In the preparation phase, the therapist prepares the client for the journey ahead based on Phase 1 History, they explain the EMDR therapy process, terms, and sets expectations. Cognitive interweaves are used when: (a) processing is stopped; (b) you are running out of time; and (c) when the client is experiencing intense emotional processing.
