Satellite images of Mariupol appear to show rows of mass graves. Russian soldiers are accused of burying the bodies of countless civilians including women and children. Mariupol's mayor is calling it evidence of war crimes. In the east, heavy fighting is reported in Donetsk and Luhansk. Evacuation attempts were interrupted by Russian shelling. Meanwhile, Ukraine's finance minister is in Washington for talks. Later in today's show we discuss what the country needs, who he singles out for their ongoing support, and why Ukraine will never surrender. An appeal to the world for help

The last Ukrainian soldiers in Mariupol, sheltered in a steel plant surrounded by Russian forces, allow another deadline to surrender to expire and remain adamant they will not give in. The commander of Ukrainian forces there sent this message: "This is our statement to the world, and it may be our last statement, and maybe we have a few days or hours left. The enemy's units are ten times larger than ours, and they have supremacy in the air and on the ground, and they have tanks, and we are appealing to the world's leaders to help us." "No safe places left"

"No safe places left." Those are the words of a Ukrainian official in the eastern city of Luhansk, who says Russia is "shelling everywhere." He accused Russian soldiers of opening fire on people escaping in a car, killing four. And officials in nearby Kreminna say their city has been lost to Russians carrying huge amounts of equipment. Meanwhile, in Mariupol the resistance continues after troops rejected Russian demands to lay down their weapons or be "eliminated." And in Lviv in western Ukraine, which has mostly been spared from violence until now, Russian missile strikes killed seven people and injured 11 others. CNN's Matt Rivers is in Lviv and begins today's coverage. To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. Premier Russian warship out of action

The flagship of the Russian Black Sea fleet was damaged and its crew evacuated. Russian state media say a fire broke out, but the Ukrainians are taking credit, saying it was targeted by anti-ship missiles. Meanwhile, 800 kilometers north in the Kharkiv region, images released by the Ukrainian government reportedly show a bridge that was blown up as Russian military vehicles were crossing. Ukraine says armored cars and trucks were destroyed in the attack. CNN's Matt Rivers reports on these latest developments from Lviv.To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy Learn more about your ad choices. The battle for east Ukraine begins

Kharkiv and the surrounding areas are under attack. Satellite images show an eight-mile long convoy just outside the Ukrainian city consisting of armored vehicles and trucks with towed artillery and support equipment. Meanwhile, in Moscow, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer has been meeting with Vladimir Putin following weekend talks with Volodymyr Zelensky.
