Tech Intersect #11: Anne T. Griffin-The Business Value of Diverse Voices in Web 3.0 Product Management

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode, I welcome Anne T. Griffin, a human and product manager, in that order (as she says), who studied engineering at the University of Michigan. She is passionate about the human aspects of technology and building machine learning and AI products rooted in the realities of the human experience. She is also an Emerging Tech Correspondent for Tech2025, a platform and community for learning about, and discussing emerging technologies such as AI. Tech2025, incidentally, company founded by another Tech Intersect Guest, Charlie Oliver—so listen to ep 4 to hear my conversation with Charlie about the future of technology. Anne’s current focus is on exploring what "fairness" means at a product level and how teams can integrate empathy and awareness of the impact of bias into the creative and development process. She has worked with major companies such as Microsoft, Mercedes-Benz, American Express, Comcast, and Colgate-Palmolive. So her background and expertise make her uniquely qualified for the work she does today. Anne shares her origin story, thoughts on some of the most promising technologies in the Web 3.0 build, the most pressing challenges and concerns about bias in the build of Web 3.0. We talk also talk solutions and the imperative for inclusion to ensure there are diverse people with diverse perspectives and talents at the laptop as we usher in the fourth industrial revolution. **Rate This Podcast** Guest social assets:  Twitter: https://twitter.com/annetgriffinWeb: https://www.annetgriffin.com/Email: ANNE@ANNETGRIFFIN.COM Mentions: Tonl: https://tonl.co/ (stock images reflecting POC)Episode 4 with Charlie Oliver of Tech 2025: https://share.transistor.fm/s/42b73883Full Show Notes: https://techintersectpodcast.com/listen/episodes-shownotes/**Watch the mental health and wealth expert Anthony Ware Ask Me Anything (AMA) Replay** Contact:Questions and requests: hello@techintersectpodcast.com Follow: Twitter @AtTechIntersect Instagram @TechIntersect Web: http://www.TechIntersectPodcast.com Subscribe to the Triple L Weekly: http://eepurl.com/gKqDyP (early episode access + info)Want early access to episodes, exclusive content including full show notes, live video chats and replays, a copy of my e-book, The Gen Xers Guide to Upskilling for a Web 3.0 World and self-guided course of the same name? Tech Intersect #10: Chris Odinet-Alternative Data & Bias in AI-based Consumer Lending

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode of Tech Intersect, I welcome Professor Christopher K. Odinet to discuss his recent work in crypto lending and consumer data that explores the potentially discriminatory impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning on fintech lending. We talk about consumer lending, inclusion and social impact as Web 3.0 technologies like AI and machine learning usher in tech companies that act more like banks engaging in more banking-like things than pure tech companies do, especially for small unsecured consumer loans. The reason? Household debt is higher today than it has ever been in history (mortgage, car, student loans). The borrowed amounts tend to be lower even though household incomes are up. FinTech lenders are providing small dollar, short term loans to make middle American ends meet. And while some define “middle class” by income and others by lifestyle, perhaps another definition involves access to credit that often leads to a lifetime of debt. A stranglehold for most people trying to live the American dream. And huge, evergreen profits for tech companies getting into the lending business for unsecured, personal consumer loans. Questions persist, about how the law should deal with the problems these newcomers experience that might be similar to the issues that banks deal with and, because it isn’t all doom and gloom, how these tech companies might be different. Tune in and tweet me @AtTechIntersect so we can listen, learn and leverage together. Chris Odinet is an associate professor of law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law and is an affiliate faculty member with the Tom E. Love Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development in the University of Oklahoma Price College of Business.  **Rate This Podcast**Guest Social Assets:Twitter: @ChrisOdinet Web: https://www.law.ou.edu/directory/christopher-odinetProfessor Odinet’s book: Foreclosed: Mortgage Servicing and the Hidden Architecture of Homeownership in America (Cambridge University Press 2019) About FICO: https://www.fico.com/en/about-us About Vantage: https://www.vantagescore.com/Full Show Notes: https://techintersectpodcast.com/listen/episodes-shownotes/**Watch the mental health and wealth expert Anthony Ware Ask Me Anything (AMA) Replay** Contact:Questions and requests: hello@techintersectpodcasRegulate & The Rabbit Hole by Notty Prod licensed via Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Tech Intersect #7: Alan Silberberg-Bots, Blockchain and the Politics of Cyber Attacks

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode of the Tech Intersect™ Podcast, Tonya speaks with cybersecurity expert, and Digijaks founder and CEO, Alan W. Silberberg. Alan has a 25-year background in national politics and technology. He was even instrumental in analyzing the Democratic National Convention email hack that led to the Wikileaks release of 44,053 emails and 17,761 attachments from the top of the US DNC. He speaks and advises on the dangers of social media being used for propaganda and has written dozens of articles about weaponized information, which he also writes about in his book, Bots Against US: The Ongoing Information War Against the United States. This topic is especially relevant in this 2020 election cycle. It’s also a topic I speak about in the Elect Tech 2020 session at South by Southwest 2020 in Austin.  Every person, government and businesses is at risk of falling victim to a cyberattack. And, as Alan explains, security on the internet of things is completely non-existent. And then there’s the threat to our political system with coordinated political propaganda bots working to create instability in the US elections and the political system at large. Time to listen, learn and leverage™. Guest social assets: Twitter: @IdeaGovWeb: digijaks.comBuy Bots Against US, by Alan W. Tech Intersect #6: Anthony Ware-Helping Founders Balance Mental Health and Wealth

