#096 - Adrian 'Mapps' Mariappa - The Power of Self Belief & The Art of Perseverance
This episode is with professional footballer, and former Watford FC & Jamaica Captain, Adrian Mariappa.
Adrian, or Mapps as best better known, has had a 15 year professional career spending 10 of those years in the best footballing league in the world, the English premier league. He’s made over 400 appearances for club, most of them for His boyhood club Watford and 50 appearances Internationally for Jamaica. Name any footballer of notoriety and Mapps has played against them and likely held his own. Cristiano Ronaldo, yes. Messi, yes. Suarez, Hazard, Henry, yes. He’s reached two FA cup finals narrowly missing out on winning both and as a natural born leader was the captain of his club and country.
But it’s not all been smooth sailing. At 15 he was told he would be released by Watford. We hear all about how he turned to basketball and athletics at this time to improve his jump height and speed. We hear about the many times he’s been at clubs, including Crystal Palace, where he’s had a change in manager who has dropped him, so time and time again he’s had to fight to get his place back. At one time being the 7th choice centre back.
This conversation was incredibly eye opening and highlights the importance of perseverance and persistence as we strive to achieve our goals. I hope you enjoy!

#095 - Thomas Robson-Kanu - Living Life Without Ego (REPOST)
Thomas is a professional footballer for West Brom & Wales - and the Founder & CEO of The Turmeric Co.
His career started as a youth player at arsenal and then reading and in 2007 he made the reading first team going immediately out on loan for two seasons before going back to reading where he had great success - including being part of their 2011-2012 championship winning season. He made his premier League debut in 2012 !
In 2016 he signed for West Brom where he still plays today and is currently having his most prolific season of his career as he settles into his new number 9 role under manager Slaven Bilic. Thomas currently has 336 professional appearances for club with 51 goals. And 42 appearances internationally for wales with 5 goals - including most notably his unbelievable goal against Belgium in the 2016 euros - perhaps his most career defining moment to date.
Beyond this, in 2018 Thomas founded the turmeric co . Having experienced 2 potentially career ending injuries he began researching dietary supplements that would help manage his pain, inflammation and immune system - his 15 years of research and developed finally led to the best in class selection of turmeric, ginger and beetroot shots they bought to market.
Thomas is such an incredibly impressive individual. So intelligent and so articulate - his outlook on life and understanding of the internal world vs the external world and how we can best navigate these in order to live a happy fulfilled life is some of the best advice we have ever had on this podcast. We talk all about the power of gratitude and what he believes allowed him to achieve what he’s done so far - and it’s only the beginning.

George is a former World Champion boxer, who fought for professionally for 10 years!
George held the WBA super-middleweight title from 2017 to 2018, and previously the European, British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles between 2010 and 2014. As an amateur, He won the ABA middleweight title twice in 2007 and again 2008.
I’m 2013, He famously fought Carl Froch in a hugely controversial fight that was stopped in favor of Carl, after George won the first 7 rounds! It led to the rematch Froch groves 2 in Wembley in front of 80,000 people.
George had 4 title fights and finally won in 2017 - in the episode he talks all about his journey of becoming World Champion, building a championship mindset and how it was his lifetimes work - how he nearly killed Eduard Gutknecht months before his retirement and the impact thats had on him - how we can all deal with confrontation with a positive outcome, plus so much more. David Meltzer is the former CEO of legendary sports agency Leigh Steinberg (the agency the film Jerry Maguire was based on!) and the founder of sports 1 marketing (arguably the most notable sports marketing firm in the world). David is also a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist, a 3 time international best selling author, a top 100 business coach, a podcast host and a globally recognised motivational speaker.
All in all, David is an absolute baller.
David started with nothing and became a millionaire 9 months out of law school and a multi millionaire at 32. He then lost everything he had made, hitting rock bottom, only to make it all back again.

#092 - Mark Healey - The Greatest Athlete In The Pacific (Chasing Great White Sharks & 7 Minute Breath Holds)
Mark is a professional big wave surfer, award winning spear fisherman, free diver, photographer, filmmaker & Hollywood stuntman and lives on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
Whether it’s free diving or spear fishing Mark is often holding his breathe for up to 7 minutes under water! And on the surf board he's probably surfing waves ranging from 60-90ft tall. He’s often dealing with the highest stakes possibly in life or death circumstances. And despite winning the 2008 spear fishing World Cup and being one of the youngest big wave surfers ever to be sponsored at 13, he says his greatest achievement to date is probably just staying alive!
His outlook on life is Incredibly unique. The weather and the surf dictate entirely what he is doing that day. If the forecast is showing a storm and big surf in Europe - he’ll jump on a plane to get there the following day. He is the ultimate example of someone who is living their truth and constantly in the present. It is such a pleasure to be able to share his journey and advice on Take FLIGHT. Enjoy!
