I find that the folks coming into the industry are coming in with a passion for green building. They have an untouchable energy, and that energy energizes me and the rest of us who have been told "no" for a long time - and we need it! We need you as much as you need us to teach you how to do this. -Kristy Walson Kristy Walson's Show Resource and Information A Land Remembered LinkedIn TLC Engineering Solutions Connect with Charlie Cichetti and GBES Charlie on LinkedIn Green Building Educational Services GBES on Twitter Connect on LinkedIn Like on Facebook Google+ GBES Pinterest Pins GBES on Instagram GBES is excited our membership community is growing. From Propane to Renewable Propane with PERC's Bryan Cordill
Experienced Co-Founder with a demonstrated history of working in the energy industry. Skilled in Negotiation, Business Planning, Operations Management, Sales, and Management. Strong business development professional with a Master's degree focused in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Louisiana Tech University. Show Highlights How propane fits into green buildings and some trends? Why there is an increased interest in using propane to fuel homes? Navigating the need of other fuel sources for cost and efficiency. The right mix of different fuel types buildings can accept to eliminate waste. Realistic approach to blended mixed fuel that sheds high amperage load from renewable resources to make it more powerful. Propane Education Research Council (PERC), the difference between pipe natural gas and liquid propane, and when to use it. Propane technologies and innovations that impact energy efficiency in homes. A few ways the propane industry defines and achieves zero net energy. The misconstrued fact that zero net energy means all electric and demystify propane. The United States produces about four times the amount of propane we consume in the country. "One of the things that we work on at PERC from a research standpoint is increasing the availability of renewable propane. Renewable propane is exactly what it says. It's a renewable fuel that is derived from several sources. The primary feedstock right now would be animal fats or used cooking oil. The production of this fuel right now is only primarily consumed in transportation markets, particularly in California and Northwest, there is an incentive for those consumers to use that renewable fuel in the transportation." -Bryan Cordill Bryan Cordill Transcript Bryan Cordill's Show Resource and Information Bryan's LinkedIn Building a ZNE home with propane webpage Propane/ZNE infographic Renewable propane Connect with Charlie Cichetti and GBES Charlie on LinkedIn Green Building Educational Services GBES on Twitter Connect on LinkedIn Like on Facebook Google+ GBES Pinterest Pins GBES on Instagram GBES is excited our membership community is growing. Matt St. Clair, who has led UC's system-wide sustainability program for nearly 17 years, was recently named a 2020 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Fellow. This prestigious distinction awarded by Green Business Certification Inc. — an international green business industry leader — is awarded to just 25 professionals around the world who demonstrate "exceptional work in advancing green building practices" and "10 years' worth of exceptional impact on LEED." "The green building industry plays a critical role as we look toward rebuilding our economy and our communities in the months and years ahead," said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO of GBCI and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in an article published by Green Business Certification, Inc. "Our LEED Fellows are on the frontlines of that work helping to ensure our buildings and spaces are healthy, resilient and sustainable places for us all to enjoy. LEED Fellows have made substantial contributions to the green building community and their commitment to LEED will continue to help us shape a better living standard for all." Matt's work has made an indelible impact upon UC, from growing UC's green building portfolio from one LEED certification in 2004 to over 350 LEED certifications today, to his partnerships with former UC President Janet Napolitano in forming UC's Carbon Neutrality Initiative and University Climate Change Coalition. In addition to his work within UC, Matt was a founding member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education's board of directors. He has also worked to empower students to be current and future climate action leaders through several educational initiatives, including the Bonnie Reiss UC Carbon Neutrality Student Fellowship Program, Environmental and Climate Change Literacy Project, California Student Sustainability Coalition and Climate Corps. Sweden's Green & Healthy Building Updates With LEED Fellow Sue Clark
Sue Clark is a LEED Fellow, WELL AP and WELL Faculty with Tengbom Architects, where she serves as Project Leader in Sustainability. Sue is also Interim WELL Manager at Sweden Green Building Council and a member of SGBC's LEED Advisory Committee. Beginning in 2006, Sue worked extensively with the Canada Green Building Council, leading one of CaGBC's LEED certification assessment teams and serving on multiple volunteer groups including CaGBC's Technical Advisory Group for Sites and Water. After moving to Sweden in 2011, Sue brought her expertise in LEED to Sweden Green Building Council, where she organized the Council's LEED Advisory Committee, LEED working groups and multiple task forces to address issues of implementing LEED in Sweden. As a LEED Consultant, Sue has participated on more than a dozen LEED projects across Canada, and in Sweden she led the LEED consultancy on Mästerhuset, Stockholm's first LEED NC Platinum project. Now working with Tengbom, Sue joins the firm's sustainability group implementing ambitious goals for a better built environment in Sweden and beyond. As the first WELL AP in the Nordics and a WELL Faculty member, Sue works to support and educate on the WELL system with individuals and organisations interested in applying better health and wellbeing practices to the built environment. Show Highlights An architecture degree provides a great education for looking at things comprehensively. A point of comparison on how consultants interface with contractors and different building cultures work with innovation. The tapestry of complementary environmental certification systems and standards of green building in Sweden No fossil fuel resources within the national borders. The ladder of certifications-BREEAM, LEED and Miljöbyggnad. Tengbom is one of the oldest architectural firms in the world focusing every build to be healthier, climate ready, low carbon impact and circular. Internal competences to address the EU and Sweden's climate declaration, mandates, and emerging legislative trends. Buildings are not designed appropriately for the future. Climate adapted building and the tools that address climate risks for that specific location and design strategies. How cat food and drywall pushed transparency? "This industry is just so much about personal relationships that I'd say it's really totally worth doing. The other thing I would recommend is beware the specialization, stay a generalist, as long as you can. I think the people out there that are really great at sustainability are really great generalists, and there will always be this temptation to go down these different rabbit holes of sustainability, like becoming a daylight expert or an LCA expert. It's not that these things aren't fantastic, but the more you specialize, the more you have to sacrifice this comprehensive picture." -Sue Clark Sue Clark Transcript Sue Clark's Show Resource and Information Healthy Buildings by Joseph G. The embodied carbon impact of the building products take on an ever greater importance. A push for mass timber as part of the future of the building industry. Jim's highlight project that was completely focused on sustainability and creating a teaching building to tell the story of sustainability. "With the Living Building Challenge, as an example, you've got to power the building with the light that falls on the site and provide water with what falls on the site. I would like to see these solutions be solved on the municipal level; that way, the building operator is not also running an energy plant and a water treatment plant. It would be much better if we still had distributed systems, but solve some of these issues on a greater scale. I'm hoping we will start to look more comprehensively at communities rather than building by building."
