there’s no calling in sick. Plus Andy Richter shakes off the cobwebs and jumps back into the parenting pool with his fiancée's three-year-old. Andy discusses how he found the fountain of youth going through the toddler phase again, and the crew plots vengeance against every parent’s mortal enemies, snot and hiccups. “You’re a Liar…And You’re One of Us” With Sarah Tiana | 9
This week, comedian and writer, Sarah Tiana, joins Megan ,Chris, & Kurt. They love their kids….BUT sometimes that involves teaching them to lie. Like on vacation when the kids’ club at the resort is 4 years old and up and it’s the only way you can have a drink by the pool in peace! Or at Disney World when you need your kiddo to stand on their tippy toes so they (and you!) can ride Space Mountain. Plus Sarah Tiana steps up to the plate with some of her own parenting lies, because telling your sports-obsessed 3-year-old that his favorite baseball player also takes a nap every day is a pretty harmless lie, right?? Then Sarah and the crew play the villains and take down superheroes once and for all.And remember, you can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at Ilovemykid@wondery.com. “Don’t Take a 12-year-old to Bonnaroo” with Ron Funches | 8
This week, comedian and actor Ron Funches joins Megan, Chris, & Kurt. They love their kids….BUT parenting with your partner is hard enough, how the hell are you supposed to do it on your own!? Well it helps when you can just leave your kid with a bunch of strangers while you grab a beer at the bar! Plus Ron Funches, who is a newly solo-parent, talks about the challenges of raising two sons that are nearly 20 years apart in age and why it turns out Bonnaroo might be “too adult” for a 12 year old. And the crew has some choice words for coyotes and the torture that is applying sunscreen to your kids every 80 minutes. And remember, you can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at Ilovemykid@wondery.com. “If I Looked Like That, I’d Be Naked All the Time!” with Julie Bowen | 7
This week, legendary sitcom mom, and actual mom in real life, Julie Bowen joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids…BUT boy, are they gross! From swimming in toilets to crapping in bathtubs, there’s just no way to get around the absolute filth that is raising kids. And it turns out they never grow out of it. The stink just gets bigger and stronger, as showers become mere suggestions and soccer cleats turn into a gag-inducing biohazard. Julie also dives into the challenges of raising teenage boys, like getting them to understand that underage drinking isn’t ok, even if you were thoughtful enough to recycle the bottles. Parenting is a tough job, but Julie Bowen is a famous TV mom…with an iPhone tracker. She’s got this. “Mom, I Pooped in a Hole” with Andrew McCarthy | 6
This week Brat Pack royalty, actor, director and author of the new book, “Walking with Sam, A Father, a Son, and 500 Miles Across Spain” Andrew McCarthy joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids…BUT they truly do ruin your life in the best way. From toddler defiance to teenage indifference, the gang opens up about the warp speed circle of parenting life. One day you’re simply trying to get shoes on your kid and get them out the door and in the blink of an eye they’re using Snapchat to help you navigate through the streets of Spain and barking at you to keep up! But McCarthy is here for all of it… even the poop breaks in the wilderness, questionable hygiene, and bedtime routines that take years off your life. Plus the hosts answer their first ever listener (or should we say But-Head?) Voicemail! And remember, you can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at Ilovemykid@wondery.com. "We All Don't Fight in the Bounce House!" with Jessi Klein | 5
This week writer, comedian, and best selling author, Jessi Klein joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids…BUT that doesn’t mean they have to love OTHER PEOPLE’S kids, especially when some unsupervised 6-year-old is double kicking your 3-year-old in a bounce house like it’s Mortal Kombat! The crew unloads on the clusterf*ck of kids’ parties, gentle parenting, and if it’s ever ok to parent someone else’s kid. Then Jessi Klein joins the fun to share what it’s like to plan a kid’s party, the joy (and horror) of listening to 8-year-old boys talk (and curse) and the Queen song playing on repeat in her house and how it’s melting her brain. “Like Wrangling Puppies in a Prison Bathroom” with Michelle Buteau | 4
This week comedian and actress, Michelle Buteau joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids…BUT they also LOVE using them as an excuse to get out of plans. Megan used her son this past week to get out of a friend’s party and then had an epiphany. Her own mother did the same thing when she was a kid! It’s the Gailey family tradition of blaming it on your kids! Also, Michelle Buteau, swings by with double the parenting struggle to vent about including the unsanitary roller coaster that is taking them to pee in a public bathroom, finding a babysitter (or babysitters) to watch two kids the same age at the same time, and the emotional toll splitting your twins up in school can take. "There’s No Claire’s in the Womb" with W. Kamau Bell | 3
This week W. Kamau Bell joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids… BUT they’re running out of patience with THEIR parents. Everybody loves grandma and grandpa until they start inserting their outdated opinions about culture into every parenting decision that pops up like when to pierce your kiddo’s ears. In Chris’ case, “right out of the womb” seems a BIT too early. Comedian, filmmaker, and “girl-dad” W. Kamau Bell shares his experiences with making a documentary about growing up mixed in America today and how he tries to please everyone on all sides of his multiethnic family…well, almost everyone. And remember, you can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at ilovemykid@wondery.com. "Why Do All Disney Movies Start with Horror?” with Laurie Kilmartin | 2
This week Laurie Kilmartin joins Megan, Chris & Kurt. They love their kids… BUT are completely stressed about how soon is too soon to expose them to anything and everything? Like, when is it ok to show them The Lion King? How old do they have to be before you can leave them with a babysitter? What’s the worst that can happen when that babysitter is just a slightly older kid? Or worse, an older sibling! Plus comedian and super-mom to a 16-year-old, Laurie Kilmartin dishes on how she survived the “nuclear bomb” that is being a single parent and the struggle of juggling parenthood with her comedy career, while also caring for her ailing mother, and how she spends most of her time nowadays as her son’s personal Uber driver to and from Popeyes. Then in Wins & Losses, everyone unloads on what a colossal waste of time it is brushing baby teeth! And remember, you can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at ilovemykid@wondery.com. Plus, actor, comedian, and hilarious dad, Rob Huebel gets in on the sharing with some travel troubles of his own, the problem with sleeping next to a toddler, and teaches the gang about the most exclusive, underground gathering in all of parenting… the poop party! You can call our hotline and leave us questions, comments, or your own funny, totally anonymous “Circle Time” parenting story at 424-570-KIDS or you can email us at Ilovemykid@wondery.com.
