Today on a special bonus episode of That Tech Pod, Laura and Gabi speak with Charles Fritzen. Charles did a form of gymnastics  called Teamgym where he with his team won Swedish Nationals 7 years, and with the Swedish national team came second in the European Championships twice. Charles then moved to the US in 2016 and quit his job as a data analyst to work as a personal trainer after he got his certification. In 2019, Charles moved to the UK to live with his boyfriend and then started doing online training. In 2020, Charles became a national team coach in Teamgym for Great Britain for the 2020 European Championships. Today on That Tech Pod, Laura and Gabi speak with Kevin Adler. Kevin Adler is a Cybersecurity & Data Privacy attorney who helps businesses, local governments, and individuals understand and navigate the legal issues posed by new technologies and cyber threats. Using his experience with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and other federal agencies, Kevinprepares clients for the eventuality of a cybersecurity incident. Even in the absence of a direct threat, understanding the legal issues behind new technologies can be difficult for even the most sophisticated organization. Throughout his career, Kevinhas worked with new technologies and found inventive ways to serve his clients within existing regulatory frameworks. Before joining Woods Rogers in 2021, Kevin won a Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF), where he took part in the U.S. government program aimed at getting individuals with unique skills into leadership positions across the federal government. As a Fellow, Kevin worked in the Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and CISA. At CWMD, he advised the Department of Homeland Security’s Securing the Cities, BioWatch, and Chemical Defense programs on intergovernmental agreements. At CISA, Kevin provided counsel for the CISA COVID Crisis Action Team and provided legal support on regulatory, intelligence, chemical security, cybersecurity, infrastructure security, legislative, unmanned aerial vehicle, and supply chain security issues. Kevin holds a Secret clearance and has previously worked on Top Secret and Sensitive Compartmentalized Information (TS//SCI) programs and projects across the federal enterprise. Kevin graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska College of Law with Concentrated Areas of Study in Space, Cyber, and Telecommunications Law and International and National Security Law. After graduation, Kevin supported NASA Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Services Program (LSP), where he assisted in providing legal advice to program officials. Kevin grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln cum laude with majors in Political Science and Global Studies. He also was an Intelligence Community Scholar Distinguished Graduate. During law school, Kevin was a finalist in the North American Round of the Manfred Lachs Space Moot Court Competition and interned with the United States Navy Judge Advocate General, United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), and externed at the Department of Defense Office of General Counsel International Affairs at the Pentagon.

Ryan is the Co-Founder of Canvas, a Sequoia-backed startup that is reimagining the traditional office suite for a data-driven world.  Before Canvas, Ryan was one of the first Product Managers at Flexport. At Flexport, Ryan met his co-founders and saw how difficult it was for business teams to get the data they needed without knowing SQL or having to rely on technical teams for help. Anne is a lawyer, technologist, and business leader championing the responsible and ethical use of data in platforms and  intelligent systems. Specializing in cross-disciplinary collaboration across legal, data, and technical teams, Anne’s recent work explores  scalable technical controls to apply policy restrictions to machine  learning models, and best practices for transparency, fairness and empowerment in user experience design. As an adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, Anne co-teaches a course on Data Science and its Implications that  outlines the power and social consequences of data science, data  visualization, and AI.  Anne is a graduate of University of California,  Hastings College of Law and a member of the California Bar. She received  an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Art from Bowdoin  College. In the first chapter of her career, Anne was a technical product  manager at a software company serving the newspaper industry, and then the founding CTO of an e-commerce and affiliate marketing business. Her  second chapter as a lawyer began as an associate in the Los Angeles offices of Christie, Parker & Hale, and then Foley & Lardner,  before moving in house to lead Hulu’s IP, Technology, and Privacy work.  From 2013 to 2022, Anne led Nike’s Global Privacy, Digital, and  Technology Legal team in her role as Chief Privacy Officer and Digital  Transformation Counsel — focusing on issues of Privacy, Cybersecurity,  and Data Localization, Wearable Tech, Ethical AI, and Global Content  Moderation.www.thattechpod.com

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Douwe has been around computers his whole life and began programming when he was nine. In this role, Rebecca founded the Institute’s global knowledge mobilization practice, bringing together experts in industry, civil society, and government to accelerate the societal impact of CIFAR’s research programs. In 2017, she was responsible for the launch of CIFAR’s AI & Society program to support international working groups on the questions AI poses for all aspects of policy and society.
