Paul Goodyear

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Paul Goodyear from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Are you ready to take your intermittent fasting lifestyle to the next level? There’s nothing better than community to help with that—and now, it’s time for us to get Cleanish! In September we moved the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network to a new and improved platform and the community has really taken off. In the Delay, Don’t Deny community we have a true community feel, and there’s just the right support for you as you live your IF lifestyle. And, starting January 5th, we will be starting a community book study for Gin’s new book, Cleanish!  For a limited time, you can use the coupon code CLEANISH to join the DDD Community and save 15% on any plan. If you join as an annual member, that’s less than one dollar a week for a year of community and support! To take part, preorder cleanish today through your favorite bookseller or through the links at ginstephens.com/cleanish and then go to ginstephens.com/community to join the community for 15% off using the promo code CLEANISH. Don’t forget to click “apply” after entering the promo code to have the 15% discount applied before completing your enrollment. The book study starts January 5th and we look forward to getting Cleanish with you in the new year!In 2015, Paul reached his highest weight of 350 pounds, and he knew it was time to do something about it. He decided to walk more and watched what he ate. He lost 80 pounds, but gained it all back by 2018.  He then stumbled upon intermittent fasting through a podcast with Dr. Jason Fung. Paul tried IF for a week, but gave up.  As the pandemic hit in March of 2020, Paul bought a stationary bike and began to do long rides. He was able to lose 40 pounds, which gave him the motivation to keep going for more.In August of 2020, Paul found The Intermittent Fasting Podcast, and with new resolve, began IF again. With IF, Paul lost another 50 pounds. He went from 280 to his current weight of 230. His health has also improved: his blood pressure has normalized, he has fewer aches and pains, and his eczema is gone.  Paul's advice to the new IFer: Take lots of "before" photos, and don't forget measurements! Keep it simple. Join the DDD group for support in your IF journey. Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast. Allison Woods

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Allison Woods from Sacramento, CA.Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! Gin wants to show you how to become clean(ish) where it counts:  you’ll learn how to eat (mostly) clean and live (mainly) clean as you unlock your body’s natural ability to self-clean.   Instead of aiming for perfection (which is impossible) or changing everything at once (which is hard, and never leads to lasting change), you’ll cut through the confusion, lose the fear, and embrace the freedom that comes from becoming clean(ish). As you learn how to lower your toxic load through small changes, smart swaps, and simple solutions, you’ll breathe a (clean) sigh of relief and embrace your own personal evolution toward becoming clean(ish). Go to https://www.ginstephens.com/cleanish.html for more information. The book will be released on 1/4/22, but you can preorder now through Amazon or your favorite online book retailer. Preordering is really important, as it gives the publisher an idea of how many books to print.  Allison struggled with food addiction her entire life. This caused her to be overweight, and eventually morbidly obese. She tried her first diet at age nine, which led her down a path of countless diets, diet programs, pills, shakes and detoxes. Desperate for something to work, Allison tried smoking to stop eating. She even used drugs to take her insatiable appetite away. Once clean and sober, however, Allison went right back to dieting. Desperate once again, she had gastric bypass surgery in 2011.  Her yo-yo dieting would continue until May of 2019, when the owner of her local dry cleaner shared the IF lifestyle with her. Allison found Delay, Don't Deny, and learned the importance of the clean fast.  Over time, Allison eliminated flour and sugar, as she feels her best this way. She has gone from 280 to 140 pounds, and from a size 24 to size 10! Allison's health victories are numerous: she is no longer pre-diabetic, both her plantar fasciitis and digestive issues are gone, her knee pain has disappeared, and she is off blood pressure and thyroid medications. She has sustained energy throughout the day, and is able to keep up with her son.  Allison's advice: Clean fast. Keep it simple. Be patient. Food quality matters. You may find her coaching services at: www.yourifcoach.com BIG NEWS! We have made some major changes in the Delay, Don’t Deny membership community, including moving to a whole new platform. Our old platform had some bugs and issues with functionality which kept us from connecting as easily as we hoped, so we have moved the entire community. It’s new and improved—and we are already feeling at home. If you’re looking for intermittent fasting support in a cozy community that celebrates the clean fast, you can now join us by going to ginstephens.com/community. And, if you were a Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network member who was under-whelmed with the experience, we promise the new community has everything we hoped for but didn’t have on the old platform. You can connect directly with Gin in the Ask Gin group, and she’ll answer all of your questions personally. If you’re new to intermittent fasting or recommitting to the IF lifestyle, join the 28-Day FAST Start group, and both Gin and the other group members will walk virtually beside you each day of your FAST Start. After your fast start, join Gin and other community members for support in The 1st Year group. There are many more useful spaces beyond these three, and you can interact in as many as you like.Members of the DDD Community have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories streaming within the community platform, ad-free! You can even download them to your device and listen off-line. That’s just one reason to join. Visit ginstephens.com/community to join. An annual membership is $59.95. If you aren’t ready to fully commit for a year, join for $9.99 a month and you can cancel at any time. If you know you’ll want to stay forever, we also have a lifetime membership option available.  IF is free. You don’t need to join our community to fast. But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community.NOTE: If you were an annual member of the DDD Social Network who joined between March and September of 2021, please email gin@intermittentfastingstories.com and ask about how you can make the transition to the new platform at no additional charge. We can’t wait to have you join us on the new platform!Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Michelle Parker

