Learnings From Animal Rebellion UK - 2019

Dilan Fernando discusses how over 2019 the UK public become more attuned to the climate crisis than ever before. However, the public conversation largely ignored the environmental impacts of animal farming, and the need for animals to be included in society's visions for climate justice. In light of this, Animal Rebellion was formed to highlight that we must end the animal emergency if we wish to end the climate emergency. A mass movement organisation, the group recently engaged in a two week campaign aiming to shift public consciousness on the need for a plant-based food system. The talk tells the story of Animal Rebellion while drawing out key learnings about strategy, movement building and how we might move forward in building public support for a plant-based food system. This talk was recorded at the Liberated Futures 2019 conference in Melbourne, organised by Collectively Free Kulin Nations and The Institute for Critical Animal Studies (Oceania). You can listen to audio of other talks from this conference here. You can watch videos of the talks from this conference here. You can also listen to a recap of the conference on Freedom of Species.
