Self driving into wet cement
Kyle from Cruise keeps telling everyone that humans are terrible drivers and that his computer cars will save humanity. In the past week his robot taxis have stopped working because they weren't in cell phone range, crashed into a fire truck and drove into wet cement. Can someone look up Kyle's DMV record? If these are driving better than him he must be the worst driver. That and more plus Fred explains tire pressure. This weeks links:https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/18/technology/cruise-crash-driverless-car-san-francisco.htmlhttps://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/city-officials-protest-robotaxi-expansion-18301796.phphttps://apnews.com/article/tesla-autopilot-los-angeles-d02769ba359cf6381dc1176c3f5a72a5https://www.autosafety.org/us-probing-virginia-fatal-crash-involving-tesla-suspected-of-running-on-automated-driving-system/https://aaafoundation.org/examining-the-safety-benefits-of-partial-vehicle-automation-technologies-in-an-uncertain-future/https://www.forbes.com/sites/maryroeloffs/2023/08/21/driverless-cars-face-setbacks-in-san-francisco-heres-what-to-know-about-the-citys-problematic-robotaxi-rollout/?sh=5fe970cd60a2https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradtempleton/2023/08/18/cruise-robotaxi-hit-by-on-call-fire-engine--is-it-the-fire-trucks-fault/?sh=7b78fc3b4f34https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradtempleton/2023/08/14/gms-cruise-falls-down-during-concert-cell-overload-heres-how-to-fix-it/?sh=7cbb0484239chttps://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V579000https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V581000https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/inv/2023/INOA-RQ23004-4752.PDF

Beth Brooke puts dummies in their place
Did you know that those 5 star safety crash tests do not apply to women drivers? NHTSA bases these crash tests on an "average" male and ignores women that have a different skeletal structure and physiology. But don't worry NHTSA is still researching the issue... of whether women drive? No idea why they are wasting time on this as better crash test dummy technology exists that could make cars safer for everyone. This week Beth Brooke from VERITY Now (https://www.veritynow.org) joins us to explain more about the issue and how NHTSA could solve the problem today.Plus Recall Roundup and Fred discusses the metallurgy for stainless steel in terms of the Cybertruck.Links:https://www.veritynow.orghttps://www.iihs.org/news/detail/vehicle-choice-crash-differences-help-explain-greater-injury-risks-for-womenhttps://static1.squarespace.com/static/5f8dba2948458c1d7ad08580/t/62db0299834ab3684a015d4e/1658520218097/VERITYNOW_DecipheringTheConversation.pdfhttps://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V553000https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V567000https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V566000

Babysitting Self Driving Cars
Self deluded self driving car CEOs continue to claim the safety of their vehicles. Still cannot provide any shred of data to back their claims up. Now the San Francisco Police and Fire Departments are saying they need these AV's off the road as they are a hazard to emergency first responders. Safety equals Communism!
The wheels on corporate lobbying go round and round, round and round. Not a useful observation
Full EV's or hybrids? That's the question we start of this week with. NHTSA and Congress are starting to, maybe, kinda, sorta work on outdated legislation and rules around self driving cars, Kyle from GM Cruise releases an ad that would have him be failed by Fred's 8th grade teacher and a couple of recalls.https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/14/opinion/electric-vehicles-toyota-hybrids.htmlhttps://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/cars/news-blog/u-s-regulator-proposes-updated-rules-for-autonomous-vehicles-in-exchange-for-data-44501899https://slate.com/technology/2023/07/cruise-autonomous-vehicles-safety-waymo-self-driving-cars-ad-new-york-times.htmlhttps://www.autosafety.org/av-bill-of-rights/https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RMISC-23V478-0297.pdfhttps://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RCLRPT-23V480-4609.PDFhttps://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=23V487000https://energycommerce.house.gov/events/innovation-data-and-commerce-subcommittee-hearing-1
