#121: Three Simple Steps to Cope Better When Things Go Wrong on the Farm

Sign Up for Farm Marketing Week – Free Marketing Coaching – HERE You can be skilled at farming AND marketing but still NOT be making money on your farm. Here's why... Most farmers are missing the mindset skills required to build a sustainable & profitable farm.  (Actually, it's not just limited to farmers, it's all humans - we aren't taught mindset management anywhere in our lives. Until now.) Here's how it goes - farmers start their farms. They're great at producing top-quality products. They've built - or paid to have built - a nice-looking website that works. They get lots of likes and comments showing interest. Maybe even making lots of sales. But not quite making money. And - because farming is the beast it is - there are lots of moving parts. This means more opportunities for things to go wrong, to break, and mistakes to be made. And these problems take up so much of your time. Problems like these my client brought to our coaching call this week: "Nothing's working out" "Things keep breaking or falling apart" "I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop" "I'm wasting so much of my time"  She said she feels useless when she thinks this way. Once she makes herself feel useless, then she second guesses herself - like, 'why do it when it probably won't work out anyway.' This makes her feel overwhelmed. Which results in more struggle and feeling stuck. Not moving ahead on the money making activities. And not making a profit. This kind of thinking happens to a lot of farmers and if you don't figure out how to turn it around, most people decide to throw in the towel and quit eventually. They decide it's too miserable to live long-term in overwhelm and feeling like things aren't working. But today's episode of the Profitable Mindset Podcast will teach you a few simple - but incredibly powerful - things that will help add the mindset skills you need to build your profitable farm. Click the link above to learn the missing piece of building a profitable farm. They're simple shifts you can start practicing immediately and you'll notice results right away, too.

#120: How to Stop Criticizing Yourself So You Move Forward With Ease

Sign Up for Farm Marketing Week – Free Marketing Coaching – HERE Many of us confuse "being honest" with disrespecting ourselves. We think we're just telling the truth when we say things like: "my marketing isn't working"  "I should've had this down by now"  "I'm not very tech-savvy"  "people don't appreciate the work we do"   These are various versions of thoughts I've heard from farmers many times over the years. Most farmers just think they're statements of fact. But what if thinking this is actually you keeping yourself stuck and small and hurting you and your business? That's what research shows us is true and I want to offer you help today. Self-respect (how we talk to ourselves) is actually a skill most of us need to learn. Many of us were taught as we grew up to be humble and not arrogant or conceited. To be self-deprecating, even. When you tell yourself these so-called "truths" you think are making you look humble, you're actually creating terrible results for yourself in your life. These thoughts do not result in you feeling good about your self or your farm AND they prevent you from making money. Today's episode of the Profitable Mindset Podcast will help you do the following: Become aware of how you're hurting your business with what you think  What simple practice you need to implement that will make your success inevitable  And what to think that will make you feel better immediately   Click the play button and learn how to move ahead in your business with ease.

#119: How to Make Decisions on Your Farm Like a CEO for Very Clear Branding

Sign Up for Farm Marketing Week - Free Marketing Coaching - HERE It's super common for the farmers who first come to me for coaching to think that a successful farm is built by giving your community what they want. For instance, they decide to start a flower farm. People love the flowers and wish could cut their own. So the farmer opens up a u-cut. Then, the customer wants you to save them some peonies. Or pink tulips... and you go out of your way to do so. Next, they want to pick up their flowers Saturday, late, because they're going to be in the area anyway. You comply because you NEED to make sales. THEN... they need you to deliver. Or ship. Or sell dried flowers. Or starts. So you do. Your days are LONG but you're moving product, so it seems logical. But you're not going to get to profit running your business this way. And there is no clear brand when you run your business this way. THIS episode will help you turn this around and make branding, selling, and running your farm so much easier. This same mistake happens no matter what you are farming - the milk, meat, and vegetable farmers all struggle with this at first. And you'll want to get this figured out ASAP or you'll do what most farmers do and quit because you're in constant overwhelm, in reaction mode and feeling frustrated, overworked, not making money. This is what I call people-pleasing in your business and it's the opposite of what your business really needs, which is a CEO making the decisions. And guess what - even if you never thought of yourself as a CEO, you ARE the CEO of your business when you start your farm! But since you didn't go to "CEO School" you weren't aware of this - until now when you see yourself in this reaction mode, this people-pleasing mode. Today's episode of the Profitable Mindset Podcast will help. Click the link above to learn how to shift to being the CEO your biz needs and then clear up your branding to build your profitable farm with ease.

