On today's episode we have two inspiring patient stories. First is Janet's story. Janet had brain aneurysm on March 22, 2004 while walking her dog. She tells her story of recovery and her experience in the neuro ICU. Next, Chris shares the story of when he was performing in a church in London over years ago and caught Meningococcal meningitis, which led to a hospitalization for coma and a near death experience.

In this insightful discussion, Dr. David Y. Chung, an assistant professor of neurology at Harvard and neurocritical care physician, and Dr. Bradford B. Thompson, chief of neurocritical care at Brown University, dive into their research on weaning strategies for external ventricular drains in subarachnoid hemorrhage patients. They debate the transition from gradual to rapid weaning, revealing its potential to reduce ICU stays and shunt placements. The complexities of multi-center trial design and the challenges in evaluating patient outcomes while addressing delayed cerebral ischemia are also highlighted.

During this interview between Dr. Varina Boerwinkle and the mother of a patient, we hear the story of a young man who suffered a stroke, and how his medical team quickly navigated the situation and worked closely with this family to make critical decisions.

Kertisha was a patient with anti-NMDA encephalitis who woke up from coma after 7 months and is now living a completely normal life as a dental assistant. This interview with Kershita and her physician, Shraddha Mainali, talks briefly about her condition, her recovery process and her life as a coma survivor. Next is the story of Tars Peeters, who was diagnosed with as locked-in syndrome following a car accident with this friends. The story is shared by his mother, Nelleke Koeners.
