Biblical Counseling in Action

Dr. Robert Jones is our guest today to discuss his book coming out in August 2023. The book focuses on adultery, specifically written for the person whose spouse has been unfaithful to them. This book is unique in that it’s written for the betrayed spouse, not for the counselor directly, although it will surely be beneficial for both. Dr. Jones says that this book will be beneficial to all types of betrayal as well – not just adultery. He talks about the presence and power of God in a person’s life and working through the sovereignty of God in a significant trial such as this.

Pastor Josh Aucoin joins us to discuss Winter Break @ Faith, a holiday childcare ministry. Josh explains how Winter Break Ministry strives to provide a safe, well-supervised, and fun-filled time for K-5thgraders while their parents are at work. The holidays can be a challenging time for families when school is on break, but the parents still need to work and don’t have or can’t afford other childcare options. This ministry provides a very low-cost option for families and ample opportunity for volunteers to share the love of Jesus with kids in the community. For many of these kids, this is the first time they’re being exposed to the gospel and biblical principles.

Noah Hadley, the director of Car Works, joins the podcast to discuss how something simple like car maintenance can have a lasting impact. Car Works provides assistance to community members in the Lafayette area who have automotive problems and are experiencing financial hardship. These individuals may have a job, pay their rent, and keep food on the table, but seldom have enough money left over for preventive maintenance on their cars - and even less for major automotive repairs. Car Works partners with the Care Team (you can listen more about that in our last episode), to not only repair a vehicle, but help the individual with other needs they may have as well.

Most ministry leaders are familiar with people contacting their church or ministry with a financial need. As followers of Christ, we have compassion for people in need and sincerely want to help, but what do we do when we don’t have unlimited funds, or even if we did, is just handing out money the best way to serve people? Lori Walters joins the podcast again to talk with us about the Care Team ministry. Lori explains the role of the care team and how their volunteers sit and listen to people in need, looking at the whole picture of what brought them to this point, and how to get them to a better/more stable place.

Jim & Caroline Newheiser join the podcast to talk with us about counseling as a couple. For Jim & Caroline, counseling together has been something they’ve done since the beginning of their counseling, but for others, this might be a new idea. The Newheisers discuss the benefits of having both a male and a female in the counseling room and how they both contribute to the session. They believe this is especially beneficial when it comes to marriage and pre-marriage counseling.

Conflict is something that everyone faces at some point. But what do you do when a relationship is at a crisis point? What can you do to help the reconciliation process? Listen along as Dr. Ernie Baker discusses the topic of conflict and mediation.

We’re joined by Dr. Nicolas Ellen who shares his journey of how God is helping him grow in the area of contentment and how to help others do the same. He explains how trials and suffering led him to a better understanding that God is the source of well-being, instead of a faulty belief that well-being comes from people and circumstances. Dr. Ellen gives some practical tips and book suggestions to grow in the area of contentment and seeking God as your source of comfort and well-being.

We’re joined by Pastor Stefan Nitzschke who talks with us about how biblical counseling and the sufficiency of Scripture impacts college ministry. College students are often open to deep conversations and for most of them, this is their first time on their own and making their own decisions. This makes it the perfect opportunity to come alongside them and help point them to Christ and His Word.