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Michelle Parker from Nashville, TN. Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! As you learn how to lower your toxic load through small changes, smart swaps, and simple solutions, you’ll breathe a (clean) sigh of relief and embrace your own personal evolution toward becoming clean(ish).Go to https://www.ginstephens.com/cleanish.html for more information. The book will be released on 1/4/22, but you can preorder now through Amazon or your favorite online book retailer. Preordering is really important, as it gives the publisher an idea of how many books to print.  Michelle is an executive headhunter. She shares that she did her first diet at age fourteen, which began a lifetime of trying "every diet under the sun."  By January of 2019, Michelle had reached her highest weight. A friend told her about intermittent fasting, and Michelle immediately began to research it. She read Delay, Don't Deny, The Obesity Code, and listened to The Intermittent Fasting podcasts. This helped her to understand how and why IF works.  As Michelle began her journey, she looked at IF as a diet. Over time, however, she realized she needed to change her mindset of, "I hate my body; how can I make it smaller?" to "How can I serve and heal my body?" This changed everything!  Michelle has gone from a size 10 to a size 6 and feels incredible.Michelle's advice: Shift your mindset. Don't just focus on losing weight. Look at IF as serving your body. Give your body what it needs. BIG NEWS! She was even a Weight Watchers’ coach for ten years. Melanie had heard of intermittent fasting over the years, but officially began her IF journey in March of 2020. She quickly read Delay, Don't Deny, The Obesity Code, and Fast Feast Repeat, learning all the science behind IF. Melanie keeps her window flexible, as "my life is not guided by fasting." She has lost 15 pounds and loves the energy and freedom IF brings. "I have a bounce in my step," she remarks. Melanie's advice to new IFers: "Trust the process. Take 'before' pictures. IF is science-based, and you'll see results. Just be patient!" BIG NEWS! There are many more useful spaces beyond these three, and you can join as many as you like.Members of the DDD Community have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories streaming within the community platform, ad-free! You can even download them to your device and listen off-line. That’s just one reason to join. Visit ginstephens.com/community to join. Brooke Roberts

