222: The [Unsolved] Murder of Susan Powell- Part 2
Part 2 of 2
**TRIGGER WARNINGS** murder, child murder, domestic abuse, violent death, child pornography, Suicide
On December 7, 2009, 28-year-old Susan Powell didn’t show up to work. She never dropped her two sons off at daycare. Nobody could reach her and she hadn’t been seen since the night before. Her sons and her husband were also nowhere to be found. Within a few hours, Josh, Charlie, and Braden Powell had been located, but Susan was still missing. Josh said that he’d taken their boys on a spontaneous camping trip the night before. In a snowstorm. In Utah. In December. He said that they’d left Susan at home and had no idea where she was. The investigation that followed revealed a crumbling marriage weighed down by Josh Powell’s controlling and abusive behavior. Unfortunately, before investigators were able to determine Josh’s exact role in Susan’s disappearance, he made one last horrific play for power, giving a middle finger to his wife’s family and friends, taking the last pieces of evidence to his grave.

220: Serial Killer Anthony Allen Shore
***TRIGGER WARNING***
Murder - Murder of a Child - Rape - Rape of a Child
Sexual Abuse - Child Abuse - Strangulation
In Houston, TX, from 1986 to 1995, Anthony Allen Shore was responsible for the rape and murder of one woman and three children. He raped an additional girl but fled the scene afterwards and didn’t murder her. There is a very high likelihood that his crimes may have gone unsolved for years if he hadn’t been turned in by his family for molesting his two daughters. He is known as the “Tourniquet Killer” because it was the method he used to murder 3 of his victims.

***TRIGGER WARNING ***
Rape - Murder - Strangulation - Murder & Rape of a child - Torture
From September 1987 to December 1987, 4 women, aged 15 to 44 were attacked, raped, and strangled at the hands of a sadistic killer. There were no witnesses to any of the homicides, and investigators had struggled until a hair found at one scene was tested using early DNA testing methods. The Southside Strangler investigation was a landmark case involving DNA testing evidence. Eventually, one man was exonerated for crimes he didn’t commit, while Timothy Wilson Spencer was convicted of these horrific crimes and eventually sentenced to death.

217: Breana Noojin Nix- Murder or Overdose?
TRIGGER WARNING: murder, drug abuse, opiate use and overdose, domestic abuse
Want this episode Ad-Free: Join our Patreon for as little as $3/month and get all episodes Ad-Free!
On Monday, March 2, 2020, Steven Nix called his sister-in-law, Brittany Noojin, at work. He nonchalantly told her that her sister had tried to kill herself, and that she should come over. Brittany arrived at her sister’s home to find that first responders were stopping resuscitation efforts and pronouncing her 32-year-old sister, Breana Noojin Nix, dead. The autopsy stated that it was an accidental death caused by an overdose of the opiate Fentanyl. Breana’s family was stunned. The beautiful, bright, ICU nurse was not a drug user and had never expressed thoughts of suicide. Less than six months later, Breana’s husband, Steven, had his ex-girlfriend move into his home and was living comfortably off the money paid to him from Breana’s life insurance policy. By this time, the Noojin family knew that Breana’s death was not an accident and strongly believed that Steven was behind it. Police, however, supported the ruling of accidental death, forcing the Noojin family to start their own investigation into what was so obviously the MURDER of Breana Noojin Nix.

On Monday, February 9th, 2004, 21-year-old University of Massachusetts nursing student, Maura Murray, crashed her vehicle into a snowbank in Haverhill, New Hampshire. Approximately 7 minutes later, when police arrived, Maura had disappeared. She has never been seen or heard from since. 18 years later, the disappearance of Maura Murray has turned into one of the greatest debated mysteries in the world of true crime. There are countless theories, questions, and arguments that all ultimately end in two very important questions: where was Maura driving that night and where is she now?

214: Alonzo Brooks
On April 3rd, 2004, 23-year-old Alonzo Brooks left his home in Gardner, Kansas, and told his mother, Maria, he was headed to a party with friends. That was the last time she’d see her son alive. Less than 24 hours later, Maria tried to file a missing persons report on her son in La Cygne, Kansas, about an hour away from their home. Alonzo’s friends who’d given him a ride to the party somehow left without him, at a party in a small town, where he was one of only three people of color in attendance. 27 days after Alonzo went missing, his family found his body on a creekbed, not far from the farmhouse where the party had been. Strangely enough, his body wasn’t hidden, and the area had been searched multiple times before, with no signs of Alonzo. His manner of death was initially ruled as “undetermined” and closed by the KBI, stating there was no evidence of a homicide. Alonzo’s family has continued to fight to prove that he was the victim of a hate crime and that his murderers are still walking free.

213: West Memphis Three
On May 5th, 1993 three 8 year old boys were reported missing by their parents. An initial search that night didn’t find the boys, but the following day, a more thorough search of areas that the boys were known to play and hang out was carried out and the bodies of Stevie Branch, Chris Byers, and Michael Moore were discovered. With very little actual evidence, three teens were arrested and found guilty of the murders. They spent years in prison before being released, and are still fighting to this day to clear their names. The state of Arkansas refuses to acknowledge any wrongdoing, and lets the true killer or killers walk free.