#118: Free Worksheets to Figure Out How to Price Your Products

Get the Free Pricing Worksheets HERE. 13 years ago, when I brought home my first milk cow, I just figured I'd charge a buck less than the neighbor was charging. Yes, that was my pricing strategy! I oh-so-quickly learned that was not a strategy, and not only that, it was a fast-track to broke if I kept it up! And I know this is one of the most common struggles among us all, because I get the emails & FB/IG messages daily: "How do I figure out what to charge for my (chicken, flowers, CSA)?" "How do I stay below the neighbor's price but still make a profit?" "How do I figure in my wage? My losses?" "How do I deal with customers who challenge my prices? Pricing strategy involves so much more than just seeing what the neighbors are charging. Farmers very quickly become aware that their prices must be more than the grocery store because on our non-industrial farmers we just don't have the economy of scale that corporate farms have. Therefore, our prices will be higher, and this means, people new to buying from farmers might not understand why. Once my clients decide what to charge, then comes the mind drama - how do I explain this to my customers? In today's episode on the Profitable Mindset Podcast, I walk you through how to raise your prices with ease and avoid the drama in your mind - and your customers' minds. So many farmers want to justify their prices by explaining the costs involved or explaining the pricing process. Tune in and hear why this will backfire in your business and create doubt in your customers' minds, and what to do instead. Today's episode will help you shift from doubt or guilt or tempted to prove your price, to a place of self-confidence and "in-service" to your customers. When you make this shift to self-confidence, it becomes so much easier to run your farm and charge a profitable price AND maintain a great connection with your customers. Tune in to Episode 118 by clicking the link above, and let's get your prices up where they need to be. Charlotte

#117: The 3 Step Process My Clients Use to Send Marketing Emails With NO Fear

Sign Up for Farm Marketing Week - Free Marketing Coaching - HERE If you're not sending your marketing emails to people with ease, it's not a time management problem, as this week's client thought. It's a thought problem. The only thing between you knowing you need to send marketing emails or newsletters and actually sending them, is your thought about it. My client showed up for coaching because she's only sent 2 newsletters in 6 years of being a lavender farmer. And this is keeping her stuck, small, not profitable. I asked, "why aren't you sending emails, since you know how and you know this is key to making consistent sales?" She answered, "I hate doing them - they make me anxious & miserable." And she wanted me to help her with the time management program to get it on her calendar. But she soon discovered in our coaching call, when you start with that thought "I hate them" --- you'll NEVER take the action of sending them. This thought is keeping her stuck not doing the newsletters. This thought is keeping a lot of you stuck not doing things on your farms! The 3 step process I use with my clients in coaching will help you learn what's really holding you back from doing the things you want to do. Things like sending your marketing emails, and it'll help you finally move ahead to do it with ease. You might think it's a fact, that it's true you HATE sending newsletters, or you HATE weeding, or you HATE the thought of raising your prices. But notice how that thought makes you feel - stuck, burdened, hopeless, defeated, or any other negative emotion that will NEVER drive the action you're wanting - in this case - email newsletters. I teach my clients step by step how to do email marketing with ease, but what happens next is, they know what to do but they have an obstacle thought that keeps them stuck not sending their newsletters Tune in and become aware of what you're doing that's keeping you small and stuck and not marketing with ease - and then how to turn that around. See you in Episode 117! Click the link above to tune in.

#116: How to Stop Your Mind from Spinning and Looping and Finally Feel Calm

Sign Up for Free Marketing Coaching HERE during Farm Marketing Week. I used to wake up every night about 1:30-2:00 AM and just toss and turn for the next couple of hours, worrying about my farm, family, and my to-do's. It wasn't even productive or useful because I wasn't actually doing anything! I was just looping & spinning. But I couldn't stop it, either. Then, I'd wake up on time in the morning, but groggy and tired. I thought it was normal because most of my friends had the same struggle! I thought it was just how life was as a busy farmer + parent + managing the house and business. It sucked, though, to be tired a lot of the time. I knew it wasn't productive but I didn't know how to stop it. I actually thought it was just how life was going to be, forever. I even had friends advise me to drink alcohol before bed and then I'd sleep straight through... didn't work, though! Then my other friend said she takes Tylenol PM every night...  People suggested melatonin and magnesium and specific teas. I tried it all. Nothing worked and I wondered "is this all there is in life for the next 30 years?" Then I found the work that I'm teaching you today. What I'm teaching you today changed my life and now my clients are able to improve their sleep and they've shut off the daytime spinning and looping, too! One of the hugest payoffs to stopping the spinning & looping that goes on in my clients' heads is they find 10-20 MORE hours in their weeks. And I want this for you, too! Today's podcast episode will help you stop the spinning and looping in its tracks!   Implement the steps, practice them, and then let me know how you do! This is something I coach on regularly, too - if you're not yet a client - this podcast will get you on your way to managing how you think so you can create way more time and success. #115: This is the ONE CRUCIAL THING the most successful farmers do in life and business

Get free marketing coaching during Farm Marketing Week HERE.   Do you know your financial success on your farm cannot outpace your personal growth? To put it another way, if you're not happy with the amount of sales or the money, or profit you're making in your business, you've got to work on your mind to improve those results. Many farmers have success at first but then they plateau. That plateau is feedback you've got to take the next step and work on yourself, not on the website or infrastructure or hiring or expanding. It's not the external circumstances that will get you to success - it's self-awareness of how your thoughts are causing you to struggle and then how to shift them to be more useful. This may sound easy - but like most really worthwhile endeavors, it's not. But it IS the solution to building a profitable farm - whatever that looks like to you. Some farmers have very small operations and just want to pay their expenses and maybe have some spending money left over for family fun. Other farmers are trying to make a living solely from farming. Wherever you fall on the spectrum, the process is the same. You've got to get your thoughts, emotions and actions in order and in alignment to be able to create the results you want. That result may be a specific dollar amount in the bank or some other measurable goal. Today's podcast episode will get you on your way.