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode, I chat with entrepreneur and mental health and wealth expert, Anthony Ware. Anthony’s business, Aware Catalysts, focuses on—among other things— a program called Founder Mental Wealth, which helps underestimated and underrepresented entrepreneurs to decrease burnout and improve business outcomes. His mission is to help create a world of new generational wealth: mind, body, spirit, time, and money. Anthony shares a lot of wisdom in this episode in addition to his touching origin story and also his important evolution story from his original mindset that money = stuff = happiness to a more grounded focus on how a founder’s emotional well being drives culture and that drives long-term mental and financial wins or challenges.  Mental and emotional challenges, certainly experienced by all founders, are experienced even more acutely by those who are underrepresented and marginalized. I will drop a link in the full show notes to the report Anthony and I discussed and also provide other resources to support founders in the journey toward mental health and financial freedom.  We leave you with some lifework. Make a list, make a plan, and then execute that plan by making sure you always pay yourself FIRST. Not just with bank deposits but with mental WEALTH deposits. Twitter: @TheAnthonyWare Founder Mental Wealth Report 2019  Full Show Notes: https://techintersectpodcast.com/listen/**Watch Anthony's Ask Me Anything (AMA) Chat Session Replay**Contact:Questions and requests: hello@techintersectpodcast.com Follow: Twitter @AtTechIntersect Instagram @TechIntersect Web: http://www.TechIntersectPodcast.com Subscribe to the Triple L Weekly: http://eepurl.com/gKqDyP (early episode access + info) Want early access to episodes, exclusive content including full show notes, live video chats and replays, a copy of my e-book, The Gen Xers Guide to Upskilling for a Web 3.0 World and self-guided course of the same name? Subscribe to Advantage Evans™ Plus, Advantage Evans Premium™ or Advantage Evans Pro™If you like my content and want to support my efforts, you can buy me a coffee and share your thoughts 🎉☕   Rapternal Music (Regulate and Regulate & The Rabbit Hole by Notty Prod licensed via Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Tech Intersect #3: Andreas Antonopoulos-Bitcoin for the other 6 Billion and Amplifying Inclusion in Blockchain

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode, I speak with Andreas Antonopoulos, a best-selling author, speaker, educator, and one of the world’s foremost bitcoin and open blockchain experts. He is known for delivering electric talks that combine economics, psychology, technology, and game theory with current events, personal anecdote, and historical precedent effortlessly transliterating the complex issues of blockchain technology out of the abstract and into the real world. We covered at a high level, what blockchain is and, as the first application of blockchain technology, what Bitcoin is and the history of digital cash that predates Bitcoin. We also covered how crypto is regulated by the code itself and how crypto protocols are “rules without rulers”, why Bitcoin has endured for over ten years, the difference between public systems like Bitcoin and private systems like Facebook’s LibraCoin, tokenizing real world assets and the role that cryptocurrencies will have for “the other 6 billion” people in the world who do not currently benefit from the financial status quo. Finally, Andreas and I discussed a recent tweet storm in response to his “intentionally provocative” tweet inviting suggestions for diverse podcasts to appear on in the blockchain space after being dismayed by the number of  "white, American man in finance" suggestions he’d already received to an earlier inquiry. He shared his insights on race, gender, the myth of meritocracy and what he describes as the “dominance of the mediocre” in the crypto ecosystem. In the end, he accomplished his goal. To find podcasts like Tech Intersect to engage in conversation about the past, present, and hope for cryptocurrencies and open blockchains. This episode is sure to provoke lots of thought and conversation. Guest social assets: Twitter: https://twitter.com/aantonopYoutube: https://youtube.com/aantonopWebsite: https://aantonop.com/ Andreas’ Books:The Internet of Money, by Andreas Antonopoulos: https://amzn.to/2rGtoDu The Internet of Money: Volume 2, Andreas Antonopoulos: https://amzn.to/35b9vSM Full Show Notes: https://techintersectpodcast.com/listen/**Watch the latest Ask Me Anything (AMA) Replay**Contact:Questions and requests: hello@techintersectpodcast.com Follow: Twitter @AtTechIntersect InstagRegulate & The Rabbit Hole by Notty Prod licensed via Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Tech Intersect #2: Mike McCann: Publicity Rights in Collegiate Sports and Crypto in the Pros

Kudos, Questions, Comments? Send it here.In this episode, Sports Illustrated legal analyst and contributor, Professor Mike McCann, and I discuss how pro athletes like NBA star, Spencer Dinwiddie of the Brooklyn Nets, is leveraging his earning potential by issuing a cryptocurrency (PaINT) via the Ethereum Network’s blockchain to tokenize his earnings and engage fans and investors directly. We also talked about when and how scholarship-athletes might actually benefit financially from their name, image and likeness. Given trailblazers like college basketball star, Ed O’Bannon, the mega millions that schools make off the backs of the athletes who compete under their names, and the rising public support for these athletes to receive some type of economic benefit, we conclude that it’s not a matter of if but when college scholarship athletes truly and meaningfully participate in the upside of the value they generate for schools and the NCAA. As a former scholarship athlete and former professional tennis player, this topic is near and dear to my heart. Guest social assets: Twitter @McCannSportsLawCourt Justice: The Inside Story of My Battle with the NCAA, by Ed O’Bannon and Michael McCannThe Oxford Handbook of American Sports Law, by Michael McCann Full Show Notes: https://techintersectpodcast.com/listen/episodes-shownotes/**Watch the latest Ask Me Anything (AMA) Replay**Contact:Questions and requests: hello@techintersectpodcast.com Follow: Twitter @AtTechIntersect Instagram @TechIntersect Web: http://www.TechIntersectPodcast.com Subscribe to the Triple L Weekly: http://eepurl.com/gKqDyP (early episode access + info)Want early access to episodes, exclusive content including full show notes, live video chats and replays, a copy of my e-book, The Gen Xers Guide to Upskilling for a Web 3.0 World and self-guided course of the same name?
