Rescue That Part of Yourself with Nate Postlethwait

A few years ago Nate Postlethwait walked away from a highly successful career in real estate to give himself a reset and find more understanding in his life. He sold his home and everything with it and traveled throughout the world for several months. During his travels, he began publicly sharing his journey of healing from childhood trauma and the battles with his mental health. Quickly, a community began to form. Other survivors began sharing their stories in the comments section. That community has grown to over 120k and continues to have thousands of new friends join weekly. Nate has led sold-out webinars on inner child work and most recently, written a four-week course on this work and offers multiple weekly q & a's that help share stories from within this survivor community. On the weekends, he posts the funniest memes sent in from those who follow along and does a segment on "My worst possible advice.” He describes himself as a loud introvert, but also incredibly tender-hearted to those who are hurting and need help. His life mission is to help those who need trauma-informed therapy, find it in a way that is accessible and affordable. He is an avid traveler, but proudly calls Denver, CO home. For more of Nate:Website: www.natewrites.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nate_postlethwait/For more of us:Website: www.Hellohumans.coFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellohumans.co/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellohumans.co/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HelloHumans_coTo become a patron and help this program continue producing This show, and get access to patron-only events, go to www.patreon.com/hellohuman and pledge any amount.

Safe With Me With Matthew Hahn

You may have heard Matthews's story. A criminal steals a safe containing evidence of sexual violence against children, and has to confront a moral dilemma. Does he admit to stealing the safe and go to prison, so a violent offender faces justice and can’t hurt more children, or does he ignore what he’s just seen so he can be a free man?Matthew and I have become good friends, and have talked about this story many times since the recording of the episode. He almost hates it because it’s a life-defining moment that doesn’t define who he is today. It’s a story that has transcended all the humans involved, and become archetypal mythology. A story of good vs. evil, and a story of the redemption of a broken man.Whatever you think of the story, Matthew Hahn has been many things in his lifetime. A career criminal and drug addict, a selfless man of courage, a convict, a devout Buddhist, a recovered drug addict, and a loving husband and friend. His story contains almost everything I want to share with the world. His friendship is one of the great rewards of getting to do this work. For more of Matthew:Website: https://hahnscratch.comWebsite: https://dirtyhandscleandharma.comFor more of us:Website: www.Hellohumans.coFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellohumans.co/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellohumans.co/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HelloHumans_coTo become a patron and help this program continue producing This show, and get access to patron-only events, go to www.patreon.com/hellohuman and pledge any amount.

A Fight For Freedom with Marvin Mutch

Marvin Mutch spent 41 years behind the walls of San Quentin state prison for a 7-yea to life sentence for a murder committed in union city, California. The only problem is Marvin didn't murder anyone. His story was so mesmerizing, we edited out most of Sam’s questions, just to keep him telling his story in his own words. It’s an emotional joyride full of twists and turns, corruption, powerlessness, and extraordinary outcomes. Marvin’s story is about much more than injustice, it's a story about the resilience of the human spirit. He is an incredible example of how to keep going even when you feel powerlessness, and up against insurmountable odds.Marvin’s spirit was not broken, he co-founded My Brother’s Keppers and the Men’s Advisory Council, a prisoner Advocacy group inside San Quentin state prison, and continues to be an advocate for justice reform. For more of Marvin:KQED Documentary: https://www.kqed.org/lowdown/27124/lesson-plan-the-trials-of-marvin-mutchTo become a patron and help this program continue producing This show, and get access to patron-only events, go to www.patreon.com/hellohuman and pledge any amount. For more of us:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/hellohumans.co/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hellohumans.co/Twitter: https://twitter.com/HelloHumans_coAnd if you’d like to buy us a coffee (or burrito) once a month to help us keep going, you can become a patron by going to https://www.patreon.com/hellohuman and making a pledge of any amount.

Bridging Hope and Despair with Kevin Briggs

Briggs, a retired California Highway Patrol sergeant, spent many years patrolling the Golden Gate Bridge. While on patrol, he encountered numerous individuals clinging to life by a thread – individuals who had lost hope and could see no way out of their current situation - ready to jump off the bridge to what they assumed was a sudden death and end of their pain and hopelessness.Briggs, through his compassion, gentle voice, eye contact, and his innate ability of “listening to understand” encouraged more than 200 individuals over his career to either not go over the bridge’s rail or come back to solid ground from where they had been standing precariously out on the chord of the bridge and start a new chapter in their life. These challenging, but rewarding efforts earned him the nickname “Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge.” After a 23-year career with the California Highway Patrol, Briggs retired to dedicate his life to promote mental health awareness across the globe through Pivotal Points, an organization he founded.Today, Briggs is mapping a movement as he speaks and trains others in suicide prevention, crisis management, and negotiations. He shares his “Listening to Understand” skills followed up with key active listening points; his personal triad for healthy living; his RELEASE model to assist in communicating with someone in crisis and his crisis safety plan for those who may be struggling. He also discusses in-depth his own personal mental health struggles. Briggs spends the majority of his time speaking/teaching at conferences, advocacy events, colleges and universities, first responder conferences, law enforcement (including FBI & Secret Service), and military bases. Suicide prevention lifeline: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ or call: 1-800-273-8255TWLOHA find help resource: https://twloha.com/find-help/For more of Kevin:TED talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/kevin_briggs_the_bridge_between_suicide_and_lifeBook: https://www.amazon.com/Guardian-Golden-Gate-Protecting-Between/dp/0990437574To become a patron and help this program continue producing Mood Altering Substance, go to www.patreon.com/hellohuman and pledge any amount.
