David is a business leader and mentor and served 30 years in the British Army, including four tours with Special Forces. He ended his military career at Sandhurst where he was responsible for redesigning leadership training based on his operational experience and was credited with the biggest change to the Sandhurst course since the Second World War. With knowledge gained from his MBA at Cranfield University, he created a modern learning culture at Sandhurst that prioritised the learners’ needs over those of the institution. James was a soldier for 30 years. He joined as a private soldier in 1982. After Oxford and Sandhurst, he commissioned into The Black Watch in 1987. Aside from regimental duty, he served in the MOD with responsibility for planning the Kosovo operation and was MA1/CGS from before 9/11 until the invasion of Iraq.He commanded The Black Watch in Iraq in 2004 during fighting in Basra, and later for the battle for Fallujah. He was back in Iraq in 2006‐07 for Operation SINBAD.In 2007 he set up 11 Brigade, and took command of Task Force Helmand, serving in Afghanistan in 2009‐10. He was subsequently Head of Counter Terrorism planning the Olympic security operation. From financial services to schools to charities, for nearly 15 years, William has been leading organisations from a vast range of sectors. Moulding to fit the sector you lead is a core principle of William’s leadership, recognising that what works in business, does not necessarily work for leading public sector organisations. After graduating from the University of Reading, Richard became a commercial developer with John Laing Property in 1999 and then Kier Property. In 2005 he moved to a private family office where he led the business through the aftermath of the 2008 GFC, generating a 50% increase in portfolio value and reduction in gearing by 30% over 8 years. He is now managing director of Martin’s Properties, a privately owned property company with a prestigious multi-sector portfolio and core assets in Chelsea. He is embarking on an ambitious strategy to substantially grow the business over the next 5 years. Richard is a team orientated leader who tries to lead through inspiration and example. He is highly driven and competitive, as evidenced by recent ultra-marathon challenges! He believes leaders have a responsibility to get the best out of people and that teams need clear goals and focus.
