How To Get A Job

How important is GPA when it comes to getting hired? I graduated college with a 2.9 GPA. This is something that I am not proud of, and in fact, if I could give myself some advice about GPA this is what I would tell myself knowing what I know today. You should look at your GPA like you look at your Credit Score! This is because companies look at it like this. 3.5-4.0 GPA = Perfect credit 3.0-3.4 GPA = Good credit 2.0- 2.9 GPA = Poor Credit The key here is to get to a good credit score. This will be enough to get your application approved. However, if you reach the threshold the incremental benefits of raising your GPA decimals are very minimum. At this point, I would suggest focusing your efforts on networking, internships, and student organizations. Your GPA has little to no effect on your future employment opportunities after your first job or your first 2 years after graduation. The only other thing that GPA becomes relevant again is if you are applying for grad school. So I would tell young Daniel to focus just a little bit more and make sure that I graduate with a 3.0 GPA, not a 2.9. Have you ever been ghosted? Well, you are not alone. Getting ghosted is by far one of the most frustrating things about the job search process. But did you know there are things you can do to minimize or eliminate ghosting all together? In this week’s episode of the podcast, I have a conversation with my mentee Ashley Ortiz Ashley has worked in recruiting for companies like Disney, Sea World, and Marriot. We have a conversation about the job of a recruiter. Why does ghosting happen And what can job seekers do to avoid it and increase their chances of getting hired So if you are tired of getting ghosted, then this is the episode for you!

You got a summer internship congratulations! But how do you turn it into a full time job? Here is thing that if you do will practically guarantee you get the offer!! #1. Understand how you are being measured. Have a clear understanding of what your Key Performance indicators (KPIs) are. #2 Have bi-weekly check up calls with your manager Make sure you and your manager are on the same page. Review your KPIs and make sure you are doing a great job #3 Network with as many people as possible Make it a goal to grab lunch or a zoom call with at least 2 new people a week. Keep a record of each call and make sure you keep the conversation going. #4 Be a leader among your peers You don’t need a title to be a leader. Volunteer to help organize event for the interns and show your leadership skills # 5 Ask for the full time job Don’t be afraid to communicate with your manger and HR that you are looking to build a career with the organization. Ask them what do you need to do in order to get the full time offer. At the end of the day it is in the companies best interest to give it to you! How will the job market be effected if we go into a recession? This is something that I have been thinking a lot about. So I invited a fellow career coach Adam Broda to the podcast to talk about it.
