The Crow (2024): We Watched This So You Don't Ever Have To.

Ben & Rob point and laugh at ‘The Crow’, Hollywood’s latest insult to its own history as it constantly ruins everything good in this world. It may star Bill Skarsgard and FKA Twigs as Eric Draven and Shelly but the similarities end there - classic villain Top Dollar is gone, and now Eric fights demons with soundcloud raps. It’s also been a critical and commercial disaster, with critics yawning and the audience not even showing up.But what on earth possessed them to ‘fox’ something that was never broken? Is there anything to redeem this latest Hollywood cas-grab? And will we ever live in a world where this sort of cynical crap isn’t all that Hollywood is offering?CONSUUUME to find out all this and much MUCH more!PLUS! The Crow (1994): Despite The Tragedy Of Brandon Lee's Death, This Film Is Still Perfect

Ben & Rob dig up the original 1994 Alex Proyas directed goth classic ‘The Crow’. When Eric Draven and his fiancee are brutally murdered, he mysteriously returns from the dead with the help of a crow as it begins to guide him to his killers. This film represents the peak of 90s goth culture, with an astonishing soundtrack and acting performances to match; it will however sadly be forever remembered more for the tragedy that occurred during its production than it will for its own, many, merits. Rob is the podcast’s recovering goth, so this film was massively influential on his developing brain. Ben is fully allergic to edgelord goth stuff. But is the bird featured in the film even a crow? Was this film actually a victim of a Triad curse? And what is it about this film that endures even to this day? When a derelict spacecraft falls into their orbit, they must escape the Xenomorph infestation that lurks within to have any chance of survival. But with prior attempts to revitalise Ben’s favourite franchises ringing hollow, has Fede Álvarez finally broken his curse? Does this film live up to the massive weight of expectation both hosts had when they bought their many MANY tickets? Alien Resurrection (1997): Does This Film Deserve The Hate It Gets...?

Ben and Rob smash the vat of ‘Alien Resurrection’ as they birth the latest episode of their series covering every ‘Alien’ movie ever! Released in 1997, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, written by Joss Whedon, and starring Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder, ‘Alien Resurrection’ was a critical and commercial failure, but still represents a significant part of the franchise's history and canon. Ripley 8, a human-alien hybrid clone, is reborn 200 years after the events of Alien 3 aboard the spaceship Auriga, along with space pirates and biology nerds. But what on earth were Fox thinking by hiring a famed French arthouse director and pairing him up with the writer of Buffy The Vampire Slayer? Pearl (2022): Mia Goth and Ti West Go Back To The Past And Tell Us Our Terrifying Future

Ben and Rob travel back in time to 1918 with the second instalment of Ti West’s X trilogy ‘Pearl’. The origin story of the villain from ‘X’, Pearl lets us in on her young adult life and sparks a debate on whether violence is inherent by nature or nurtured within her by the nightmare that was 1918 America. We get a vivid insight into how Pearl LOVES spending her free time, whether it’s killing farm animals named after silent movie characters or abusing her severely disabled father, it’s all fun and games…? So what was the state of cinema during the first world war? Is Pearl the best period drama of all time? Is Ti West some sort of wizard genius able to accurately depict the state of cinema during any time period through his characters? Is Ben’s rap career finally getting the RESPECT it deserves? And most importantly, Is Mia Goth ACTUALLY Pearl IRL?

Alien 3 (1992): A Misunderstood Masterpiece Or A Violently Awful Cash Grab? Definitely...

Ben and Rob leap into the fire of controversy with ‘Alien 3’, the debut feature film of legendary director David Fincher and widely considered a staggeringly disappointing film both critically and commercially. Starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance and Lance Henriksen, ‘Alien 3’ follows Ellen Ripley after her Sulaco escape pod crashes on a planet populated by violent male inmates; and violently undoes huge amounts of story work established by James Cameron in his eighties megahit ‘Aliens’. Widely considered a terrible end to Ripley’s story, this film is nonetheless Rob’s absolute favourite entry in the franchise; MUCH to Ben’s utter horror and disgust. So what exactly does this botched sequel offer that can’t be found in its superior prequels? How did the most astounding of sci-fi franchises fall so low? Has there ever been quite such an unlikely string of stupid, repeated, wilful, stupid, greedy and above all STUPID mistakes made in the production of a movie?PLUS! X (2022): Ti West's Love Letter To Seventies Horror and Pornography Has Shocking Depth!

Ben and Rob get steamy with ‘X’, Ti West’s first movie in his trilogy of period piece horrors starring Mia Goth. With the all-star cast rounded out by Jenna Ortega, Martin Henderson, Brittany Snow, Owen Campbell, Stephen Ure, and Scott Mescudi, ‘X’ paints the screen red when an adult movie crew rent the airBnB from hell from a couple of rural farmers. But does the film hold up to the incredible weight of every reference and homage it crowbars into it’s short runtime? Can adult films also be cinema, as crew director RJ claims? And is ‘X’ in fact the most tightly written horror film since Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’? Aliens (1989): The Single Greatest Sci-Fi Sequel Of All Time Covered By Obsessed Idiots

Ben and Rob revisit LV246 for the seconds of their full Alien franchise series, this week tackling the sci-fi classic ‘Aliens’. Directed by James Cameron and starring Sigourney Weaver, Michael Beihn, Paul Reiser, Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen, ‘Aliens’ is often cited as the ultimate sci fi action film of the nineteen-eighties and for setting the standard for every film in the genre ever since. Ripley returns to LV246 as advisor to a company of Colonial Marines investigating the lost signal of its new colony, and makes box office and movie history in the process. But without the prime movers of Ridley Scott and Dan O’Bannon on board for this sequel, does enough of the original DNA survive? What’s the deeper meaning of this film's heavy Vietnam referencing? And how is this film linked to other eighties classics like Little Shop Of Horrors and Burton’s Batman?
