164: Becoming Remarkable in Your Encore Career With Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence can often seem fluffy. It can be hard to figure out what it means let alone how to develop the skill.   This is why I love the Beyond EI model. They get down to brass tacks when it comes to emotional intelligence and teach specific actions to take to become more effective.    I recently had the opportunity to be on a panel where we talked about Beyond EI’s new masterclass and discussed emotional intelligence at length. We went into the various ways that emotional intelligence is misconstrued and clarified why it’s really about becoming remarkable and even more effective.   In this episode, I want to dive deeper into this topic and help you understand how emotional intelligence can help you become remarkable in your Encore Career.   We'll dive deeper into these concepts: The traditional model of EI versus the Beyond EI model. What a mind-body map is. Where we can have control over our responses. How to reframe your responses. Twelve self-discoveries. More about the Beyond EI Masterclass. How I’ve been impacted by emotional intelligence work.   Now, for some action steps:   Sign up for the Beyond EI Masterclass: https://beyondei.inc/ei-masterclass/ To get started on your Encore journey, sign up for my resource: 5 Key Questions to Ask Yourself if You Want a Successful Mindset   Download the free worksheet: Three Steps You Need for a More Productive Workday Take the Encore Career Clarity Quiz My Resources: A quick guide to help you get started on your Encore Journey: encorecareermindset.com My Website: https://www.lynnfriesth.com/   Please leave a Rating and Review: Since this podcast is new, I’m asking for Apple Podcasts reviews. Maybe you’re worried because there is no guarantee of success as an entrepreneur or perhaps you doubt that you have anything meaningful to share with the world. I’ve reflected on some of my own fears and worries recently (yes, they never go away!) and asked others what some of their fears and worries are. In this episode, I’ll go through 10 common responses.  Listen in to get some perspective on the fears and worries you carry as you’re embarking on this journey of starting your Encore Career. We'll dive deeper into these concepts: How to navigate the fear that no one cares what you have to say. How to sift through all your skills. 161: My Love/Hate Relationship with Technology

I’ve always been fascinated by technology. I’ve also always been fascinated by working with people. As a classic Industrial Engineer, my whole career revolved around exploring how people and systems (aka, technology) come together to make things happen. Early in my career, I learned several different programming languages. I was an early adopter of the PC. Later on, when I didn’t see the use case for something or was forced to learn some technology, I wasn’t as eager about it. My company installed a business and operations software called SAP towards the end of my career and I wasn’t a fan of it. Now that I’m creating my Encore Career, it’s all up to me. I don’t have anyone to “handle” the tech for me. I’m an entrepreneur and I’ve got to learn it on my own.  In this episode, I dive into this further and discuss my love/hate relationship with technology. We'll dive deeper into these concepts: Some of the struggles I’ve had with technology. How I’ve started to “get my arms around” all the tech out there. Broad categories of technology you may need in your Encore Career. The importance of having a network around you. How to prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed about technology. Episode 159: Habits, Not Willpower, Will Create Your Successful Encore Career

Willpower alone will never lead to success. It certainly won’t help you create a successful Encore Career. You need more than willpower–you need habits.  Today, I want to talk all about healthy habits and how to implement them. To help me do so, I’m going back over some ideas from the study, “Longevity and the New Journey of Retirement” by Edward Jones and AgeWave. They talk about the stages of retirement and the disorientation that comes with it.  When we retire, we disrupt the habits of work we've had for 30-40 years. All of a sudden, we’re launched into a new environment. Additionally, in corporate life, you had a level of drive. You pushed through things and made it work. In your Encore Career, however, you only have so much drive.  All of this explains why we have to depend on routines, checklists, and habits to help support us as we create our new Encore Career. Tune in to learn how! We'll dive deeper into these concepts: How to create a new habit. How to identify the distractions that are getting in your way. Why tracking your habits is important. Why you need to stop being so hard on yourself. Four especially useful habits. The power of simplification. Application questions to ask yourself. Now, for some action steps: Read “Longevity and the New Journey of Retirement” by Edward Jones and AgeWave Read Atomic Habits by James Clear Read Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg Download the free worksheet: Three Steps You Need for a More Productive Workday Take the Encore Career Clarity Quiz Connect with Me: LinkedIn Facebook Please leave a Rating and Review: Since this podcast is new, I’m asking for Apple Podcasts reviews. 158: Hey Boomer, Are You Bored?

It’s your second act. You have the opportunity to shape the second half of your life. How are you making the most of that opportunity? You may be doing work or activities that are useful, but are they fulfilling? Whether you’re leading a church group, working with the food pantry, or enjoying recreational activities, you need to come to terms with something: your fifth cruise may not be as interesting. Your second year of pickleball may not fulfill you in the way you want it to. You're probably not sure what might be next if that is true. What you do know is that there must be something “next” for you.  In this episode, we’re going to talk through some of your options for making the most of your second act. We’re also going to be reviewing an article from Market Watch titled, "'I Needed Something to Do': How Working in Retirement is Being Embraced by Older Adults and Companies." We'll dive deeper into these concepts: What the pandemic taught us about the value of remote and part-time work. The demand for older workers by employers. Why retirees are returning to work. Possible new paths for you and your companies. Challenges that come with this new wave of older employees. An interesting question to consider.
