Hey everybody! Episode 151 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Brian James. Brian now has the distinction of being the first guest to be featured three times on this podcast. I brought Brian on to speak about his new book, Traumadelic. I was really happy to have Brian on again to speak about how he sees the overemphasis on trauma, and the more Western psychological model as whole, is potentially taking away from the richness and vastness of the more traditional shamanic experience. As plant medicine work moves in the Western mainstream, it is understandable that it will adapt and be incorporated into Western ways and cosmovisions. However, this does not come without cost, often severely limiting in scope and potentiality the benefits of both plant medicines and the traditional ways of working with them. This may be a controversial topic to some, as much of this has become a new dogma, but, as we speak about, heresy is rarely accepted with open arms and ultimately a pursuit of truth, however uncomfortable, is to be valued. Hey everybody! Episode 150 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Martha Carlin. Martha has a fascinating story. After her husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she quit her job and dedicated her life to better understanding the root of the disease. She began to discover that the Western medical system didn’t have a lot of answers and in her research she discovered the importance of the gut microbiome, both in Parkinsons and chronic diseases at large. It was a pleasure to speak with Martha and have her share in her decades of work and knowledge. We spoke about disease, the gut microbiome, the deleterious consequences of many Western lifestyle practices, holistic approaches to healing, the mind-body connection, and many other topics. Hey everybody! Episode 148 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Remi & Ashley of Kumankaya Healing Center. I had heard about Remi a number of years ago as I am friends with and have interviewed two of his friends and colleagues, Joe Tafur (ep15) and Martina Drassl (ep42). They spoke very highly of Remi and his dedication and skill to the plant medicine path. He was a Christian monk for a number of years before apprenticing with a renowned Shipibo Onaya (ayahuasquero) Ricardo Amaringo, at the healing center Nihue Rao. Hey everybody! Episode 145 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Michal Scheffler. Michal was introduced to me by our mutual friend Marta (who I interviewed in episode 16). Michal has led a very fascinating and full life. He was a DJ for many years and holds two degrees in psychology. His interest in consciousness led him to Latin America and ayahuasca where he spent time with different indigenous groups such as the Huni Kuin, Yawanawa, Shuar, as well as the Santo Daime church. We spoke about this journey and then what led him to other teachers such as the Colombian taitas, Andean traditions, and the Tubu nation of the Colombian Amazon. We spoke about the power of the word, storytelling, his journey into fatherhood, his involvement in the Imago community, and a lot more. He was a very successful entrepreneur who was called, literally, to begin to work undercover saving children from child trafficking. He was one of the characters the film Sound of Freedom was based on as well as a producer. Paul and I sat down to speak about his life, his work saving children, notions of trauma and darkness, what it means to be a warrior of light, and how he has found that working with plant medicines has had a revelatory effect on himself and changed his work to not only patch symptoms, but to get to the root causes of human suffering and ending abuse.
