#63: Mark Hodgkinson - CEO Scope charity
CEO Virgin Money, SVP Global Digital & Marketing EMI, Digital & Financial Services Director Asda, Group Marketing & Digital Director HMV, multiple Private Equity leadership / interim CEO roles covering Garden Centres, Care Homes and Restaurants.Mark has had a truly cross sector career leading transformations across financial services, media, retail, leisure, care, restaurants and now the charity sector. He loves driving an organisation with the customer / those you serve right at the centre – leading to impact, growth and turnaround. He always starts and ends with the customer at the heart of everything he does. It is easy when you are at the top, to start to assume you are the most important person in the organisation and to forget why you are there and who you are there to serve – your customers. Sectors often require strong technical expertise and Mark recognises that he can never be the lead expert, but he has become practised at asking the simple questions that people start to forget to ask and hopefully lead to new insights and innovation. One more thing he believes is central to being a good leader and that is the people. This has been a common theme across different sectors. A well-developed, engaged and agile team is far more valuable than one leader!TOP TIP: Always remember you are a customer sample of one!#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #Boards Hosted on Acast. #61: Lt General James Bashall - CB CBE
James Bashall brings a huge amount of leadership experience to this programme. He has spent much of his Army career on operations – 12 tours in all; and over 5 years overseas on operational service. Following 9/11 he took command of 2 PARA and led them on 3 successive operational tours to Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and Iraq in the space of 2.5 years. He then commanded a Mechanised Brigade in Basra during the most dangerous and violent period of the Iraq campaign. He also led a Joint Task Force into Libya in the early days of the Spring Uprising in order to extract UK citizens trapped by the civil war. He lives by the code of empowerment, trust and delegation. And his principal leadership tip is to know your people; and to understand what makes them tick as human beings, recognising that we are all different. He believes deeply in leading by example and being seen by those you command. He worries too many senior leaders over use social media; and have lost the touch of visiting in person to communicate directly.#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #Boards Hosted on Acast. #56: Maj. General Paul Nanson CB CBE - GOC Training & Recruiting
Paul has been on a leadership journey with the British Army for the past 34 years. He has served in a variety of roles and in a number of different environments. His most challenging have been on operations, from Northern Ireland to the Gulf, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan. His talk is about ‘leading in a crisis’ and the importance of the 3 ‘stages.’ First, ensuring you prepare yourself and your team for that crisis before it hits – ensuring resilience. Second, how you respond to the crisis as a leader – how you give direction and hope. And lastly, how you recover from the crisis, caring for your people and learning the lessons – resetting for the next one! Leadership is about the journey and how you learn and develop. We never stop learning, as this current crisis is showing us all too clearly. Faced with unprecedented challenge, your people will follow you, not just because of your rank or position in the company, but because they believe in you. That takes hard work, dedication and trust – not the product of a 3-day course.#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #Boards Hosted on Acast. #55: Andreas Utermann - CEO Allianz Global Investors
In a career spanning over 35 years, Andreas rose from being a banking apprentice at Deutsche Bank and graduate trainee at SG Warburg, to CEO of Allianz Global Investors, a role he relinquished on 1st January, 2020. He is currently Advisor to the firm. Andreas’s core beliefs and leadership principles were born of his life experience: Born in Belgium of German immigrant parents, losing his father suddenly at barely 12 years of age; gaining 2 years' work experience after his Baccalaureate and before University studies, having to work every day to finance these; immigrating to the UK and building a career with no contacts there. Andreas had no real career plan – rather he was keen to work in an environment that furthered intellectual curiosity, interacting with interesting people and a maximum of individual freedom. Building on his personal experience, Andreas led by example and built and environment of trust, based on integrity, mutual respect and the concept that decisions, however difficult, needed to be seen as ‘fair’. He is particularly proud of that fact that no-one who ever worked for him directly resigned from their position.#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #Boards Hosted on Acast.
