Shana Hussin

Gin and Chad have been using a vibration plate at home for years. Interested in an affordable vibration plate with outstanding customer service? Shana has been in the nutrition world for 20 years. Her first job was in weight management, and the go-to strategy was calorie restriction. Shana's clients would be very successful in the first 3-4 months of that regimen, but then eventually regain all their weight. At the time, Shana simply did not understand that it was an issue of insulin. In 2016, Shana's son had been diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. She researched nutrition and natural therapies and found a natural health clinic that helped her son. She loved their approach and got a job as one of their clinicians. Knowing Shana had a background in weight management, the clinic owner asked her to create a weight loss plan. This was how Shana found intermittent fasting. She discovered The Obesity Code, and listened to Dr. Fung's podcasts. Shana also read Delay, Don't Deny, and listened to the IF Stories podcast. It was thrilling for Shana to finally understand why her clients always struggled to keep the weight off! Once she changed her approach, all 18 participants in her weight loss program had incredible results using IF. Shana eventually left the clinic to work with her own clients, and to write her book, Fast to Heal, A 5 Step Guide to Reversing Insulin Resistance. The advice she'd give new IFers: "Look for more than weight loss. Look for things you weren't expecting, like health benefits! Embrace IF. Give it a month. Meet your body where it is today."You may find Shana at: fasttoheal.info and her Facebook group, 'Fast to Heal Nutrition Support Group.'Get Gin’s books, including her latest New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Become a member today by going to Feals.com/ifstories, and you’ll get 50% off your first order with free shipping.Meghan was very athletic growing up, but in college quickly gained 40 pounds. She realized something was wrong and headed to the doctor. She was told her thyroid had stopped working, and was put on thyroid medication. Meghan joined Weight Watchers, and got down to 175 pounds. Once married, and three pregnancies later, Meghan's weight climbed to 230 pounds. Meghan was in a major car accident in November of 2018, which partially amputated her foot. During her five-month recovery, she could not walk. A surgeon gave her the wake-up call she needed: for every pound she lost, it would take 4 pounds of pressuire off of her ankle. In of May 2019, she made the decision to change her life. Meghan looked up: "How to lose weight with thyroid issues" and Gin’s book Delay Don't Deny popped up! She researched intermittent fasting, and then found Gin’s Facebook group. She wrote down her goals and her main reasons to lose weight: less back pain and increased mobility were among them. In June of 2019, Meghan began IF with a 16:8 approach, eventually moving to 18:6.Meghan has now lost around 85 pounds. She has far less foot pain, and now only needs half of her thyroid medication. The advice she'd give new IFers: "Take time to find out what you works for YOU. Take pictures. Don't compare your body to someone else's. Be kind to yourself in the process."Get Gin’s books, including her latest New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. In July of 2019, Dharmesh came across intermittent fasting through an app on his phone. He researched everything that he could about IF, and started with 16:8. The weight fell off quickly! He easily transitioned to 18:6, then 20:4. He currently follows 22:2. Dharmesh has lost 90 pounds and is now wearing a size 34 pants. The Delay, Don't Deny facebook group has been a huge support in his IF journey. The advice Dharmesh would give to new IFers: "Take a lot of pictures. IF is not a wagon, it's a path. Don't punish yourself. It is day to day. He removed sugar during the week, enjoying treats on Sundays. Once he moved back to New Jersey, Dennis started lifting weights, shortened his window even more, and could now fit into a size XL chef's coat! He has lost around 55 pounds overall, and now weighs 220 pounds. The health benefits Dennis has experienced are improved sleep, no longer needing an afternoon nap, and lots of energy! Become a member today by going to Feals.com/ifstories, and you'll get 50% off your first order with free shipping.Sonja specializes in Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT. It is commonly known as ‘Tapping’. She found intermittent fasting a little over a year ago when looking for a way to lose weight and feel better. Working out and eating throughout the day wasn't helping. She listened to Delay, Don't Deny, and it made sense to her. After reading about others’ success with IF, Sonya realized that she needed to do some "unlearning" when it came to how to lose weight. She began IF gradually, as she began by skipping eating after 11 pm. Almost immediately, her acid indigestion went away.Sonja noticed that she was not only detoxing from food, she says she was also detoxing from "emotions I had suppressed with food. I was psychologically detoxing." Once her mindset was in the right place, the pounds started coming off with ease. Sonja loved the energy IF brought her, loved the way her taste in food changed, and found the foods that made her "happy and alive." Her 'sweet spot' is a 20:4 protocol, and she has lost 35 pounds