Ep 70 - The Sum of All Fears
Do you guys ever become afraid? Do you ever freeze? Fail to act when you know you should have? Or maybe you just are afraid of having that difficult conversation that you know you should have had 3 weeks ago. Whatever the case may be, we are afraid far too often. And that is this week’s episode.Dan poses the question, "Is it ever okay to watch scary movies? As with every good answer, it depends. Does it bring you closer to God? Does it serve as mere entertainment? Or, does it drive you further from God or lead you down a darker path? Fear can drive us into action or paralyze us into inaction. It can devour us and all our waking thoughts or it can take us to our knees and give it all up to God. How we respond to fear tells a lot about how we will respond to life itself.Join James and Dan on this week's episode to discuss those scary movies, what James and Dan fear the most, and why fear is the work of the devil.CHALLENGE: This week, go to adoration. Could be 1 hour or even 5 minutes. Talk to God about your fears. Identify them. Name them. Give them to Jesus.Do not be afraid. He has overcome the world. Ep 69 - Know Thy Enemy, Know Thyself
Have you all tried to ask for a raise? Maybe you have played sports in the past and had a big competition on the horizon? Or maybe you were actually in the military on deployment. Whatever the case might be, you prepared for it, didn’t you? You studied your competition. What makes them tick? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? How can I come out on top?You knew your enemy. Now, of course, your boss isn’t your enemy. Nor is the other team or competition you faced. The actual enemy, is Satan. Whether you know it or not, Satan is coming for you. There is a competition for your soul between Jesus and the devil. “The Art of War” by Sun Tzu: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither yourself or the enemy, you will succumb in every battle.”In this episode, we talk about Satan. In episodes 16 and 17, we talk about Spiritual Warfare and in Episode 44 we talked about Satan’s 5 Generals. Keep listening to hear about the true enemy and why knowing him makes a whole lot more sense when looking at what is going on in the world today. Fr. Dom Challenge: He REALLY loves confession. Not only does he want you to go once, but times that by two. Be extra holy to prepare for Lent men.Not Catholic? No worries! Try the Act of Contrition linked below (number 6). Throughout this conversation, James and Dan discuss 7 common misconceptions about the Catholic Church, how a Pope actually dug up his predecessor and put him on trial, and why actually knowing what the Church teaches will embolden your faith, not diminish it.James's challenge: Buy a Catechism (if you have not already!). Ep 63 - Interview with David Arms, The Other Co-Author of Milestone to Manhood
Are you ready to be inspired? Are you ready to take that next step and welcome your son (or daughter!) into adulthood? Then this is the interview for you!Join James and David Arms, that other co-author of the book "Milestone to Manhood," a practical guide to your boys rite of passage into adulthood. Father Dom and James discussed Rite of Passages back in episodes 27, 29, and 30. BUT, this book actually gives you a template on how to actually incorporate that into your life. You won't want to miss this interview! James talks with the other Arms, David, to get the dad's perspective on the importance of the Rite of Passage for their family. Milestone to Manhood shows how fathers of pre-teen boys can help their sons to successfully make the transition from boyhood to manhood. It is a father’s responsibility to bestow the title of “man” on his son, and the book outlines a once-in-a-lifetime weekend to help a father do so. The weekend involves the other male role models in the son’s life as well, like his grandfather, uncles, and older brothers, who all participate in order to make it clear to the boy that he is now considered to be a man. This coming-of-age ceremony is called his Rite of Passage. Visit milestonetomandhood.com for more info!Like what you heard? Maybe you just enjoy reading James’s show notes?
