184 Cruising through History: Gorda Cay

This week we kick off the first episode in a short side series we will be running this Spring, featuring the history of cruising. We’ve titled the series, “Cruising through History”, we should have an episode out once a month, in addition to our regular episodes. Good friend of the show, Stephen from Tampa, has agreed to help me out with it. To that note, we are both amateur historians, so if you find us saying anything wrong, or you know differently, please reach out to us so that we can correct it in a future episode. To kick off the series, we take a look at a small portion of history surrounding Gorda Cay (aka Castaway Cay). The information for this show, came from an article published in Outside Magazine published in 2004, and was written by the grandson of a gentleman named Alvin Tucker, who owned the island in the 60’s and 70’s (see the link below to take you to the article). I hope you enjoy this look back at a small portion of the island, we all love to visit during our cruises through the Caribbean. Enjoy everyone. 179 Review of Jim Korkis’ new DCL book with Brett Nachman , from Notably Disney

Brett Nachman, from Notably Disney, joins us this week to cover Jim Korkis’ new book featuring Disney Cruise Line. Jims latest book, Hidden Treasures of the Disney Cruise Line: Nautical Notes, Knowledge, and Nonsense, was released in late 2020. Jim covers a lot of ground in this book, from the history of the cruise line, to theming of restaurants, to small details you’ll find throughout the ship. Brett helps me talk about who Jim is, break down the book itself (without giving away very much of it), and discuss what we’d love to see Jim cover in the future. So stop by the Cove Cafe, grab your favorite beverage, and find a good spot by the pool, we’re discussing the first non-travel book featuring Disney Cruise Line. You can purchase Jim’s book, wherever books are sold (Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.) Connect with Steve, Christy, and Chris:steve@dclpodcast.com christy@packyourpixiedust.com brightbydisney@gmail.com Follow the DCL Podcast via: http://www.facebook.com/dclpodcast http://www.instagram.com/dcl_podcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFg4roSA0yy1qnCySn4tTdQ Support our show via Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/dclpodcast Book your next Vacation with Christy: http://www.packyourpixiedust.com
