“The key is using stress and adapting to it and improving. That’s what high performance is to me, the ability to adapt rapidly so you can achieve your potential. There are five key pillars to creating the conditions for adaptability: sleep, exercise, mental resilience, nutrition, and community/relationships.” - Dr. Erik Korem
“I maybe have a different concept on leadership. To me, leading is a verb. If you’re leading, you’re a leader. If you’re swimming you’re a swimmer, if you’re driving you’re a driver. If you’re leading you’re by definition a leader. I define leading as being looked to in a particular moment to make a decision or perform an action based on your unique gifts and abilities. So by that definition, everybody is a leader. All rank and role really describe is how many people are hoping you get it right when it’s your turn to wear the weight.” - Clint Bruce
"Attention is the currency of performance." - Dr. Peter Haberl
“That’s what I’ve discovered in the lives of brilliant, prolific, healthy creatives, is that they have networks of people they leverage in the course of their work. That they learn from, that they were challenged by, that they gave great insight and purview into their own life and work, in such a way that they were able to receive feedback that helped them get better at what they do.” - Todd Henry
"Restful and fulfilling sleep enables you to grow, adapt, and thrive. It creates the conditions for adaptation, so you can pursue audacious goals and thrive in uncertainty." - Dr. Erik Korem
"Most exercise programs fail, not because the reps and sets are poorly designed, but because the program doesn't adjust for how much stress your body can adapt to that day!. That's why Dr. Chris Morris' research and practical application of fluid periodization is the key for unlocking your performance potential." - Dr. Erik Korem

The Science of Self-Talk: How You Can Rewire Your Brain for Success by Overcoming A Negative Mindset & Boosting Your Confidence with Andy Riise
Mental Toughness Expert, Presidential Leadership Scholar, Renown Speaker, and Coach, Lieutenant Colonel Andy Riise (Ret) helps reshape our intrinsic and external motivation for goal and habit setting with accountability, preparation, and execution. His vast experience in sports, performance psychology, and behavioral science gives us a mental checklist using a strengths-based approach to win the battle between our ears so we can consistently take action to achieve our goals. And that narrative, that writing that happens is our self-talk, or what do we say to ourselves? And some research shows that we have about 66,000 independent thoughts in a day.” 17:11 “So if you think about our thoughts, they're constantly flowing like a river. Think about the undercurrent of our subconscious thoughts and 90% of how we think. It's subconscious. We're not aware of it. 10% of those thoughts are on the surface. So how do those thoughts manifest in our own conscious minds? Well, it's the self-taught piece, right? 17:30 “If we can understand how we talk to ourselves, and we understand that some studies show that 80% of our self-talk is negative, that becomes a self-fulfilling process. So you think about if I have negative self-talk, I'm essentially undermining everything that I do.” 19:45 “If you're aware of your thoughts, you then are more likely to then be able to change what your thoughts are.” 28:42 “But if you're intentionally repping out that self-talk, that again, moves things from the conscious to the subconscious, right? So now when I'm responding to situations where I don't have time to think, now I've changed the neural structure in terms of what my response and what my talk is, and that narrative will affect change. But the only way you can change those neural pathways is through deliberate practice.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. Drawing from his experience as a Harvard instructor, bestselling author, and leadership advisor, Gallo emphasizes that great communicators are made, not born. He offers invaluable communication strategies and tips that focus on the critical pillars of simplicity, clarity, and precision, enabling anyone to improve their communication skills. The first thing he said is, Carmine, you've gotta dig into those shareholder letters. He said, those letters should be taught to every business student in the country. And then he added, if I were 20 years younger, I'd teach the class myself.” 3:08 “Writing and communication is a skill. And like any skill. You can sharpen it with time. It can be developed over time. So I like to say that great communicators are made not born. Like any skill, you can improve. Jeff Bezos certainly did. If you look at the first 10 years of letters that he wrote about Amazon, they kind of scored around a 10th-grade level, some college level, so they were a little confusing, but they had some really great words of wisdom.” 4:20 “Whether it's writing, public speaking, giving presentations, anything that has to do with leadership and communication, we can all get better at it. We can all improve.” 6:08 “Use short words to talk about hard things. As Amazon grew in complexity, as Amazon added more than a million employees and got into cloud computing and artificial intelligence, the writing that Bezos did grew shorter and simpler.” 8:33 “Because we're overthinking it. We have to sound smart. Well, that, I guess means using longer words. And yet the counterintuitive secret of success is the more confident you are and the better you understand a concept, you're more likely to simplify it for your audience. It's counterintuitive, but I think it's a very powerful concept that anyone can use.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. I was put on double-digit medication labeled with 30-plus disabilities and told that I was basically gonna be a vegetable for the rest of my life. And today, I'm performing as good, if not better, than my pre-injury status. 3:20 “So, that's the story here, is that an individual can return to life and actually be able to have the energy and the foresight to identify what it is they want to do with their life and pursue it in the way that they want to, whatever that means for the individual.” 8:36 ”Now, the unique thing about that is the guys in the [special operations] community, they're screened specifically to be psychologically and emotionally resilient. You know, in addition to their physical and intellectual capabilities."15.26 “So, I'm experiencing this now what I thought was a psychologically weak or emotionally weak individual's problem, right? Tough people don't experience this. So that's why I just, I couldn't wrap my head around it.” 20:42” What's happening is the brain is being jarred, as Andrew said, back and forth left and right, and every time it gets jarred, it creates a scenario to produce what's called inflammation. And the inflammation has a name for it, which are called cytokines. It's part of our immune system."21:54 “Without melatonin, you can't sleep, and in one hundred percent of Veterans in the military population, we see they have three classical, one hundred percent symptoms, fatigue, insomnia, and depression. And that's all due to that inflammation cutting off these chemicals that are produced.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health. Okay, that's a bunch of psycho-babble. So let's get a practical street definition. Mental toughness is getting the most out of what you have to be at your best when it matters the most.” 01:16 “The four Cs of mental toughness are confidence, control, commitment, and challenge. And there's two-step factors for each of those. There's actually a valid and reliable psychometric tool that I use in my athletes, business leaders, and people in healthcare. So those four Cs are really the four elements that make up your mental toughness profile. 03:46 “Mental toughness is a combination of playing psychological defense, which is resilience and mental performance with psychological offense. You bring those together, you get a really good championship combination.” 5:36 “The first step of being a better thermostat is the thermometer, which is self-awareness and you also have to be aware of outside of myself, which is my environment and other people and how they affect me. So it's inside out and outside in terms of my ability to be able to read myself. My internal temperature and the temperature outside of myself.” 7:22 “We haven't developed the coping skills over and allowed our kids to then be able to make mistakes and learn and experiment and fail. We protect them. We wanna make things easier for the next generation. And in some ways, we do them a disservice.” ABOUT THE BLUEPRINT PODCAST: The BluePrint Podcast is for busy professionals and Household CEOs who care deeply about their families, career, and health.
