Rookie Fatherhood For ALL Men

I was talking to my 15 year old son and he asked me what being a father was like. I responded: You remember what the first day of school was like for you? All of the uncertainty, not knowing who your classmates would be, what the teachers would be like, if you would like your schedules. I then said, that is kinda what being a dad is like, but on a daily basis. After 4 boys, it feels like that for me. I am as much of a rookie dad as the guy who's wife is expecting right now. My guest today, Kendall Smith is the author of the best-selling book, "Rookie Father", which provides succinct advice and is actionable across a range of different topics that can relate to being a great father, husband, role model, etc. Kendall has been married for 17 years and has an 8 year old son. His literally work covers a range of matters, including thrillers and even political satire. Show Notes:www.thedadedge.com/friday43

And in June of 2021 comedy dynamics released Chris's new special Chris Gethard, half of my life, a hybrid tour documentary and stand up show shot in a variety of DIY spaces and independent venues all over the country. He is a father and husband. I really enjoyed this conversation with Chris and I think you will as well. Show notes: thedadedge.com/361

If I Could Give My Younger Self Advice with Larry Hagner

Many of the Dad Edge podcast listeners have reached out and told me that they'd like to know more about my story. In this episode, I share more about my story and not only that, but things like, what have I learned throughout my life. 15 years as a father, 19 years of marriage, and for me, the premise of the show is, if I could go back and do things differently based on what I have learned, what would those things be? We go into a few different directions such as how to overcome adversity, and learning to ask yourself the right questions. I talk about raising young men and what I have done wrong, but also how I am doing things differently now. Show Notes: thedadedge.com/friday41

Overcoming Pandora's Porn Box to Thrive in Life

I have no doubt that today's title really got your attention. Yup. We are opening up Pandora's box and we are talking about this topic and that is porn. porn is one of the most, if not the most addictive thing that a man deals with in his life. This is a topic that men have to feel pretty darn safe to bring up because there's a lot of feelings that come up when we talk about porn:shame, guilt, weakness It's all these things that we label ourselves as and we certainly don't want to have the conversation, but given the right environment, we can have these conversations. When we open up the conversation, we take away the taboo and when you take away the taboo, you actually take away the power that this particular addiction has over us. This is a replay of a podcast I was on called From Porn to Purpose. You will hear me share a story that I have not shared on any podcast, but as I said, given the right environment, one can open up, and that is why I was able to bring it up and be open with you men.
