This week on the show, the great Paul Hebert guest hosts and welcomes Derek Irvine, Vice President Client Strategy and Consulting for Globoforce, and author of 'Winning With a Culture of Recognition', for a look at how culture impacts organizational performance.
Culture and culture management have had increased attention in the last few years as an important driver of employee engagement and company performance. This week on the show Paul and Derek will take a closer look at culture and discuss topics around -
What is company culture?
Can company culture be defined and managed?
What is proactive culture management?
Does culture really 'beat' strategy as we often hear?
What companies really understand this and are doing a great job with culture management?
Culture is always a lively topic on the show and this week I hope you can join Paul and Derek for what will surely be an interesting and informative show.

This week the HR Happy Hour Show goes a bit 'inside baseball' so to speak, with an examination and conversation about the state of the HR blogosphere; the increasing amount of activity, participation, and possible noise in the online HR space; and a look at whether or not all this activity, content creation, and energy expenditure is having an impact on the day-to-day practice of HR and Talent Management in organizations.
Social and participatory technologies have created more forums for the creation and propagation of news, opinion, insight, and quite honestly promotion and advertising, that it seems like not a minute of the day goes by without a new blog post being published, a webinar being given, or a series of hashtag-indicated live tweets from one of the newly created grass-roots gatherings.
But are the HR bloggers/speakers/social mavens having an impact in the real world of HR?
Are we really just saying lots of similar things to a discrete and committed audience?
Is the sheer volume making it impossible to keep up, and to discover the real value and insights being created and shared in the space?
Join guests Kris Dunn, John Sumser, and guest co-host Trish McFarlane with host Steve Boese for a look at the state of the online HR world. I hope you can join us!

This week on the HR Happy Hour Show we dive into the New Year, at least in the USA, thinking quite a bit about politics. The campaign for President is in full swing, debates, press conferences, and TV ads are everywhere, and ceratinly 2012 is shaping up to be a very interesting year.
Do you care about the political campaigns? Do they impact your work in HR and effect your organizations? Do you stay away from talking about 'real' politics at work and keep the focus on office politics? Can we learn anything from savvy politicians to help us navigate our own careers?
We will have open lines this week on the show to talk politics, office politics, and whatever else 2012 has in store for you, for HR, and in your careers.
Joining me on the show will be special guest Trish McFarlane, from HR Ringleader and HRevolution who will also be updating us on what is happening with her projects and ventures, as well as offering some insight on HR leadership challenges for 2012.
It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

Our long national nightmare is finally over. No, I am not talking about the Republican campaign for the Presidential nomination, but the NBA lockout that for a time flirted with the disastrous cancellation of the 2011-2012 NBA season.
Now that the labor issues are settled, and (most of) the wheeling and dealing is done, the National Basketball Association is set to embark upon its season with a full slate of marquee games on Christmas day.
And since the Association represents probably the most interesting, compelling, and downright fun set of characters, storylines, and athletes in professional sports today, the HR Happy Hour show in partnership with The 8 Man Rotation, (Kris Dunn, Tim Sackett, Matt Stollak, Lance Haun, Steve Boese), will devote the final show of 2011 to a full-on, no lame attempts to tie sports back to work or HR, preview of the upcoming season.
What will the late start, short training camps, and compressed schedule mean for the league? What teams made the sharpest moves in the off season? What clubs are ready to win now? What teams might just surprise this year? What players are on the decline and who is on the rise?
The teams, the players, and the predictions for 2012 - you will hear it all and more on the HR Happy Hour Show this week.
The NBA - this week on the HR Happy Hour. It will be a fun departure for the show this week and I hope you will join us!

This week on the show we will welcome our friends from TLNT.com, Editor John Hollon and contributing writer Ron Thomas to the show to talk about the fast approaching TLNT 'Transform' conference coming up in Feb. 2012.
The 'Transform' event is brand new, and chances are you might not be aware of how this first TLNT event aims to create an exciting and engaging opportunity for HR leaders and professionals. So we will talk about the event, the ideas behind what makes an Human Resources event valuable, and what people can expect from TLNT Transform.
Also, we will look back on the year of 2011, from a HR and workplace perspective. What themes, stories, events really shaped the year, and how might things look in 2012.
The TLNT crew is always on top of things, so it should be a fun and interesting show and I hope you can join us.

It used to be that technologies were invented and popularized first in giant organizations or in large research labs, before these new inventions and ideas could begin to influence and impact the private citizen. Access to information and computing power tended to be scarce, expensive, and protected.
Fast forward to today, where the internet, mobile access, social networks and other factors have combined to shift the flow of technological change and progress. Now, individuals have access to tools, networks, ideas, and each other in unprecedented ways, and in a manner that is changing the way we work, and the way the HR organization of the future will have to support their companies.
Joining us to tackle these questions will be Yvette Cameron from Constellation Research with insights from Constellation’s latest research and their ongoing investigation of the Future of Work and its impact on people, processes and technologies.
It should be a fun show and I hope you can join us!

The 'Occupy' protests have seemingly taken root beyond their humble start in NYC protesting against the perception of Wall St. greed and excess, and have begun to morph into something bigger, more fundamental, and potentially more meaningful that anyone originally would have thought.
What do these protests have to do with Human Resources and the workforce? Well, plenty - shrinking job prospects and stagnant wage growth for the '99%' are a key element in these protests.
But at the same time, many people, including HR pros feel like the Occupiers are simply spoiled and feeling entitled. They want them to get out of the park and go get a job.
This week on the HR Happy Hour Show we are having an open forum for the HR and Talent community to share their views on the 'Occupy' movement, and hopefully to have some constructive dialogue on what we can all do to help turn things around.
So this is your chance, loyal HR Happy Hour listeners, to get off the backchannel for a minute and join the conversation on the show.
No guests, no specific agenda, no rules - just an open conversation about the 'Occupy' movement, the lingering problems of unemployement and the stagnation of real income for most Americans, and the ways that organizations and HR professionals can make a difference for good.
It should be a fun show and I hope you will join us - and call in!
