Winspear Records - (Barrie, Slow Pulp, Kevin Krauter)
Jared said something in this week’s episode that caught me off guard… He referred to the time period after release day as “Phase 2.”
We’ve talked a lot on this show about the importance of having a “post-release strategy” and not giving up after release day...
But calling it “Phase 2” gave me a more detailed perspective on what record labels should be doing in the days and months after an album (or single) has been released.
In this week’s interview with Winspear Records, Jared simply gives this over-arching strategy a name: “Phase 2”
Phase 2 is when you release bonus material, announce a tour, leak demos, or save a kid’s life at Niagara Falls and hope someone posts it on TikTok.,,
Phase 2 is just as important as Phase 1, maybe more important. This is when you double-down on your commitment to this release, regardless of how fans responded (or didn’t) on release day!
Winspear releases subsequent EPs with original demos or acoustic versions. But they take this simple strategy one step further. They create unique artwork, different track listings, and they even rename the songs slightly to help change the listeners perspective that these aren’t just cast-off demos!
