But this time it is not being done in the name of stability or democracy, but to directly benefit Vladimir Putin, one of the worst dictators seen in recent history, who is directly conflict in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of his own people, never mind all of Ukraine’s losses. Let’s set the background. We are all familiar with the ambush in the oval office, and the orchestrated humiliated of Zelenskyy in the full glare of the world’s media. What some people have been paying less attention to is the constant repetition of Russian talking points, not only by Trump and Vance, but also by Tulsi Gabbard, Cash Patel, Rubio and many others. “Peace is not Zelenskyy’s priority”, Gabbard says. “President Zelenskyy has different aims in mind.” What dark lies she is hinting at, we can only guess. The Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sharply criticized Zelenskyy’s leadership of his country. Of course, they always position President Donald Trump as “working to end Russia’s war”, but all the evidence of his actions suggest that all his efforts are focused on helping Russia to gain advantage on the battlefields and in the so-called negotiations. “President Trump is committed to peace and to freedom,” Gabbard told Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday.” “We’re seeing this big divergence here between his position, his commitment to these values and the interests of the American people and the interests of President Zelenskyy and these European leaders.” Black is white. Up is down. Day is night. Edition No105 | 03-03-2025 - Is this clickbait? Is this Trump bashing, or TDS as some refer to it – Trump Derangement Syndrome. No, this is a cold analysis of what just happened in the Oval Office, and what its implications are for geopolitics and finding a way to end the war against Ukraine. Curiously over the last weeks I have been called a Trump appeaser in numerous comments, and in about the same volume, accused of loathing Trump and being irrationally opposed to him. This is the problem with his ‘fire-hose of falsehoods’ strategy to flood the zone, fill the media with sound and fury – ultimately it is obscuring the significance, the meaning of events, and masks the strategy behind the word salad. And there is a strategy. There definitely is, even though there is no clear or consistent plan from day to day to execute upon it. Let’s lay my cards down now – the strategy is to end the war on Putin’s terms, because in Trump’s mind, might makes right, and he perceives Putin to be the stronger player. That means that Trump does not have a magic formula to end the war. He has not found some miraculous way to align the demands of Putin and needs Ukraine, because these are irreconcilable in their maximalist states. No, he expects Zelenskyy to capitulate, and for Russia to make no meaningful concessions. Capitulation and the evisceration of Ukraine is the only outcome of a process dictated by Trump. Edition No104 | 01-03-2025 - After watching the car crash presser in the Oval Office, it’s easier to think this was a disaster for Zelenskyy and personally for Ukraine. But this may not be the case – that’s the theme we’ll unpack in this episode. But before we do, it’s worth remembering that when you combine last week’s tirade of abuse by Trump and Co of Zelenskyy and Ukraine with what’s happened yesterday, it’s potentially extremely distressful and re-traumatizing for Ukrainians. The treatment of that country and its people by the US administration amount of victim blaming and abuse. We must remember, as Zelenskyy said, this is not a game of cards, but a terrifying reality where many Ukrainians are at daily risk of being killed, and all will know friends and family who are servicing, or lost in combat, missing or tortured, raped, abducted. Things are moving fast, and after this has been recorded much could change. But it seems that in a move of extraordinary petulance, Trump is threatening to pause all aid to Ukraine, including assistance to rebuild its shattered energy grid. Such a reaction would lead to deaths, avoidable death. It would be a murderous set of decisions. But if Trump is prepared to burn bridges after one confrontation, it does suggest that his turnaround in support of Ukraine had extremely shallow roots. And indeed, as the press event descended into vitriolic chaos, Trump and Vance instantly reverted to spewing Kremlin talking points. Weaponized narratives that are utterly false, demeaning and triggering for any Ukrainian who is facing Russian violence. Having said that – and I will break down further what seemed to be a premeditated ambush by Vance, we must examine Zelenskyy’s performance. Most of the comments are sympathetic of his position, and the fact he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Of course, in an ideal world, due consideration would be given to his status as a war leader and the immense stress he is under. But this was not a normal situation.
