635: Skittles Scandal, Surviving Nuclear War, & Spotlight Effect

Sarah reveals why her true crime interest is waning despite her love of Law & Order. Susie wants a mosquito genocide. Some people believe Skittles are not fit for human consumption. Sarah is accidentally racist about Eddie Murphy. We hear tips on surviving a nuclear attack and it is surprisingly strange advice that we would not have thought of. Sarah describes the "spotlight effect" and the reasons we think everyone is looking at us. Susie is pissed about Kim Kardashian's plastic surgery claims. And we discuss why Sarah has been extra funny in our Challenge Zoom watch parties on Patreon. 634: Victoria's Secret, Male Trees, & Magical Thinking

Hear what it was like for Sarah to rewatch Exes II with her boyfriend, and why it gave her a whole new perspective of the show. Susie discusses the Victoria's Secret documentary and how the "fantasy" they were creating was really toxic and driven by, you guessed it, the patriarchy. We learn how the suburbs are riddled with male trees, and it is having a surprising effect on our health (and it ain't good). Susie almost got into a fight at Banjo Night, of all places, and she explains what happens when she hits a breaking point. We discuss Steve Jobs's habit of "magical thinking" and how it ultimately cost him his life. We debate whether climate activists gluing themselves to artwork is helpful (and Sarah just wants to know what kind of glue it is). Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/634-635Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

633: Backyard Burial, Gulliver's Hallucinations, & Tennis Scores

Hear why Sarah feels bad about her broccoli theft, but Susie changed her mind about Sarah pulling the stems off. Sarah teaches us why scoring in tennis is so weird, and for some reason Susie is mad about it. We learn whether it's legal to bury someone in your backyard, and hear why there are rules about it beyond just location. Susie tells Sarah she should become a psychic because of her "fan fiction" mental game. We learn about a very strange mental disorder that makes people see teeny tiny people doing crazy things. It's wild. 632: Girls Gone Wild, Dark Web, & Dead Tattoos

Sarah makes a very good point about parenting, and it might just seal the deal on whether she wants to have kids or not. We discuss the Britney Griner detention in Russia, and Susie is worked up about the fact that she is still there and that many female athletes have to work in Europe in the off-season just to make ends meet. Susie watched the Girls Gone Wild Exposed documentary, and it is truly disturbing. Girls Gone Wild was definitely not just a spring break romp, it is full-on porn and they didn't pay the talent, had them sign contracts under the influence, and some of them were underage. It's beyond. We discuss an interview of Michael Jackson that Susie sees in a whole new disturbing light. We discuss a new trend where people are saving the skin of their deceased loved ones to preserve their tattoos. Sarah reveals why she changed her mind about Amazon and it's hilarious. 631: Pain Tunnels, Celibacy, & Dick Hieroglyphics

Today we hear why Sarah loves climbing mountains when she is not on television only, and she describes how she gets through "pain tunnels" during physical exertion. We hear about a study that shows Tibetan monks might provide the answers on the genetics of celibacy. Susie reveals why she is pissed at Sarah, and let's just say it's definitely about t-rex arms. Sarah talks about an ancient inscription found where a woman gets revenge on a man by drawing a dick and calling him out. Sarah explains why there's confusion about anal sex, and changing the way we talk about it might show it's more popular than we realized. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/630-631Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

630: Sandwich Architecture, Medieval Times, & Sex Negative

Hear about a documentary Susie watched that made her wonder if she is ableist. The film also made Susie and Sarah have their third fight about the proper way to build a sandwich. We discuss certain common phrases that might be offensive, but we aren't sure. We learn about a unionization effort of Medieval Times's employees and Sarah thinks its the fault of divorced dads who shop at Kohl's. Sarah explains why she doesn't like "forced participation," and we realize that all those annoying ice-breakers leaders insist upon might actually be effective. Susie realizes she isn't as "sex positive" as she thought, and Sarah tries to explain why a sex doll might be a bridge to healing. For real. She said that. 629: Croakies, Reverse Deja Vu, & Tetris Trauma

Hear lots of bad news on today's show! But also laugh along with Susie who is apparently losing her mind. We somehow have a long conversation about Croakies, the sunglass strap that really made a fashion splash in the 80s and 90s. Sarah explains the opposite of deja vu, jamais vu, which is when you enter a space that is very familiar, but it feels brand new, and explains why we've all experienced it in one very realatable way. Susie talks about how playing Tetris and word games can reduce intrusive thoughts after a traumatic experience. We learn which chores make kids do better in school. Sarah describes what it's like to have ADHD, and Susie analyzes Sarah's alter ego, Tuesday's Sacrifice. Plus, we talk about pubic hair shapes, psychics, and the All-Star Challenge. 628: Men Are The Worst, Smile Influencer, & Love Curious

Hear Susie talk about how she's had it up to HERE with men. She says that it's hard to find out for sure that you're seen as not a fully formed person, and all the evidence points to men being the problem. Her thoughts were reinforced watching Leave No Trace about the sexual abuse of thousands of Boy Scouts. Her suspicions were again confirmed watching the Menudo documentary even though she thought it was going to be a light-hearted musical treat. We discuss the J Lo documentary chronicling her Superbowl halftime show. Sarah explains the secret to long-lasting love. Susie and Sarah plot ways to get free plastic surgery despite their better judgment. We learn about the history of smiling, and why one woman artist changed smiling forever in the 1700s. We learn whether emotions caused by music are the same throughout the world and we look at a map of music emotions. We learn a new theory on why T-rexes have those teeny tiny arms, and it's very disturbing. Sarah shames Susie for not remembering random dinosaur facts. Plus, we hear about "thought worms," which make up a good chunk of your daily inner monologue.
