080: Was Jesus Born on April 6th?

Section 20 verse 1 of the Doctrine and Covenants says ” The rise of the Church of Christ in these last days, being one thousand eight hundred and thirty years since the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the flesh, it being regularly organized and established agreeable to the laws of our country, by the will and commandments of God, in the fourth month, and on the sixth day of the month which is called April” This has throughout Mormonism’s history been interpreted as signifying the birth of Christ. We have several quotes by leaders including a recent comment by Elder Bednar from the April 2014 Conference. But is this the only way to see this issue and do other interpretations hold more weight? We examine this question and more in this week’s episode. https://byustudies.byu.edu/PDFViewer.aspx?title=8651&linkURL=49.4ChadwickDating-61f85baf-ef24-4584-ba44-1892097daede.pdf https://www.lds.org/general-conference/watch/2014/04?lang=eng&vid=3438350362001&cid=9 (at the 15 min mark) https://www.lds.org/ensign/1980/05/remarks-and-dedication-of-the-fayette-new-york-buildings http://en.fairmormon.org/Jesus_Christ/Date_of_birth http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700094707/What-was-the-real-date-of-Jesus-birth.html?pg=all http://gospelcougar.blogspot.com/2008/06/was-jesus-born-on-april-6.html The post 080: Was Jesus Born on April 6th? appeared first on Mormon Discussion by Bill Reel.

075: Patriarchal Blessing: My struggle in Church Dynamics

This episode is personal. I had been wondering for some time if this story should be shared or not but felt their are principles in my experience that might help each of us better handle the conflict that comes between those whose faith is complex and nuanced and those whose faith is more simplified. Both sides think the other is off base and yet perhaps if we are humble there is something to be learned. I would really love feedback on this episode and hope you might email me at reelmormon@gmail.com The post 075: Patriarchal Blessing: My struggle in Church Dynamics appeared first on Mormon Discussion by Bill Reel.

072: Garden of Eden: Literal of Figurative

https://mdpodcast.org We are in our classes taught the creation, the fall, God’s dealings with his first two mortal children Adam and Eve. Many LDS see these accounts as absolutely literal with little room for deviation. Sticking with the MormonDiscussion Mantra…. We tear it down and build it back up again.