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Brooke Roberts from British Columbia.Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! In 2013, Brooke was diagnosed with a fatty acid oxidation disorder. Her creatine kinase levels were too high, which caused muscle break down. This meant Brooke could no longer enjoy the hiking, weightlifting, and dancing she loved. This also caused weight gain, and Brooke tried counting calories to fight back. She would restrict then binge, which led to even more weight gain. By the time she reached her highest weight in 2018, Brooke simply stopped caring.  After suffering a miscarriage the same year, she finally gave up. Brooke reflects, "self care went out the window."  Miraculously, Brooke was pregnant shortly thereafter, and the baby was premature. She spent six months with her son in the NICU.By the time she could bring him home, Brooke knew it was time to do something about her weight. She had heard about IF in passing, and did some research to learn more. She found Delay Don’t Deny, joined the Facebook groups, listened to the podcasts, and began her IF journey in September of 2020.  Brooke began with 16:8, and gradually worked up to 22:2 or 23:1. She has lost 72 pounds, and feels amazing. Her creatine kinase levels have remained in the healthy range, and she's able to exercise again! Brooke shares that she has a positive relationship with food, and feels "centered and grounded" in general. Brooke's advice: What you'll gain from IF is far more profound than the weight you'll lose. Commit to IF for at least 6 months. Be flexible, and know that IF is ever-changing.BIG NEWS! There are many more useful spaces beyond these three, and you can join as many as you like. Members of the DDD Community have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories streaming within the community platform, ad-free! You can even download them to your device and listen off-line. That’s just one reason to join.Visit ginstephens.com/community to join. Don Brown

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Don Brown from Park City, UT. Don is the founder and CEO of LifeOmic, developer of the LIFE Fasting app, the LIFE Extend app, and the upcoming LIFE Ascend app. And, he is an intermittent faster himself. Gin’s new book Clean(ish) is available for preorder! Don learned of IF after going back to school to study Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins. In his research for a class, Don stumbled upon Mark Mattson’s studies on how the brain and body respond to intermittent fasting. This led him down a path of learning all he could on the health benefits and science behind IF. In 2015, Don began his IF journey. He found it easy to adapt to this new lifestyle. Once Don's family and friends were also IFing, he wanted to find a way they could connect and share their daily fasts. In 2018, he created the LIFE app, which became available to the public soon after.  Don will practice intermittent fasting for the rest of his life because "it's free, easy, and pleasant!" His advice to others just beginning the IF lifestyle: "Go slow. Start with 12 hours, then build up. Think of IF as something you'll do for the rest of your life. Pick a window, and adopt a pattern. IF works!" BIG NEWS! There are many more useful spaces beyond these three, and you can join as many as you like. Members of the DDD Community have access to all episodes of Intermittent Fasting Stories streaming within the community platform, ad-free! You can even download them to your device and listen off-line. That’s just one reason to join. Visit ginstephens.com/community to join. Barbara DeLeo

In this episode of Intermittent Fasting Stories, Gin talks to Barbara DeLeo from New Zealand. The Delay, Don’t Deny community has a new home! Go to ginstephens.com/community to join. When we moved our community off of Facebook in March, we chose a platform that we thought would meet our needs and allow us to connect with each other in meaningful ways. Unfortunately, once we all got there, we realized the technology that looked so amazing on the back end actually didn’t function well when members arrived. Their technology was antiquated and simply didn’t work. Ouch. We knew the community deserved something better and immediately started looking for a solution. Well, we found exactly what we were looking for. The new community platform is easy to use, has the features our members asked for, it’s technologically stable (HOORAY!), and it already feels like home. So, if you tried out the Delay, Don’t Deny Social Network and found the technology to be clunky, we promise you won’t be disappointed with the new platform. Go to ginstephens.com/community to learn more and to join. Community has been such an important part of my journey. Join us, so we can be a part of yours. We can’t wait to meet you! Barbara DeLeo is a romance novelist. She shares that she did not struggle with weight until after college. She rigorously exercised, watched what she ate, and followed various diets, but nothing seemed to work. By the time she was fifty, Barbara was burned out from all the extreme workouts and diets. Through the years, Barbara had heard about IF, but thought it was crazy. But when friends encouraged her and her husband to try IF, she thought, "It’s the only thing I haven’t tried, so let's do it!" Barbara researched IF, found The IF Podcast, and listened to every episode! She read, Delay, Don't Deny and The Obesity Code. She dove right into the IF lifestyle, and has not looked back! Two years later, Barbara is down two dress sizes.  Barbara’s advice to new IFers: There’s no hurry with IF. It is a definite shift in thinking, and it will bring you freedom. Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including her New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Feast.
