Using the Past to Become a Better Dad with former NFL Player Billy Miller
Today we are psyched to have Former NFL player and Superbowl Champion Billy Miller on The Dad Edge Podcast. Most of the time we only see sports stars on the field or getting interviewed after the game. They have to give their camera-ready answers about the team's performance, but rarely do we see the husband, the father, or the man behind the athlete. In this episode, Billy Miller opens up his world to us. He delves into his rough childhood as the son of two drug addicts, his battle against depression, and how he uses his difficult past as a reference to become the best dad he can possibly be. He also talks about maintaining a circle of intimate friends, co-parenting with his ex-wife, and how he keeps work separate from his family. 3 Seconds to Not Losing It with Your Kids

What does that mean for us dads? As men, we are thrown so many things each day. Keeping up with work, finances, and family can be exhausting. It's easy to become irritable and susceptible to knee jerk reactions, especially when our kids don't listen to us. We usually yell and shout, and then feel terrible. In this episode, I teach you how to use three seconds to create a mental space in your mind and use questions to give your kid a choice to obey. How to Arm Our Kids Against Peer Pressure
As kids get older, the more they are susceptible to peer pressure and the riskier the things they may be pressured into become. The statistics are frightening, with 35% of all 14-year-olds trying some kind of illegal drug before their 15th birthday. How can we arm our kids against peer pressure so that they will be able to make the right choices when we are not there to guide them? By practicing role play in advance, we arm our kids with the tools needed to deflect peer pressure. In this short episode, I interview my 11-year-old Ethan who has been experiencing peer pressure. We role a play a few scenarios of peer pressure to practice what he can say when other kids are trying to get him to do something he knows is wrong. How to Do a Failure Analysis with Your Child
Today I have a very special guest on for an unscripted show. Meet my 10-year-old son Mason. He is in 4th grade and his favorite sport is wrestling. He loved wrestling during the first two years because he had great success. In his third year, he got a new coach, learned new moves, and was moved into a new wrestling bracket. He lost all his matches that season and was devastated. Mason and I are going to go over how he felt when he won and lost, what to do with those feelings, and how to learn from both winning and losing. This will give an example of how to do a failure analysis with your child so that you can instill the growth mindset that will help them triumph through all life's ups and downs.
