PerkSpot, ClearCompany Makin’ It Rain

Hey kids, it’s The Shred for August 14, 2018, brought to you by Judge.com. Whether you’re moving your systems to the cloud, building out a team for your next project, finding healthcare talent for your organization, filling that mission critical direct hire to lead your team, or training your employees on the latest technology, Judge.com can deliver to ensure your organization’s long-term growth. To the news: Money is flowing. Last week, Chicago-based PerkSpot raised $50 million. It’s the first time the company has raised money since being founded in 2006 as a home-based business. The company works with merchants to offer freebies and discounts to companies and their employees. The warm-and-fuzzy space is hot right now. Millennials are almost at a point where they expect perks from employers. And with competitors like Fond, Bonusly and Corporate Perks duking it out for marketshare, I suspect more money and startups in the months and years to come. Also making it rain, Boston-based ClearCompany announced a $60 million round of funding today – also its first raise since launching over a decade ago. The company says it’s “the leading recruiting and talent management software solution that helps companies identify, hire and engage more A Players.” Stop me if you’ve heard that one before. Andre Lavoie, CEO and Co-Founder of ClearCompany said the investment will “allow us to continue to hire the best people and maintain our position as the industry growth leader and innovator in talent software.” Be sure to tune into the weekly show for deeper opinion on news you hear on The Shred. Dice Reports, CareerBuilder Downsizes

Hey kids, it’s The Shred for Aug. 8, 2018, brought to you by Judge.com. Whether you’re moving your systems to the cloud, building out a team for your next project, finding healthcare talent for your organization, filling that mission critical direct hire to lead your team, or training your employees on the latest technology, Judge.com can deliver to ensure your organization’s long-term growth. To the news: DHI Group, the parent company for Dice, ClearanceJobs and eFinancialCareers reported earnings from Q2 last week. Earnings per share of 5 cents were in line with estimates, but revenue of $39.7 million, a 2.3 percent decrease from last year, missed by $570,000. Notably, Dice earnings of $23.5 million were an 8 percent decline year-over-year. New CEO Art Zeile noted a need to retain clients as well as doing a better job of keeping up with technology to remedy the company’s woes. In the earnings call, he was optimistic, saying “Although competitive pressures are high, market conditions support a business model based on a specialized offering for technology professionals, which plays to our strengths. We are moving aggressively to streamline our business in order to capitalize on this opportunity. We are also carefully managing our profitability and have a strong balance sheet. We are confident that the combination of these factors will enable DHI to deliver superior value to its shareholders over the long term.” In rebranding news, WebClipDrop, founded by Doug Berg, the guy who brought you Techies.com and Jobs2Web, is now ZAPinfo. Berg says the new name better reflects the product and helps solve the problem of prospects for getting WebDropClip … or is that DropClipWeb … you get the idea. The company also raised $1.25 million in a seed round that was a mix of institutional money and angels. Lastly, Crain’s Chicago is reporting CareerBuilder headquarters is downsizing, moving the company out of its 162,000 square foot downtown digs for a 100,000 square foot space west of the city. Ahh, CareerBuilder, the gift that keeps on giving. Once again, thanks to our sponsor Judge.com. Baby Bathrobes

Searching it hard. You have to type words and push Enter. Nobody has time for that, which must be the reason why Facebook and Google are making life more tolerable for recruiters by just serving up perfect candidates without all that searchings stuff. The boys discuss. Plus, Upwork is down wit’ IPO, McDonald’s order-takers are a dying breed and Indeed is putting babies in bathrobes. Huh? You gotta listen … and show our sponsors – America’s Job Exchange, Sovren and JobAdX – some big love!

Google is Dropping Bombs!

It’s The Shred – a mini-Chad and Cheese bite of Breaking News — This is Chad Sowash The Shred is brought to you by The Judge Group… Who is this Judge Group I keep hearing about? Well, Judge has over 48 years of experience and success in recruiting talent – namely IT and Healthcare talent. If you need Healthcare or IT professionals go to Judge.com and tell them Chad & Cheese sent you — Judge.com — I love that domain Google drops another bomb on the recruitment tech space Last week The Google Cloud Team made some intriguing announcements at their Next ’18 Conference… Announcement #1 Google’s Jobs API is now open to everyone!! That’s right kids the Google Job Search buffet line is open! And this is great because we’ve heard stories about the success of Google’s Cloud Job Discovery – it’s obviously NOT due to Google’s marketing and product naming prowess, but purely due to Google’s amazing ability to kick machine learning and AI — square in the ass. Now YOU can have great job search like Johnson and Johnson who is touting a 41% increase in qualified candidates applying to hard-to-fill positions like scientist positions HOLY SHIT are you kidding me? — or how about CareerBuilder who has developed recruiting technology for over a decade and pretty much said “Screw this job search stuff — Google’s does it better” What does that mean for all of you vendors out there? Well, I’d start breathing deeply into a paper bag because EVERY EMPLOYER KNOWN TO HUMANKIND will be asking for your product to include Google Job Search. Announcement #2 The wasckly wabbits over at Google Cloud just launched a new product name for their recruiting API services — Say goodbye to Cloud Jobs Discovery – that name sucked anyway… Say Hello to Cloud Talent Solution… Seriously Google? That’s the best you got?!? Why a new name anyway? It’s a necessity since ANNOUNCEMENT #3 happened… a NEW CANDIDATE SEARCH API was launched. That’s right kids Google isn’t only going to outperform your job search, they’re going to embed their candidate search in candidate profile / resume db everywhere! So grab that paper bag and start breathing in and out slowly because on this Friday’s episode of Chad & Cheese HR’s Most Dangerous Podcast we’re going to answer questions like: What kind of stats will Google be sharing? We’ll give them to ya! How good can this candidate search be anyway? When will Google go the next step and provide candidate matching? Is Indeed finally going to play ball? What should Employers and Vendors do? Does this heightened candidate search kill Boolean strings? Will Careerbuilder just replace their logo with Google’s? Chad was talking about the possibility of this new API last year… Why is Chad always right? All that and more comin’ to you on this week’s Chad & Cheese Podcast… Big thanks to Judge for supporting The Shred – The Judge Group People Powered Business Solutions – Judging people since 1970… and if you haven’t been Judged and you need Healthcare and IT professionals — what the hell are you waiting for? Facebook, Google Prepare to Play Matchmaker

