Ep. 318 Mark Epstein | Flow Farming and Tokenomics
Mark Epstein is todays guest on Green Planet Blue Planet Podcast, just a few weeks ago Julian visited him at his farm in North Carolina. Mark is leading the "Financial Flow" of Hypha, he has a background as a mathematician and computer scientist. He is also the owner of a vegan farm, called Flow Farm, where his mission is to grow health, organic and vegan food.
In this episode we are talking about:
Mark's passion for farming and his story around building Flow Farm
How a decade of building soil was his personal preparation for the Regenerative Movement
Reverence and appreciation for the natural world that allows us to build new systems
True cost of our impact on nature
In Mark's words: "I always really loved farms, and I grew up a vegetarian and so it made sense to me to grow some of our own food. Farming is a noble exploration into the wonder and miracle of life. How do those seeds know what to do? And how can we assist in a positive way for the whole environment? We apply a blend of science, art, and intuition into our farming techniques, and a lot of hard work. I delight in walking around the farm, and looking at everything that we’re creating. Jules and me and our boys are vegan, so having our farm be veganic is a simple extension of our own values. And, that feels good. And, I love eating the food!"

Ep. 317 Auravana with Travis Grant
Project Auravana is currently developing the most advanced standard currently known on how to conceive of and operate community at the planetary societal scale. Learn the fundamentals of a society that operates without money, States, or socio-economic class division; and therefrom, contribute to its emergence on our planet.
The Auravana project is composed of working groups and habitat teams. The open source working groups develop and publish the societal standard for a global community-type society. These working groups create documents that provide requirements, specifications, and reasoning that can be used consistently at the societal level for mutual human fulfillment. The project exists to open source and free-share the standard for global societal co-operation.
We are developing the societal standard for a highly automated, moneyless (tradeless) society oriented toward human fulfillment and ecological sustainability.
The Problem
The socio-economic structuring of modern society generates a large group of people that live over an extensive area, compete against one another for the common resources, experience inequality and wealth disparity between social classes and/or genders, cannot operate through a unified decision process due to dissimilar understandings and goals (instead, decision making is by authority, majority, or minority rule), and actions that are taken often benefit a small segment of the people at the expense of others and the ecology.
The Opportunity
Together, we have the opportunity to apply our intelligence, understandings, and abilities to iteratively co-create a community network of socio-economically integrated city systems designed to incorporate elements from (and otherwise reflect) the natural environment of our species, while offering every individual on the planet a set of highly enriched living opportunities based on that which is possible today, and directed toward a new era of flourishing and sustainability for all.
The Solution
A unified and emergently designed socio-economic specification that structures the formation of community where people with a shared sense of purpose live within the regenerative carrying capacity of their environment, cooperate with one another using common resources, experience an enriched life where there are a multitude of opportunities for self-growth and contribution, operate through a unified decision process due to similar understandings and goals, and actions that are taken often benefit everyone and do not come at the expense of anyone or the ecology.

Ep. 315 Biodynamics & Regeneration with Darek Trowbridge
A true expression of the land... Pastoral Winemaker, Darek Trowbridge celebrates the diversity in the vineyard, creating wines that are well balanced, provocative and true to the grapes. Nothing is added to the wine except a minimal amount of protective sulfur.
In 2012 Darek started making a Regenerative Composted Mulch for use in his Biodynamic and Regenerative farming and to help revive 120 year old vines that his great Grandfather once tended. From that success he has brought this material to 6 other ranches that are now farmed by Darek regeneratively. In addition, Darek grows food crops and eggs on a small market garden using the Regenerative Composted Mulch. This has provided sustenance for many customers, friends and family and acts like a demonstration project for visitors to see how to grow crops without (soil organic matter destroying) tillage using Darek’s soil amendment.
And whether it’s wine grapes or zucchini Darek is always sequestering carbon into the soil without subsequent loss back into the atmosphere via tillage.
As one of the leaders in the field of “Natural Wines” Darek Trowbridge uses century old techniques to produce chemical free wines that become a singular expression of the winemaker, the grapes and the land.
Darek has been making biodynamic wines at Old World Winery for 20 years. His passion is inviting nature into his winemaking using 120 year old field blends and rare varietals. Using only the grapes and the naturally occurring native yeast to create wines, Darek knows his wines become the true expression of the natural beauty that exists in the vineyard.

Ep. 312 ReFi a conversation with Helena Merk | Spirals Protocol
Todays guest is Helena Merk current founder of Spirals Protocol. Their mission is to be bringing externalities into the economic model by building regenerative infrastructures for the new economy.
Helena recently had a successful exit with her last company called: Glimpse, literally Building belonging! Started with college campuses that went virtual during the covid 19 pandemic, and shifted to remote teams. Acquired by a direct competitor that shared their mission and vision to build a more authentically connected world.
Her most recent update is a collaboration between Eco Labs and Spirals Protocol. The Eco Labs mission is to unlock the ability to issue ecological assets at small scales, creating a new career path: Regeneration as an occupation. They’re doing this by focusing on practice-based methodologies for environmental stewardship. Leveraging emerging innovations in dMRV (decentralized + digital measuring, reporting, and verification) to record Proof-of-Impact in a low cost and accessible way.
Together, Eco Labs and Spirals build a positive climate impact flywheel 🤸🏽Collaboration roadmap:
Eco Labs stakes with Spirals through $cUSD staking
Eco Labs’ practice-based environmental credits are added for review to the climate council
If approved, Eco Labs will immediately be eligible for funding!
Why Eco Labs?
To scale any climate solution, we need to scale remote monitoring and verification. The Impact App by the Eco Labs team does exactly this by:
on-boarding Regenerators into dMRV ecosystems, and
providing simple dMRV data capture via images & location verification via their mobile app.
The team behind Eco Labs is stellar: watching their progress in just the last few weeks in ReFi DAO founder circles, has been exciting.
