181: Putting The Time In And Going Full-Time On YouTube With Taku From Outdoor Chef LIfe This week we are joined by Taku from the Outdoor Chef Life YouTube channel. We talk about what it took to transition from full-time sushi chef to now a full-time YouTube creator and so much more. About Taku: Taku is the creator behind Outdoor Chef Life. He started fishing with his dad at age 5, fishing for largemouth bass in Japan, where he was originally born before coming to California when he was 9. He was going to SFSU when he discovered his love for foraging. It started with harvesting plants in the local area then moved onto the coast, where he could find an endless variety of fresh seafood. While studying, Taku worked as a sushi chef. After graduating he worked in a physical therapy clinic for a year before realizing his passion was being a chef and decided to pursue it. He talks about how he was inspired by his daughter to start their now successful kids YouTube channel and what it takes to run a channel while working full time. About Alan: An advertising dad trying to find a children app for his 3year old daughter ended up creating a Youtube channel for his daughter. The purpose of the channel is to provide better kids content for kids, parents and preschool teacher. He runs the Fishing and Spearfishing YouTube channel Fish and Dive Hawaii as well as a small clothing brand. On the channel, he does tutorials, fishing and diving vlogs, and much more. The channel has been up since last January and has well over 6500 subs and a hundred thousand video views! In this week’s episode, I chat with Kim from the Natural Kaos YouTube channel. We talk about her channel, how she went from a hobby to full-time and the thought that YouTube is an easy profession. About Kim I’m Kim Pratt and a mother of 4 boys that I had back to back in 5 years, I do not have any twins. We live in northern CA on 7 acres and my husband Jason and I have been married for 12 years. I have a political science and Spanish degree from BYU Hawaii, neither of which have anything to do with my channel:)  Natural Kaos Youtube focuses on professional skincare techniques that I started doing at home because I had a bunch of kids and couldn’t make office appointments. I knew that the procedures I was doing at home would be very searchable and that I most likely was not the only one doing things like this at home. I also travel a ton and so I share travel videos but these do not do nearly as well as the skincare; travel is a very competitive youtube market to break into. So I focus on my skincare videos because those do the best and I make travel videos because its a great keepsake for our family, and as the channel grows daily because of the skincare videos, the travel videos get more views. In fact, the boys and I are headed to Europe for a month in two weeks and I will vlog this adventure; mom with 4 young boys traveling alone through Europe; I’m not sure if it will get any traction but in the end the videos I make are for myself and if they inspire, encourage or help others in any way then that’s a bonus.
