How Making One Small Decision Will Lead To Claiming Your Future: David Richman
How do we pull ourselves out of a dark place and into a healthier, happier life? Why do we feel guilty when we take care of ourselves? How can we break the habit of comparing ourselves to others? What is the best way to cope with emotional trauma? At the age of 39, David Richman reached arguably the lowest point in his life. He was in an abusive relationship with an alcoholic, he was overweight, he was a smoker, and his health was failing. He was struggling. One day, he looked in the mirror and asked himself “What do you want to be?” His answer? “I want to be an athlete.” 18 years later, David is a motivational speaker, author, trainer, and consultant. He’s done more Iron Man races than you can count on two hands and he is just getting started. David joins us on the SuperAge podcast to talk about his journey from darkness to health and happiness, the wisdom and stories that he offers in his books, how to cope with trauma, and more. What you will learn in this episode:How to pick yourself up out of a dark place How to re-frame your mindset to one of an athleteHow living for yourself allows you to show up for your loved onesHow to work towards the best version of you How to stop comparing yourself to others and how comparison will get in your way How to cope with trauma “You can’t be a dead hero. So you’ve got to take care of yourself first before you can take care of others.” “Just be the best you. Don’t try to be the best them.” “If you do take one more step, that’s further than you’ve ever pushed yourself in your life.” “I want to be the guy that always believes that my best days are ahead of me. So if I want to be an athlete, I’m going to keep being athletic. If I want to go start a business, I’m going to do it. If I want to write more books, I’m going to do it.” Listen to the SuperAge podcast wherever you stream your podcasts. https://www.weareageist.com/category/profile/superage-podcast/ Connect with David Richman: Website - https://david-richman.comInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/davidrichman_cycleoflives/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/cycleoflives/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/cycleoflives LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidrichman/ Say hi to the AGEIST team!

Dr. Rudolph Tanzi: Proven Brain Protective Supplements For Longer Life
The world-famous Harvard brain scientist and a musician who plays with Joe Perry and Jonny Depp, tells us what is the latest in brain research, and the very promising future for Alzheimer's prevention and treatment. We are getting very close...Can we detect neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer’s disease, before irreversible damage is done? What supplements can we take to get ahead of neurodegenerative diseases? What role does loneliness play in brain health? Is there a connection between our microbiome and our brain? Dr. Rudolph Tanzi joins us on the SuperAge podcast to dive into these questions and more. Dr. Tanzi is the Vice-Chair of Neurology, Director of the Genetics and Aging Research Unit, Co-Director of the Henry and Allison McCance Center for Brain Health, and Co-Director of the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also serves as the Joseph P. and Rose F. Kennedy Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Tanzi discovered the first Alzheimer’s disease (AD) gene and co-discovered the two other early-onset familial AD genes. His team was the first to use human stem cells to create three-dimensional cell culture organoids of AD, dubbed “Alzheimer’s-in-a-Dish”. This model was the first to recapitulate all three key AD pathological hallmarks in vitro, and first to definitively show that amyloid plaques directly cause neurofibrillary tangles. The 3-D model also made drug screening for AD faster and more cost-effective. Using this system, Dr. Tanzi has developed several novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease. What you will learn in this episode: How neurons regenerate lost information after damage from a neurodegenerative diseaseThe importance of lifestyle for promoting brain health How we are inducing neurogenesis in mice, and what it means for us The supplements that seem to mimic the benefits of exercise to improve brain functionWhat supplements Dr. Tanzi takes and whyWhat we are learning from Dr. Tanzi’s Alzheimer’s-in-a-Dish researchHow we may be able to detect declining brain health before it leads to neurodegenerative diseasesThe danger of loneliness and lack of social interactionWhat to eat for gut health and how your gut health impacts your brain healthHow Dr. Tanzi is using glasses with light and sound therapy to promote deeper sleep“If you’re going to take fish oil for omega-3s, make sure you’re paying a lot of money for it and it’s triple distilled, just to get those metals out.”“I feel like I’m firing out all cylinders. It not only helps with brain health but a healthy brain helps with mental vitality, as well. “That’s how we are going to stop Alzheimer’s disease. Early detection, early intervention.”“The brain suffers from not being social and from not having social interaction. Loneliness, meaning being alone, and stress about it, increases risk for Alzheimer’s two fold.”“The brain actually depends on the gut and the bacteria there and the metabolites they make from your food to control everything from mood, to the amount of amyloid you make or break or get rid of, to neuro-inflammation.” Donate to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund to help support research: https://curealz.orgCheck out Dr. Tanzi's music: https://www.n1m.com/rudytanziDr. Tanzi's list of brain supporting supplementsSay hi to the AGEIST team!

Let’s say to ourselves: ‘I am an athlete.’ How does that feel? It feels really different, doesn’t it?” “Let’s raise the bar. Jill Angelo: Women's Health Revolution
How do we effectively start the conversation about menopause? How do we take a holistic approach to menopause and healthcare in general? What impact has the pandemic had on preventative care? Is telemedicine the answer? Jill Angelo joins us on the SuperAge podcast to discuss these questions and share how her company, Gennev, is offering a more rounded approach to healthcare for women. Gennev is a virtual clinic for women 40+. Their doctors, health coaches, wellness products and community specialize in supporting women through their perimenopause and post menopause years. Gennev’s approach is a holistic one — they take into account the physical as well as the emotional to provide the best treatment strategy. “You don’t need to suffer. And most women kind of suffer in silence.”“Your general healthcare needs to consider body and mind. And I think you’re going to start to see a melding of the two coming together versus “I go to my therapist for my emotional wellbeing, or my counselor, or whomever. And I go to my primary care physician for everything physical.” “In our care model, we give you access to a doctor and to a health coach and also to a therapist if you need that as well. They’re your care team.”“Any group of people that’s going through transition needs community.” “‘Gen’ is ‘generation’ and ‘nev’ in old Irish means “radiant”.