Hey kids, it’s The Shred for July 27, 2018, brought to you by Judge.com. Whether you’re moving your systems to the cloud, building out a team for your next project, finding healthcare talent for your organization, filling that mission critical direct hire to lead your team, or training your employees on the latest technology, Judge.com can deliver to ensure your organization’s long-term growth. To the news: Freelance gig marketplace Upwork confidentially filed for IPO this week, according to Recode; Upwork, as many remember is the product of a 2013 merger of Elance and oDesk; the company has raised $169M to date, according to Crunchbase. Will you be a buyer? Now to Facebook, at this week’s Jobg8 conference, industry insider Matt Charney revealed in a keynote address that the social network is testing a candidate matching feature. Details were sparse, but it looks like once a job is posted, Facebook recommends users across its entire network who fit the job requirements. No news on what the algorithm looks like at this point – for example, does it only show candidates within a certain geotarget – but an official release should be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Sticking with Facebook, they acquired communications tool Redkix this week. Redkix lets companies manage chat, email, groups, and more within Slack-like channels; the service will shut down and the technology will be rolled into Facebook’s Slack wannabe Workplace. Redkix had raised $17M to date. Now to Google, Big G announced this week that it was launching profile search in private beta. The new technology enables recruiters and sourcers to discover talent in their existing candidate databases. So, if you’re keeping score at home, LinkedIn, Facebook and now Google are officially in the candidate matching game. As usual, we’ll be sure to discuss the news in greater depth on the weekly show, so be sure to tune-in. Once again, thanks to our sponsor Judge.com. Snag Ousts CEO — MSFT Targets Slack

It’s The Shred – a mini-Chad and Cheese bite of Breaking News — This is Chad Sowash The Shred is brought to you by The Judge Group… What exactly is The Judge Group, well Judge has over 48 years of experience and success in recruiting talent – namely IT and Healthcare talent. If you need Healthcare or IT professionals go to Judge.com and tell them Chad & Cheese sent you — Judge.com — I love that domain On to the NEWS… Pivots can’t save everyone… Snag – aka Snagajob – the hourly hiring platform just outsed their CEO Peter Harrison. Why? Well, pull up some Glassdoor reviews and that might start to answer the question of Harrison’s kick to the curb. Harrison’s 41 percent CEO approval rating – which sucks btw – and most of the negative reviews focus on a lack of leadership – never a good thing for a CEO. Not too mention in 2016 then Snagajob’s landscape changed immensely with an infusion of an additional $100m investment, now the cash wasn’t the biggest change rather.. that cash shifted control to outside investment firms. Ohhhh NELLY! And also remember Snag’s sweetspot is the SMB market and with Zip killing it, LinkedIn licking their chops and Facebook – yea Facebook joining the party it’s getting more than competitve at the SMB party! Who will be the new face of Snag? Fabio Rosati of Upwork fame – you know the freelance job site that accrued 14 million users in 180 countries and more than $1 billion in annual billings. Yea that Fabio Rosati… But will Fabio be enough to get the SMB platform through the competition and the new Uber-like hourly start-ups? Who knows but it’s gonna to be fun watching… NEXXT >>>>>> Microsoft is going to drink Slack’s milkshake — Yes There will be blood Slack a business communication and productivity platform has to defend it’s flank from Microsoft Teams a competitor to Slack who has just launched a FREE version. According to Quartz… The new free Microsoft Teams platform is aimed at small and medium-size businesses. It’ll be free for an organization’s first 300 users, and each user will be given 2 GB of storage, along with 10 GB that the team can share. This news should send Slackers into a panic… Teams is integrated with the Microsoft suite and are targeting Slack. Joel and I always talk about who will acquire Slack… Well, Microsoft isn’t in the market to acquire Slack who has $790m in funding, they want to kill them, but what about Google? Who else do you think should be eyeing Slack – let us know on Twitter, just use #chadcheese, on LinkedIn connect and ping us or stop on by the chadcheese.com site and leave us a message. We might just be talking about Snag and Teams v Slack milkshake on the next episode so join the discussion. >>>>>>> Big thanks to Judge for supporting The Shred – The Judge Group People Powered Business Solutions – Judging people since 1970… and if you haven’t been Judged and you need Healthcare and IT professionals — what the hell are you waiting for?
