A little birdie told us you were looking for a new episode of our Breakfast All Day podcast, so we whipped one up for you (and whistled a happy tune while we did it). We have a full slate of reviews for you this time. "Snow White" is the big movie of the week: the latest live-action reimagining of a Disney animation classic. Rachel Zegler stars as the O.G. princess, with Gal Gadot playing the Evil Queen. Lots of people are mad at this movie for a variety of ridiculous reasons. If you decide to see it for yourself, let us know what you think. It's in theaters. Also opening this week, finally, is "Magazine Dreams." This is the film that was supposed to cement Jonathan Majors' status as a major talent of our time -- then he was arrested and convicted of assault and harassment. He gives an incredible performance in a film filled with craft, if you can separate the art from the artist, and we don't blame you if you can't. It's tough. In theaters. We also catch up with the indie baseball movie "Eephus," which is a delightfully shaggy hang. Carson Lund fills the screen with eccentric characters and a rich sense of place, inspired by his baseball-obsessed youth in Nashua, NH. We both loved this movie. Director Barry Levinson goes through the motions in trotting out mob tropes. It's also in theaters, but you can miss this one. It's a Pi Day miracle: We recorded these reviews in the same place at the same time for the first time in a long time. Five years, to be exact. And it was so nice to be together again at Alonso's apartment on this rainy day in LA. We begin with "The Electric State," an empty, ugly, $320 million action extravaganza from longtime MCU directors Anthony and Joe Russo. It's a retro-futuristic, post-apocalyptic story set in the '90s, after humans and robots have gone to war. The ridiculous cast includes Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Ke Huy Quan and Woody Harrelson as Mr. Peanut. Yes, you read that right. Streaming now on Netflix. We were also disappointed with "Opus," about a legendary pop star who invites a group of journalists to his remote retreat to listen to his first album in three decades. It's an A24 horror movie, and it feels awfully familiar. It also features an impressive cast including Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis and Amber Midthunder. This Friday is so jam-packed with new movies that we wanted to review a couple of them early for you here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with the action comedy "Novocaine," starring Jack Quaid as a mild-mannered bank manager who feels no pain. When robbers kidnap the woman he adores (Amber Midthunder), he finds his affliction is actually an asset. One of us liked this movie better than the other. But we both loved "Black Bag," starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as British spies who love each other but don't totally trust each other. This is the second film this year from director Steven Soderbergh and writer David Koepp, following "Presence" in January. It's sleek, sexy and stylish. This is a spoiler-free review. If you thought one Robert Pattinson was good, wait 'til you see two of them in "Mickey 17."  We couldn't wait to review the latest sci-fi/satire extravaganza from the great South Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho, his first film since the historic Oscar wins of his 2019 masterpiece, "Parasite." But while we both enjoyed Pattinson's dual performances, we're split on how effective "Mickey 17" is as a whole. Co-starring Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. In theaters now. Oscar Night was so much fun that we couldn't wait to wake up and talk about everything that happened. "Anora" was the big winner of the night with five Academy Awards, and Sean Baker made history for winning four of them for the same film: best picture, director, screenplay and editing. Plus Mikey Madison was (sort of) the surprise winner in the best actress category for her star-making turn in the title role. A quick, mixed bag, and it's coming at you on a Thursday for a change, in our latest episode of Breakfast All Day. We begin with a tribute to Gene Hackman, the legendary actor who was discovered dead in his Santa Fe, N.M., home this week. The two-time Oscar winner was 95 years old. His wife and one of his dogs had died, as well, and authorities are investigating. But we wanted to remember his long and varied career, and we'll honor Hackman further with our March Off the Menu poll, so keep an eye out for that. Also, we catch up with "Grand Theft Hamlet," a totally original documentary about a couple of actors who staged a production of "Hamlet" entirely within the video game Grand Theft Auto Online. It's hilarious but also surprisingly poignant. Streaming now on Mubi. We're posting a day early because we're taking part in the Feb. 28 Economic Blackout. This is a movement that's encouraging people to avoid spending money with big stores and companies on Friday. Arthouse Tuesday is also Oscar Tuesday this week, as we catch up with a couple of Academy Award nominees. First, we review "Flow," which is up for best animated feature and best international feature. This delicate, wordless film from Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis follows a cat, a dog and various other creatures as they team up to survive after a catastrophic flood. In theaters and available for rental. Plus, we discuss "September 5," a gripping drama that recounts the hostage crisis that rocked the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. It recreates how the ABC Sports team responded to this breaking news with no real blueprint for covering a live terrorist attack. It's been nominated for best original screenplay. Alonso's not feeling well, so his husband Dave White was lovely enough to share his insights. First, we discuss "Becoming Led Zeppelin," which traces the origins of one of the greatest bands in rock history. It's been playing for the past week in IMAX, and if you can see it that way, it's like being at a concert with that huge screen and incredible sound. Expanding to more theaters nationwide today. We also discuss the latest film from Questlove, "Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius)," about Sly Stone of Sly & the Family Stone. The film explores Stone's musical ingenuity as well as his struggles with substance abuse, and features interviews with artists who help put his greatness into perspective. Streaming on Hulu.
