FMM166 - Messages to You From Future You

How can you show up in a new way to move from procrastinating to finishing? …to getting signed on the biggest and best labels in your genre?    Well, the best way to discover this is to hear from people who've made these leaps… …and made them in a short period of time.   The producers in this episode don't have any particular talent. They don't have formal music training. They don’t have the world's most enviable collection of studio gear. They don’t have sound engineering degrees.   What they do have is a desire and a passion to make it happen.  …and a system to follow.    And when they worked the process, the process worked, and they doubled down on it, and started to get fantastic results.   And if this sounds like a pipe dream. That’s just because you haven't made that first breakthrough. And here's the truth of it…   Once that first domino topples, the rest will start to fall.  …and you will see what is possible for you.    So what is the difference that made the difference for these people?   Well, in this episode, you're going to hear what they did so that you can achieve the same breakthroughs.

FMM164 - Deadlines for Creatives: Scary But Essential

One word guaranteed to strike fear and terror into a creative’s heart…   …Deadlines!    What runs through your mind when you hear that word?   Too much pressure! The enemy of creativity! The quality of my art will suffer!   Any piece of music you write can be open to a never-ending set of revisions, tweaks, and changes.     There's always something else to do, right?   And this creates a problem for many artists who tend to drag out their creative process for so long that their productivity and output suffer massively as a result.    Well, how can you resolve this?   As scary as it might seem, the answer is to work to deadlines.   And today I’ll show you how facing this fear will reap incredible benefits…   …including finishing music more efficiently and at a higher quality…

FMM163 - Perfectionism: Your Quest to Write Boring Music

Have you ever found yourself trapped in the murky world of perfectionism?   If the answer is yes then you will almost certainly know how debilitating it can be…   Second-guessing everything that you do.   Endlessly spotting something else to change.   The sheer frustration of knowing that it is time to move forward yet stuck in perfection paralysis, literally not moving forward at all…   But consider this…   You can't possibly make perfect music.   So what if you just take a chance and let it go?   What if you chose to seek imperfection rather than perfection in your music? What impact might that have on your art?    How much more music could you finish?   How much more might people enjoy your music?   In this podcast, we're going to be shifting our viewpoint so let’s dive in…

FMM162 - Knowledge Shared is Knowledge Squared

You would be crazy to want to stunt your growth as a producer, right?   …but a fair few people fall into a trap that leads to exactly that.   These are the people who tend to hold onto knowledge and keep it to themselves.   This typically comes from a place of insecurity. A place of fear of giving someone else a competitive advantage.   …But the reality is, the reverse is true.    By holding onto knowledge you play a smaller game and can get left behind, sometimes to a degree that you don't progress with your music in the long run.   Everybody wants to grow. In fact, everybody needs to grow in order to reach their version of success.    And one of the things that I've noticed is that the people who share knowledge grow the most, progress the fastest, and receive the biggest boosts to their creative journey.   Sharing is such a superpower to have. It is not something that is going to hold you back.    …It's something that is going to propel you forward.    You're going to get more techniques, more knowledge, more perspectives, more motivation. You're going to feel great!    Only good things can come from it and in this episode I’ll map all of this out for you.

FMM161 - Beware Of Multi-tasking! It reduces your memory, IQ and creativity.

When I started digging into the effects of multitasking, I was absolutely blown away by how deep the rabbit hole goes…   It runs so much deeper than I imagined.   It slows you down, it lowers your IQ, it weakens your memory.    It kills your creativity and productivity while giving the illusion that you are getting more done.   And quite frankly, as someone who creates every single day, this was a real wake up call.    When I started to uncover the impact that this has on all areas of our lives, I was pretty much shocked.    So it strikes me that bringing these things into our awareness and spending some time on resolving it is surely worthy of our consideration and our attention.    So how do we do it? What are some of the things that we can do to overcome this?   Well this is a very serious topic, and if you are serious about making a big impact as an artist then this episode is for you…
