Ukrainian forces appear to have retaken territory east of Kyiv as intense combat continues north of the capital in Irpin. Mariupol has been one of the most devastated cities with videos showing deserted, debris-filled streets, blown-out cars and destroyed buildings. Yuliia Karpenko and her family finally decided to flee after their apartment building was hit. She tells Anderson Cooper her home "has burned down so badly" and there's "nothing left." A senior U.S. defense official says Ukrainians have managed to push back Russian forces about 34 miles away from Kyiv’s city center even though Russian forces appear to be “digging in” and “establishing defensive positions.” CNN Senior International Correspondent Sam Kiley tells Anderson Cooper what it’s been like in Kyiv in recent hours and says, “things are going relatively well for the Ukrainians at the moment.”