over the last year of IF.Sonja has been Tapping for 15 years to heal the emotional pain and trauma from her past. Tapping helps with depression and a multitude of emotional issues. She describes that Tapping "turns on neuropeptides in your brain, which boost your mood, increases immunity, and enhances your mental cognition. It rewires your brain. It gives you strength and emotional resiliency." Tapping is both freeing and healing. Also in this episode, Sonja leads Gin in a short Tapping session. Dr. Jones specializes in Functional Endocrinology. He learned about IF six years ago after two of his patients, who he had not seen in a year, both mentioned that they had been practicing intermittent fasting. They each had great success with both weight loss and other health benefits. This was when he began to study IF, the history of it, the science behind it, and how it relates to his field of endocrinology. He began to work with a few patients to see how they would respond to IF, and he now currently has over 500 patients who are intermittent fasters Dr. Jones shares that high insulin affects the whole body. He refers to it as similar to the process of rusting, and the entire body becomes inflamed. He explains that high insulin also affects the brain, arteries, heart, kidney and liver. IF reduces inflammation and lowers insulin. He has his patients fast to reduce insulin.Dr. Jones wrote a book called I Am More Than Enough, based on his experience with women for more than 20 years. He noticed a common thread of how hard they were on themselves, and how this can lead to stereotypes they may have of themselves. His book was intended to be used as a tool to help women have better self image.Connect with Dr. Jones at: utahwellnessinstitute.comGet Gin’s books, including her latest New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Daniel shares that he was always skinny as a kid, but then into his 20s and 30s, he put on weight. This was when the yo-yo dieting began. He did Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, and counted calories. He would lose weight, but then gain it all back, plus more.In June 2018, he found out his wife was pregnant, and Daniel decided he finally needed to get his weight under control for his new baby. He tried to weigh himself, but the scale would not register past 350 pounds. This was a defining moment for Daniel. He knew he needed something different; a "long-term solution." He began listening to health podcasts and reading books, and found intermittent fasting. In the Fall of 2018, Daniel began with skipping breakfast once a week. After a month of this, he noticed that he "felt his best" on those days. He was then ready to jump into IF everyday. He started with 16:8, and lost 60 pounds by February of 2019.That same month, their daughter, Bridget, was born with Trisomy 18. Trisomy 18 is a genetic disorder that causes severe developmental delays due to an extra chromosome. Bridget lived for exactly 31 days.To honor his daughter, Daniel created the "Bridget Challenges," where he'd give up or do something for 31 days. The first challenge he did was IF with 18:6 for 31 days. Another was walking 31 miles in a day.The advice Daniel would give to new IFers: "Be patient. You'll see progress over time, and you'll get to where you want to be! Be kind to yourself. Stick to it. IF takes practice. Let your body do the rest."To date, Daniel has lost 130 pounds, and does a mostly 20:4 protocol.Get Gin’s books, including her latest New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. Linda Varghese
In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Dr. Linda Varghese, a pathologist who lives in Minneapolis, MN.This episode is brought to you by Organifi. Gin loves Organifi Gold, but there are other delicious options available for you to choose from. Visit organifi.com/ifstories to save 15% on your order.Linda was always trying to lose weight. She first came across intermittent fasting in 2016 when she came across Dr. Michael Mosley's book and blogs about the strategy known as 5:2, which is an up/down day approach where you fast two out of the five days each week. She liked the science behind it and followed this protocol for almost two years. But Linda never fasted clean, adding Splenda and cream in her coffee. And because of this, fasting was never "easy." In May of 2019, Linda came across the Intermittent Fasting Podcast, where she learned about the clean fast. She read Delay, Don't Deny and The Obesity Code. Once she began to fast clean, the fast became easy and enjoyable! She then moved her window to a morning one, and this felt natural. Her window is typically 9 am-noon each day. She has lost 15 pounds. Linda talks about the science behind the current obesity epidemic, and explains that about "80% of chronic diseases are linked to dietary choices." She also explains that "obesity is a hormonal disease." Restricting calories does not fix obesity, as it is an issue of insulin. "Fasting causes insulin to lower, and will heal the insulin problem, but this may take time. Be patient."The advice she'd give to new IFers: "Understand the science behind IF. Start small and simple, and be persistent. Listen to the IF podcasts, use apps for tangible reminders, and tweak IF to fit your lifestyle. IF is not a diet, it is going to be your lifestyle."Get Gin’s books, including her latest New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast.
